Sheesh, Fred. Why didn’t you just stay the hell off the political radar, enjoy your return to private life and keep your mouth shut?

There goes my respect for you down the toilet...

Sorry, I didn’t mean sit out the entire election, I just meant for President. I’ll still vote in other categories.

I supported Fred, I knew this coming after Romney dropped out.

I am sad that people are not mature enough to accept this. We can disagree on issues, but at the end of the day it’s about our country.

I like Fred, but we part ways with McCain.

If this is true, I am disappointed in Fred. He rolled over way too easily.

“Fred wants to be his VP.”

I doubt that Fred wants to be his VP, but John would be very wise to ask him. That would give him his best chance to try to unite the Republican Party.

I have nothing against Alan Keyes as a personm but he’s a bad candidate. He already ran against one of the Democrat front-runners, and we all know how that turned out. Having him lose on a national scale would benefit no one, except the political left.

Well...does he really have a choice here? It’s either McCain or Huckster.

Not that I’m thrilled...but if he had done this with Romney still in it would have been more disheartening.

Fred wants to be his VP. No surprise here.

I'd posit that McCain is more of the conservative than you or many on FR want to believe. Yes, I know what he's done, I have my flame retardant suit on, and I'm not worried about whatever anyone here or anywhere else has to say. He's the best thing we've got going against Hillary or Obama. I wish it could have been better, but we just couldn't have done better this year. (Okay, I'm crying in the back of my throat for Duncan Hunter, but do spare me any inspirational talk about that poser Fred Thompson.)

Long story short, we have to support McCain to prevent four years of Clinton or Obama. Those of you who don't want to, that's fine, it's a free country, don't vote, don't vote third party, but please, please, please don't inundate my FR account with messages. I'm not interested in arguing with that crap. McCain is going backwards from most conservative GOP candidiates. Usually, they wrap up the conservatives in the primaries, and go afther the independents in the general election. In this case, McCain wrapped up the independents in the primaries, and now has to court the conservatives in the general election.

Either way, I'm moving to South Africa in the next year or two. Where the government is hopelessly liberal and gun control, but goshdangit, it's Paradise on Earth, especially my beach house down near Port Shepstone (if you can stand all the crime, which is difficult).

This is a blog, for crissakes. Let’s wait for somethign official.

That being said, if it IS true, then the conservatives have been utterly condemned to the wildreness.

“But McCain has still burned too many bridges.”

Yup. But back to the Thompson thing. I contend he ran to test his popularity/ money raising ability. Bet he wanted to be VP all along. Can’t prove it. Just the way I feel.

No my point was that I am tired of people of FR say that everytime a conservative endorses McCain it is to get something in return.

"The last great Republican President we will ever see"

There I fixed it. IMO Reagan was the last true (Great as well) Republican President.

“...The last great Republican President we will ever see ...”

Well, I don’t know about that. We might get someone. Definitely not another Reagan, but maybe someone who remembers that it’s the individuals that make America great. Not the parties, not the government, but the individual. You and me and everyone else.
None of the candidates we had ever seemed to really understand it.

I could deal with Fred as VP. McCain is going to have to be very wise when picking someone for that position. (of course, we are assuming McCain will get the nomination)
