Despite what the pundits, talking heads, and self-annoited experts say about the Republican race, it is more muddled and more up in the air than at any time since Iowa.
Why?
Because 60 percent of the Republican Party is against John McCain.
And the more a dour Tim Russert or an arrogant Chris Mathews says that, the Republican race is, for all intents and purposes, over, or this one, it is very hard to see how John McCain can be stopped, the more agitated conservatives get.
That translates to we lefty pundits who dominate the TV airwaves want McCain so we will just proclaim him the inevitable nominee.
But conservative GOP voters are rebelling against McCain; yes, he gets moderate Republicans and independents who come into the GOP primaries. But the base conservatives are voting against McCain.
So I ask you this question: How can the Republican Party, with a huge base of conservatives, nominate a candidate who hates them and who they despise?
This is the crux of the dilemma that is ripping the GOP apart now. Ann Coulters "Hannity & Colmes" diatribe was more than amusing. It raised this question: Who do conservatives hate more, John McCain or Hillary Clinton?
The question, more than any answer, is instructive: The fact that we are even talking about this shows how divided we Republicans are and how unaccepting of John McCain we will be.
We feel like he is being jammed down our throat by the left, and by the same inside-the-beltway GOP establishment that has been, frankly, wrong on just about everything from amnesty to Dubai Ports World.
The two candidates opposing McCain are both having difficulty cobbling together enough support on their own to defeat McCain; they are splitting the conservative vote and enabling a moderate-to-liberal win.
And Huckabee is clearly in the tank for McCain. Yesterdays rigged convention in West Virginia was designed to deny Mitt Romney a Romney Wins West Virginia headline running all day long on cable TV. While within the rules, it was a petty, ugly example of the "real McCain" at work.
As the so-called GOP front-runner he should be above that kind of thing. But it tells us he is still more afraid of Romney than he is of Huckabee. Therefore, conservatives are increasingly going to rally to Romney from here on out.
And what Romney now needs to do is simple: pick an upcoming state a crucial one and make it a mano-a-mano race, Romney vs. McCain, and win it!
It is time Romney beats Mccain one-on-one because if he cannot, then McCain will win the nomination by default.
But if Romney draws the line in the sand and beats McCain, then we have a new race on our hands. The conservatives will rally to Romney and McCain could still be stopped.
So, Mitt, get going and fast.
Your task is a difficult one: take on not just McCain but the entire D.C. establishment.
Let it all out . . . get angry; show some passion. Embrace the talk-radio hosts, as they represent the GOP base.
Take on McCain and squash him, and soon, maybe in Ohio.
Make the economy the issue.
Do us all a favor.
“DELUSIONAL”
Is a good name for people still touting Huckabee.
Huckabee has no chance in two or three man race because he is lying, flip-flopping Arkansas liberal.
Huckster is the least ethical has the MOST liberal record in the race and is just as untrustworthy as McCain.
Stop drinking the Kool-Aid. Stop supporting Huckabee.
Marginally.
But at least he didn’t co-sponsor a massive amnesty bill with Ted Kennedy, one which he still thinks is a good idea ‘after’ the border is secured.
Your “source” is a stump speech ??? Not even a vote in the Senate, but something he can say and back away from due to some “detail” in any particular piece of legislation that actually comes up for a vote ?
Obama is a Communist, pure and simple.
Those speeches are laden with kool-aid for us disgruntle GOPers. He was not just named the #1 MOST liberal senator for nothing.

I know that
Obama also is now 2A also...
but without the hokey phoney new membership in NRA, the psuedo gun ownership, and the long history of hunting which started last week
Obama knows how to make “changes” in his political agenda in a way to make them believeable
He is accomplished and smooth in his slow blending and morphing
He didnt just start last week..
RINO Romney over does and people notice the insincerity
Obama’s move to the center is more unnoticable and believeable
Obama has had hard knocks Romney hasnt had and knows how to land on his feet..
Romney is too protected and soft and is not use to confrontation
Romney never means what he says and will tell the crowd whatever it wants to hear. Worthless promises. Back when I was up there in MA for his ‘94 Senate race, I used to think it was cute when he’d lie his ass off to Democrat crowds. I stopped thinking it was cute when he lied his ass off to our party.
Me: Youre a Big Government evangelical.
You: “What makes you think so?, because I don’t like killing babies, or paying for it, or homosexual couples adopting, or boyscout troop leaders?”
Yeah that pretty much seals it. All evangelical issues, which I agree with. But the part you leave out is how that is all you vote on...and if somebody is a big spender and taxer like HuckaB...then that is ok.
...the very definition of “Big Government Evangelical”
what was he supposed to do? not build roads? There is a big difference between universal Romney care vs building roads and fixing schools. What I am really against is not spending per se but rather more entitlements that hook the middle class on government dependency and future debt.
In fact I think we should have more space missions and invest more in science (not research for corporations!!), DARPA and perhaps a new advanced broadband internet infrastructure.
I do have to say that I sure wish Huckabee had McCain’s record on spending and entitlement control. Here’s a transcript when McCain was awarded the Economic patriot Award from the Concord Coalition:

Oh, please. Plus Dubai Ports was a phoney issue. Are all these same people worried that Emirates Air has had an air cargo facility at JFK International for 30 years? No.
I voted for Romney and dislike McCain (partly because he dislikes me), but I have my nose pincers on and I'll pull the lever for him and get to work the day after the election to throw him out in 4 years.
Nothing this year is cute.
Romney is still the best of the sorry bunch that is left.
That's easy.
It's not huge. FDT+Hunter+Tancredo = 15%, if that.
Huckabee is not a conservative. Romney is pretending. McCain is a liberal.
The votes don't lie. The "huge" conservative base isn't so huge.
On a stage debating the old hag Hillary or the young, vibrant Obama - he would carry himself very well.
Point, Romney is confident, well informed and can articulate it, he is ready to debate either Democrat with Russert, Matthews, Blitzer, Oberman.
I don't believe I was implying that the nation would be in jeopardy, or even the party.
However, the conservative agenda will not only be on hold, but in retreat. We won't replace the Supreme Court retirees with conservatives. We'll pass some sort of Al Gore energy tax to kill the economy, and that's even if McCain wins.
So yeah, short term, at least, we're toast.
“what was he supposed to do? not build roads?”
Romney built roads, many more than in Arkansas, as well as balancing the budget to a surplus...all without raising personal or corporate income taxes.
” There is a big difference between universal Romney care vs building roads and fixing schools.”
Romney’s healthcareplan was endorsed by the Heritage Foundation - and did not harm the bottom line of the government budget, again a surplus. Romney has been in business so he knows how to get things done...and despite delusions of the BGE’s, Romney has many more Delegates than HuckaB.
Not even close. Since so many MDS types on FR are here to claim they’d vote for Hillabama over McCain, I’m here to proudly say I’d cast one that way, too, if that sleazy liberal lying fraud Joe Isuzu Romney finds his way anywhere onto the ballot. No Democrat could damage the Republican party as badly as he could, did, and will.
McCain isn't pulling out of Iraq, and he hasn't promised universal healthcare.
So he's slightly better than awful.
Brilliant, did you think that up all by your self?
Snake charmers!
Before the Supreme Court went crazy on God and the social issues, it didn’t matter much what Washington was up to. When big government started sticking their noses into church business everyone went to war.
Christie Todd Whitman and the Republican Leadership (RLC) have won.
something he can say and back away from due to some detail in any particular piece of legislation that actually comes up for a vote

Exactly like RINO Romney could also do...
You have no proof that RINO “Promise anything to get elected” Romney would keep his campaign promises
