Fred Thompson, the one-time Republican presidential candidate, endorsed Sen. John McCain Friday, calling on the party to "close ranks" behind the presumed nominee

Yeah.
Remember that when Mitt endorses McCain.
It will happen.
Excellent wording, I agree. We state our opinions, get hammered for them, then sit back and watch them come true. :)
So many times I've wanted to post......
Wow, your post brought back memories. I was also driving in my car listening to that radio interview. My jaw dropped when I heard McCain suddenly “flip-out” and lash out with the most vile and hateful attacks on Ronald Reagan’s son. I could not believe it. I was actually waiting for both of them to start laughing. And we would discover it was all staged. Like it was supposed to be some “way-over-top” way of making light of McCain’s alleged white-hot, explosive temper.
However, there was no laughter. McCain stormed out of the studio. The last thing I remember Michael Reagan saying was: “’Reagan Republican,’ not in a million years.”
You were right it was over nothing. Michael Reagan had asked McCain what role his friend, Warren Rudman, would play in a McCain administration. Michael was concerned because he noted that Warren Rudman had done a terrible job in vetting David Souter for the Supreme Court. Warren Rudman had assured everyone that Souter was a strict constructionist.
It was at that moment that McCain unleashed his rage on Reagan. It really was a clarifying moment for me. Up until that point McCain had been charming and seemingly in full control. The shock of realizing it was all an act and that he had been secretly fuming and seething with hatred and ready to explode was alarming — to say the least.
I now knew all the whispered stories about his uncontrollable rage and anger were true. I could never vote for that man. How could we ever think about putting nuclear weapons and the safety of our country in that man’s hands!
oh, please.........FRed just took one for the party. the sHuckster will endorse him too down the road. it’s over, it’s reality, we will ALL stand behind mccain in the fall elections.
This guy Thompson was a BIG reason why McCain won the nomination. His flirty little dance distracted many conservatives for months, delaying our ability to identify Romney as the genuine article. Now it’s too late.
It blows my mind that some FReepers hold out hope McCain will put Thompson on his ticket. For what possible reason?
No more flirts—especially Hollywood types.
I believe we can turn a 1,000,000 cadle light beam on McCain and fight him and still prevent some form of new McCain-Mennedy amnesty bill that will come out.
But with Hillary or Obama and the potential for a veto proof majority they will amass in the House and the Senate...there will be no way to fight and win in those areas we can retain.
I would be willing to let that pass if the areas were things we could fix in the next election cycle. But it will take 30 years to fix the damage that a Hillary or Obama will do to the SCOTUS, precisely at a time when we have the chance to finally get a majority on it. I just cannot let the work of so ,amy others and the lives of millions of the unborn pass like that. We also may lose millions of American because of the cut and run policy of the democrats in the war, and I cannot let the lives of those who have died in this war to prevent that pass.
For those reasons, I may (and I say may because my mind is not entirely made up, but is leaning that way) vote against Hillary or Obama by voting for McCain, as disgusting and agonizing as the prospect is.
Something seems fishy to me.
Most people have the ability to be more than a single issue voter... I have no idea how it came to be that McCain was able to become the most viable out of all the bunch that started but he did. I never had much use for McCain from the start as I go back to the 2000 campaign where we fought him tooth and toenail and thank God for SC they shut him down.
For some reason[s] the public just couldn’t get behind anyone of the other candidates. Some made splashes of grandeur when they came on the scene but their light dimmed rather quickly. Others never got out of the blocks to make a splash. Huckabee is a regional candidate that is finished.
We now or will have McCain as the candidate like it or not. Our chore now is to hold his feet to the fire as much as possible to to extract as many conservative committments as we can from him. In addition we need to spend a vast amount of energy of getting good Representatives/Senators elected to act as buffers and road blocks to his off the wall ideas.
My objective now is to defeat the Hillar/Obama candidacy. And it won’t be done by voting for either of them as some of the so called conservatives on this site are saying they may or will do. I have to much self respect to do that.
I did not hold my nose nor did I choose between the lesser of 2 evils in 1992,1996, 2000 or 2004.
And just who do you think Romney will endorse?
And then get to snicker as we watch for the ever present failing of apologists who not only refuse to admit the "prophectic" words were spot on but infer an honorable intent that never existed in the first place. Only on rare occasion does it seem the scales are ever removed from others' eyes. Deluding themselves into thinking they have insight, they are still but sheep. fofl. Schadenfreude......spot on.
I'll work on state level conservatives. Hey we got Jindal. The presidential race is a wash-out for us.
Leni
Watching some get their comeuppance is a wonderful thing. lol
“I honestly think this election is make or break for the US. I dont know if you believe in the scriptures or not but if you do read Revelations. “
I do and I believe in them. Actually, that is the reason I wont choose between the lesser of 2 evils. However, America’s “breaking” started a long time ago. If you’re interested in reading more about it try Key of David. com. They have excellent “books” on how all countries play out in the end of time. You can also play his weekly tv programs.
I believe it’s called “America and Great Britian”. I like the books because it uses nothing but the Bible, no made up stuff. And they’re all free!
Guess so. Total nightmare, isn’t it?
no one else left to endorse. they all dropped out. Huckleberry is not a viable candidate, we are screwed.
Oh yes! Been hitting my Bible a tad more lately, lol.
I'm not prepared to say that, but it begs the question why he would jump into the race when it was way too late, pull out, then endorse someone to his left who has nothing but contempt for the conservative wing of the GOP...
