Fred Thompson, the one-time Republican presidential candidate, endorsed Sen. John McCain Friday, calling on the party to "close ranks" behind the presumed nominee

Personally, I think they feel ashamed because they are planning to sell out, or have already. They don’t want to be the only ones so instead of reflecting their shame onto themselves, where it belongs, they are projecting it upon us.
Rush thought ...like all the other pundits, that Romney would get the nomination. It was a mistake....or if you want me to be more diplomatic a calculation error.
And who gave us the most liberal of all R’s along w/his buffer dog, Huck?
What do you expect him to do...bash our nominee? McCain won fair and square. I didn't support him, but there it is. It is done. The time to "vet" McCain is long past. As Fred said it is time to rally behind him to win in November. Obama and Hillary represent not only what is wrong in policy but morally corrupt and unacceptable. We must do everything possible put John McCain in the white House. I am not interested in what self-promoters like Coulter or Limbaugh say about it. Even though he was my last choice, I will support and vote for McCain.
No, but the lie certainly is convenient for you, isn't it?
Show me a quote. You can't do it.
This is profoundly upsetting to me, because we should have a system where sometimes the outsider can win. Our founders definitely did not want an oligarchy. But they did not envision 50 states and a wacky "primary season."
I suppose it would take a constitutional amendment to make all federal primaries on the same day, so that would never happen. What else would help?
McCain-Feingold
Kennedy-McCain
Lieberman-McCain
Anyone got any questions?
I guess he wishes to have those freeloader votes, i. e., those that do not go to democrats.
No, it would need the Party's to reform themselves. Each state can simply pass a law setting when and how their Primary elections are conducted. Guess who runs State Govt? Party politicans who hope to more up to National office some day. So you culd do it without a Consitutional Amendment but it would require the States, and The Party Leadership, to cooperate. However that requires the Party bosses to give up their ability to infuence the process. Especting enlighted leadership for Politicans is a bit much to ask. Average people, especially Freepers, need to get massively involved in politics. Espeically if they can win office, they can gain access tot he levers of party leadership. Then they can make some of the changes we talk about here happen. Sitting around just talking accomplishes little. We have to actually take are party back starting at the grass roots.
Nice to see you find the implosion of our party sweet.

A tree that won’t bend will snap Fredhead’s could not bend so it snaps in two!
Many of us suspected in the end Fred would endorse his friend McCain.
The media given endless free coverage to McCain and the nobody Huckabee to undermind those who were perceived as a threat to the media and fickle public was all over the place.
Fred’s low key approach trip the alarm something was not discernable for a man running for president.
It really was stretching the imagination why someone would not ride the momentum wave in the beginning of his entrance into the race that was running for president?
In the end it was fate because of all the squabbling going on among the children that we all ended up with the bitter pill lesser of two evils.
Unless there is an intervention and as much as we don’t like it hoping to receive a few crumbs is better than the alterative that the opposition has in store for us which could devastate this country for decades!
I was unclear.
My sarcasm was intended only for the phrase “Mission accomplished” with regard to McCain securing the nomination.
Like “McCain wins. YAY! /hvy sarc “
Supporting taxpayer funded embryonic cell research is NOT pro-life.
Yours is a thoughtful post I’d like to reply to, but I’m short on time right.
We caucas in a few hours and I have other things to tend to first...
bump for later
Huckabee did not have the ability to raise money, still doesn't and doesn't deserve to be in the race even now.
I can’t tell you how disappointed I am that McCain is going to get the republican nomination. His principles are way out of touch with true conservative ideals. His stance on immigration alone borders on being criminal.
I liken those that blindly support the republican party to the frog that will not get out of the slowly simmering pan of water. In the end the frog dies and the republican backers lose any semblance of what their party was meant to stand for.
I switched to being an independent when the republican party left me a few years ago. I was actually going to vote for Romney if he won the republican nomination. There is no way that myself or a number of people I know are going to vote for McCain.
McCain reaches out to conservatives with his idiotic claim that we would be better off with him rather than Hillary or Barak. What that means is that on the top six issues Hillary is wrong on all six while McCain is “only” wrong on five.
What it tells you that most folks in the military do not relish having to salute a democrat in the White House that would sell out our troops in harms way.
