I would rather see hillary in the White House than McCain, for the reasons you give. But I’d consider changing my mind if Fred was McC’s VP candidate. It would be a gamble, certainly, but it could open up the possibility of renewing the conservative coalition down the line.

When I say that politics is the art of the possible, I think it’s important that a politician should know WHEN to compromise. For instance, Bush did the right thing not compromising on his SCOTUS appointments (except for the Miers fiasco) because that was absolutely vital.

On the other hand, although I think “No Child Left Behind” was a mistake, if he needed to do it to get re-elected, maybe it was a reasonable sacrifice. But medicare prescription was stupid.

To take another instance, Bush’s support for illegal amnesty was stupid, counterproductive, and abominable. It didn’t gain him any political points, yet it betrayed our country and undermined the conservative movement. And it probably lost a lot of hispanic votes for the future, pointlessly.

So, I’m willing to put up with a few things I don’t like if it gets the important things through, but I’m not willing to put up with stupid mistakes like that on major, major issues. McCain has that kind of stupidity. He loves to do the wrong thing on really major issues.

Hmmm.... I must say you sound convincing... it sounds good.. but there is a BUT somewhere that I can not find yet -LOL

Two things: Why do you say 'No Child Left Behind,' was a mistake?... It sounds very good to me in concept. I heard of problems with it as one would expect but why a mistake?.. We all know the stories of our H.S Graduates who writhe like me :), so something had to be done, or not?

Also, what do you think was the PRIMARY reason GW did not run - as he should have done it - to seal/secure the border after 9/11 when it was perceived the same people could cross the border and use somehing really nasty to harm us? And so we went to war just to do that, as GW said it, to protect us from these people?... Never could understand the contradition in those actions. Or is it just that he put ahead the interest of agro businesses which benefited from cheap labor? is it that simple?

Oh, and as to the Supreme Court... GW blew it, please don't remind me!:) .. It was literally a miracle that we were someone able to get Alito :)
