Republican John McCain asked disgruntled conservatives to support his presidential bid on Thursday, shortly after Mitt Romney ended his struggling campaign and made McCain the all-but-certain nominee.
McCain assured a conference of conservative activists he was one of them, citing his commitment to win in Iraq, halt Iran's nuclear ambitions and rein in the federal government while drawing sharp contrasts with potential Democratic opponents Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama.
McCain's speech, which drew boos on the topic of illegal immigration, followed by a few hours Romney's surprise announcement at the conference that he was ending his run to allow Republicans to focus on the November election.
"I feel I have to now stand aside, for our party and for our country," the former Massachusetts governor told the shocked crowd, some of whom gasped and shouted "No, no!" in response.

What's the recommended solution to the wife?
I believe it is: Leave the marriage.

Bradley Smith says that the freewheeling days of political blogging and online punditry are over.
In just a few months, he warns, bloggers and news organizations could risk the wrath of the federal government if they improperly link to a campaign’s Web site. Even forwarding a political candidate’s press release to a mailing list, depending on the details, could be punished by fines.
Smith should know. He’s one of the six commissioners at the Federal Election Commission, which is beginning the perilous process of extending a controversial 2002 campaign finance law to the Internet.
In 2002, the FEC exempted the Internet by a 4-2 vote, but U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly last fall overturned that decision. “The commission’s exclusion of Internet communications from the coordinated communications regulation severely undermines” the campaign finance law’s purposes, Kollar-Kotelly wrote.
Smith and the other two Republican commissioners wanted to appeal the Internet-related sections. But because they couldn’t get the three Democrats to go along with them, what Smith describes as a “bizarre” regulatory process now is under way.
CNET News.com spoke with Smith about the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002, better known as the McCain-Feingold law, and its forthcoming extrusion onto the Internet.

It’s a matter of picking the least likely to cause harm.
McCain may be for embryonic stem cell research, but technology has overcome his support. Adult cells are being worked on and we don’t hear much about ESC research.
However, voting Obama or Hillary guarantees millions more babies will die when they pick the judges.
I am required to do this, I will hate it but I will.
Two points. Different. One McCain would need to pick somebody that picks up at least a few states. I’m sure your two do not help.
Second, for me to vote for McCain I really doubt that ANY VP would matter. I’m into thinking we could take one in the shorts in the short term in order to get long term gain. The party needs a message. I’m not so sure that HC will pull out of Iraq or even shut down Gitmo and stop waterboarding.
I really loath McCain.

Look at the Rats, they're still duking it out and by the time they finally choose someone it will be too late. Gotta hand it to the GOP, they saw a good chance to take the bull by the horns and they did it.
Granted, I don't like McCain but if he chooses a good VEEP then it'll make the ticket better to digest. Anyone know if Thompson would be interested?

People are just venting, and I can’t say that I blame them. I pretty much feel the same way. We can’t abandon our troops to the Democrats though, and some are quicker to realize this than others. Be patient, and give them time. They’ll come around...
It’ll be a cold day in hell.
