BREAKING: Romney to endorse McCain tonight?
politicker md ^ | 2-7-08 | Editor

The Dewey Loman American Legion Post 109 is the place to be tonight for Maryland Republicans.

That’s where presidential candidate Sen. John McCain and ex-presidential candidate Mitt Romney are both scheduled to speak this evening in Halethorpe Maryland.

Romney was previously scheduled to attend the event, while McCain announced his surprise appearance this morning.

And just minutes ago, McCain’s campaign put out word that the Arizona senator would be picking up “a major endorsement” at this evening’s Baltimore County Republican Lincoln Day Dinner.

Minutes later, former Massachusetts Gov. Romney announced he would be ending his bid for the White House.

One source with knowledge of tonight’s event tells PolitickerMD.com that former Gov. Bob Ehrlich will not be the one introducing McCain before the presidential candidate delivers brief remarks; however, Ehrlich aides say he will be announcing his endorsement this evening.

But does an Ehrlich endorsement qualify for a national teaser endorsement at this stage of McCain's campaign? We think not.

There are implications that Romney, who has been locked in a bitter fight with McCain, would make the quick endorsement with the hope of unifying their party.

According to an advance text of his speech to the 2008 CPAC conference obtained by Time’s Mark Halperin, Romney said, “I disagree with Senator McCain on a number of issues, as you know.”

“But I agree with him on doing whatever it takes to be successful in Iraq, on finding and executing Osama bin Laden, and on eliminating Al Qaeda and terror. If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or Obama would win.”

Clinton’s are the worst possible scenario in my opinion. A crossover vote for Obama is that CHANCE!

Politically, they're interchangeable.

Rush is an over the hill talking head, sporting a little blond bimbo nearly half his age, and having an affinity for $1500.00 bottles of wine, and Cuban cigars. He doesn't live nor think in our realm.

I turned him and Sean Hannity off back when Sean couldn't stop whining, "Anybody but Hillary", and was buddying up that cross dressing freak...uh...what was his name?!....Oh yeah...Guiliani! :-)

All through this contest Romney has been the class act. Giuliani and Thompson too.

Well done.

Perhaps. History teaches us that it ain’t over till it’s over. I’m not sorry Mitt is out. Neither do I choose to celebrate when others are disappointed. No reason to smack him when he’s down unless he continues to toss cheap shots at Huckabee.

Exactly. I opined that my opinion of Romney would fall if he did not step down quickly.

And he did. Nice touch to a long campaign.

"Do NOT endorse the one who despises you."

You may have a point about McCain, but as a generalization, would personally support a racist (of any 'race') or a Muslim on topics were there is agreement, such as if a racist Muslim group has a pro-life viewpoint, would support them in that one area, while taking a reproachful attitude toward them in others.

Sometimes, making deals with enemies is necessary to further your goals. You use them--and they use you. Allies are not the same as friends; they're marriages of convenience, to be annulled after the objective is reached.

What a crazy attitude.

a). Clinton is more set to win the Democratic nomination, not Obama.
b). Although Obama has said some pretty stupidly naive things about confronting islamofascism, he'll probably be about the same as Clinton if he gets into office. That's called pandering to your supporters.* And he isn't a Muslim.

*Romney did that in Michigan, deluding voters into believing he would restore the automotive industry to Detroit's former glory. Giuliani almost went all out pandering to the Floridans. Some argue that Huckabee is pandering to evangelicals.

And he took a swipe at France, to boot :
"[Romney is] convinced that unless America changes course, [Americans] will become the France of the 21st Century - still a great nation, but no longer the leader of the world, no longer the superpower," he said."

The media have been on a power trip since the Spanish-American War.

That is your priviledge, but the fact remains judges appointed during the next term (or two terms) will be with us for many many years. I do not know of anything that will have more long lasting effects.

I disagree, I do believe McCain will appoint conservative judges, and what conservative judge did he prevent?

Look, while the primary is still in play, take a look at Alan Keyes. A write-in may be your choice.

But in the general, I will vote AGAINST McCain.

See? It’s all one big happy circle jerk.

And we're the jerks!!! This is NOT America anymore. We were spoon fed this idiot by the MEDIA!

I agree except I would say we are spoon fed by the RNC and the DNC, (well-oiled by media, big business money etc) two entities that run America, each fighting for the most power ($$$) over each other.

Well heck, now that I think about it, you're right. Politician one day, talking head the next, or vice versa.

Clinton was impeached and disbarred.

McCain got nothing. And you know the MSM— they love to attack anything and everything with an (R) by its name, regardless of who. Nothing.

Your “Keating 5” is a “Steaming Dud.”

Like most Americans, I have always supported the families of MIA and POWs in their efforts to get answers. Not John McCain. He has created legislation and run all the interference he could possibly muster to prevent critical POW and MIA documents from the public domain.

I never did understand that.

I'm sure Alan Cranston (D-CA); Dennis DeConcini (D-AZ); John Glenn (D-OH); John McCain (R-AZ); and Donald W. Riegle, Jr. (D-MI), agree with you. Anyone else who was around at the time knows that what they did, and the cover up, was "steaming" alright, it was a steaming pile of crap, and the stench still lingers. You, and the MSM, didn't care about it because 4 of the 5 were Democrats.

You said it exactly. Most of those now whining including the talk-show hosts are the one’s who supported their favorite RINO over the real conservatives. Vote your hormones, vote your faith, vote your favorite issue but for heaven’s sake don’t vote for anyone who might put the best interests of the country and the constitution before their personal goals and self-interest. Sadly, the masses of asses WILL “sell their votes for a pint of ale”.
