Rush: Don't Sit Out, Conservatives: Focus on the House and Senate

Thompson and McCain have been friends for years and that was never a secret.

A point I've made consistently throughout the process, and one which Thompson's supporters most definitely did not want to hear.

Inevitably, the chickens come home to roost.

I am worried that the next shoe to drop will be McCain's selection of Huckabee as veep

I don't think so.

Remember, the party leaders have a say in this - the candidate will be given the privilege of announcing "his" choice - but he will not make that choice arbitrarily -

The last person JFK wanted for VP was Johnson - they hated each other. But JFK was told Johnson was it.

It may be that the conventional wisdom now is that, since Romney got 4 million votes vs McC's 4.7, that there is support out there for Romney - and with "economics" and the WOT being the two top issues, McC and Romney would be a good mix.

Then there's the real possibility that, given McC's age and health, he very likely won't make it through 8 years - maybe a lot less. Having someone in the wings that has already been 'vetted' with the voters, who is personable and doesn't have one foot in the grave - could go a long way towards keeping the WH for some time to come.

Time to circle the wagons, folks -

“Does that mean Fred is another of the growing list of faux-conservative liberals who support McCain?”

Ah come on now. I’ve made it all the way to post# 178 and nobody’s called him a RINO yet. You’re so close... page the system admin and have him change faux-conservative-liberals to RINO. That way I don’t have to read this entire thread. :-)

___________________________________________________________

IMHO, these guys are like war buddies who are friends. My best friend is a bleeding heart liberal. We have some knock out, drag out debates. Just because he is still my friend afterwards doesn’t make me a liberal. Although I would not endorse my buddy for POTUS.

Fred will be McCain’s VP choice. Huck looks like a fool for playing along and letting McCain use him.

Huckster has a tremendous God given gift of gab...he can make a fortune in the private sector peddling Home Gyms with Chuck Norris on infomercials at 2 am. I wish him luck. Nice guy. I just don’t want him and his authoritarian streak anywhere near the levers of power.

I heard Dick Morris tonight on H/C scold Hanitty for not getting behind McCain, he said that Rush, Hanitty, Laura Ingram etc...were all wrong and he thought McCain should move farther to the left after he is the nominee, because McCain could win the election if he could steal some votes from Hillary or Obama. It was absolutely disgusting to listen to man. It looks like the Republican Party has officially left Conservatives for good this time. I wouldn’t p%$$ on John McCain if he was on fire!

Dammit! that’s how I feel. I do understand those that support McCain because I do respect him in at least area and it’s an important area to me. And I understand those who can’t support him, and I’m one that is having a tough time voting for him come November.

Exactly! I don’t understand the namecalling and viciousness I’ve seen here. Yeah, I’m new but never expected this from a site like this. Naive maybe but whatever.

I don’t think you’re overthinking, just commenting on the vicious posts that have been posted. And there have been some doozies (I sound like I’m 80, lol).

It’s the one negative I’ve found here so it’s not so bad. Just confuses me. I’m far from a McCain supporter and personally I wish he’d just go away. But if he’s the nom, and it looks like he is, for the repub party, I have a lot of thinking to do.

This has been my first Primary here on Free Republic, and I have been shocked at the hatred I have seen posted here. It has been very disappointing, and I think it is going to take some time for people to recover from this.

Conservatives don't have a candidate, and Third Party is the only solution I see at this time.

“It may be that the conventional wisdom now is that, since Romney got 4 million votes vs McC’s 4.7, that there is support out there for Romney”

Do you believe that this is why Romney didn’t just quit, but suspended his campaign and thereby holding onto his delegates? Perhaps for some sort of leverage at convention?
I haven’t seen anyone tackle the subject of Romney holding his delegates (and not praising McCain at CPAC) and I’m curious as to what you think.

Guess Romney also wasn’t the man we thought he was. Or any other Conservative who will now back McCain.

Not directing this towards anyone in particular. But this campaign season sure has helped highlight the small thinkers on this forum

and it's scary

Well, I don’t want to give the impression that it’s ALL vicious and name-calling. There’s alot of thoughtful questions and points of view here that make it worthwhile. At the very least, I can see how other people (especially those that don’t happen to agree with me) think.

I guess with this issue feelings run deep.

There’s TEN months yet to go before
November. Much time, MANY things
will yet transpire. I’m holding onto
faith .. through my disappointment ..
knowing Someone else is in charge.

I am worried that the next shoe to drop will be McCain's selection of Huckabee as veep.

On the radio today I heard McCain said he didn't have to choose a Veep for any special region, or something to that effect.

Not sure what that meant but I thought maybe that was a subtle hint to Huck - I don't need you for the South?

I never quite figured out Romney. He needed more time to get his conservative “bona fides” if that was possible, but he didn’t have enough time to do it. And it would take a few years for that to happen, I think.

McCain’s win is disappointing. Fred’s endorsement for McCain at this point isn’t disappointing at all. It’s encouraging. I’m not content to surrender to the libs this November.

DITTO THAT

Just out of curiousity, did you think I was a McCain supporter? I’m asking because I know I never posted anything like that even though I appreciate his military service. And coming from a family of military, past and present, they can’t stand him. He’s like my 5th choice or really a never choice, if even that, and I don’t know if I can vote for him in November. But I know I can’t support Hillary or Obama as CIC. He won’t be any worse as president than hillary would be but she’d be horrible in terms of the military and he’s passable in that respect.

This is the statement:

“This is no longer about past preferences or differences. It is about what is best for our country and for me that means that Republican should close ranks behind John McCain,” Thompson said in a statement reported by the Associated Press.”

This is not an endorsement really....it is basically what Romney said. It is time to unite the party so we can beat the Dems. He isn’t saying yay McCain at all here.
