He was not a dud at all. He was beaten by moderates and liberals in open primaries and by a split of the conservative vote in other spots. This chart indicates Mitt was competive throughout the entire country, as is McCain. It was the 5 or 6 conservatives in the race who never had a chance of winning who split the conservative vote and handed us McCain.

Mitt who? Hey, now he’ll have plenty of time to read those golden plates.

>>I imagine Romney realizes that with McCain and Huckabee playing footsie (i.e. WV tactics) he doesn’t have a chance. He’s splitting conservatives votes with Huck and in the upcoming states, many of the primaries are open, so that means McCain benefits, so what’s the point of continuing if there’s no way to win.<<

I have not studied that in depth but its not clear that they cooperated so much as McCain switched his people to Huckabee to stop Romney.

Cut your losses... rule #1. He didn’t make all that money being stupid. Let’s just hope McCain picks a solid VP...

“Mitt was/is a RINO, who tried to pull the wool over our eyes, spent millions on trying to convince us that he now has seen the light, and become a real conservative.”

And just what conservative left in the race are you going for? Will it be John, open the borders to illegal immigrants, even the conservatives in my own state won’t vote for me, McCain or will it be the other Dope from Hope? Namely Bubba Clinton light.

Obama scares me. We know what we are getting with the Hildebeast. We don’t know anything about him except he looks and talks smooth.

Hmmm. Looks like Rush is 2 for 2. He endorses a candidate at the 11th hour, a few days later, their campaign is over.

Maybe time to start calling him "Kiss of Death" Limbaugh.

Now you’ve got the right man.

I find it amazing that you think McCain is the right man. That's absurd.

It would be a shame if the occupant of the White House causes you to curtail your writing and business activities. Usually there are ways to improve your tax situation, if not totally eliminate problems. I got some consulting cheap that helped me with my situation. Good luck.

“if Huckabee really cared about conservative values, he’d see that stopping McCain was the most important thing.”

Maybe Huckabee was suspicious of all of Romney’s recent “conversions.” Many of us were.

Dr. Dobson said: But what a sad and melancholy decision this is for me and many other conservatives. Should Sen. McCain capture the nomination as many assume, I believe this general election will offer the worst choices for president in my lifetime.

TOO LITTLE TOO LATE DOBSON - YOU HAD A CONSERVATIVE IN THE RACE AND JUST BECAUSE HE DIDNT SMARM HIS WAY INTO YOUR GOOD GRACES, YOU SNUBBED HIM AND CRIPPLED THE REST OF US. THANK YOU VERY MUCH...NOT!

If he is for real, it will show in four to eight years.

I'm glad you two are willing to give Mitt a chance for a future run. There are many here who will NEVER believe his conversion is authentic. I think the man is honest but he has too many things working against him this time around. I hope the country is still recognizable in 4 years given all the poor choices we've got to pick from now.

Well if Freepers don’t vote for McCain in November you will get Hillary in office and you will be responsible of the defeat in Iraq, a new rise of islamo-terrorism and a quick decline of the US power.

LOL!! Who died and made you judge and executioner?

Say hello to my new Commander-in-Chief, President Hillary R. Clinton

Yup - or President Obama.

Welcome to the outside looking in, which is where we'll be for the next 4-8 years.

A big, fat THANK-YOU and an extended digit to the brain-dead voters and the GOP.

Personally, I still blame all the so-called “conservatives who supported candidates other than Fred (and Duncan). We had a chance to unite behind a solid conservative who was good in every area. Instead, we had yahoos who jerked around and supported Mitt from the get-go, or supported Huck, or supported Rudy, etc. etc. etc. Really, the GOP has nobody to blame but itself for getting Ritalin John as its candidate. It’s not the media’s fault, it’s not the Dimocrats and Independent who voted in our primaries’ fault, it’s not Fox News’ fault - it’s the fault of GOP voters themselves, including a lot of FReepers.
