A pledge to never vote for McCain (Vanity)
February 5, 2008 | Tree of Liberty

Posted on 02/05/2008 10:11:11 PM PST by Tree of Liberty

If the unfortunate possibility of a McCain nomination comes to pass, I will not work for his election to the presidency, nor will I defend him in ad hoc conversations. He is wholly unworthy for that high office, and it is intolerable for my conscience to abide supporting him.

I will face two options once in the voting booth: 1) cast my ballot for a third party candidate, or 2) simply not vote in the presidential election.

I am curious who among you share my sentiments.

Then we’d better get started. The most pressing question then, it seems to me, is “how?”

we could keep him on the straight and narrow.

"We" haven't been very successful at that in the past (Gang of 14, for instance). Why should I think the future would be any different in that regard?

Thank you for clarifying your post, well said.

It wasn’t just your post - yours was a jumping off point for me. I’ve actually been here since 1998, but I forgot my original screen name and reregistered in 2000. Been around for a lot of stuff here. I’m glad I was on DSL and off dialup during the recount, otherwise my phone bill would have approached the national debt level.

My point is, there have been a LOT of posts of pledges to do one thing or another based on our feelings, usually frustration, anger, betrayal and rage. That’s fine. But an emotion does not require that we act on it when acting under its influence means that we do something that is not ultimately the right thing to do.

And this coming from a fairly emotional woman.

But one thing I learned in my flight training back during the mid-90s was that I could feel whatever I wanted, but if I got too high or too low, I’d have to put that emotion in my pocket and feel it when I got on the ground.

My first instructor was a Marine, and the second served in Gulf War I in choppers. I trust that advice, and it’s never gotten me into trouble. I implore my fellow Freepers to consider that advice, and do what’s right for the country - LONG TERM - when the tide of the anger has withdrawn some.

Thanks.

(Damn, those Loyalists are pissing me off! Might as well let the Redcoats have their way. They’re going to win anyway. / s)

First, and don't laugh, we need a name.

Federalist Party? It's an old one, but has a lot of meaning and history.

I

Don’t

GIVE

UP.

EVER.

They will have to take it.

If it causes them pain to lose to McCain. Then I will support that.

We can deal with our rino problem.

There are a lot of wimps on this forum.

Oh I didn’t get my way? Oh I guess I’ll give up or pack up my toys and run away.

Lets build a bunker and wait it out.

Well,

EFF THAT.

I don’t care if I am the last damn person opposing liberals on this planet.

I spit my last breath at them. Stealing form Melville there. LOL

So I’ll grit my teeth, take it like a man, vote for that SOB McCain if I have to, and fight on.

"If McCain is the nominee, they are truly, effectively the same party."

McCain is a RINO moderate, and goes liberal on several issues. Obama/Hillary are Marxists, and no one this liberal have ever taken the WH before. I disagree with probably close to half the issues McCain has, but ALL of the Obama/Hillary issues. They are evil. There are differences. They are even to the left of McCain on issues where McCain is on the left.

Look Tree, Im not trying to flame you or shout you down. You want whats best for this Country, I thing most all FReepers do. There are difference between McCain and Obama/Hillary, they are far worse.

McCain would pick moderate SCOTUS Judges, Obama/Hillary would pick Marxists.

We are in a War, who will pick better Generals, who would surrender.

One of them is pro-life. There are some differences.

Here is a harsh reality.. The nominee for the Republican or Democrat party WILL be President next year. Make your vote count.

"Or imagine yourself as a downed bomber pilot who got himself stabbed, then hung, then taken to Hanoi for medical procedures on a broken clavical along with a fractured skull..."

No one here is questioning McCains war record. It is his judgement as a senator that is in question. Let me toss this in as well. I have two uncles that were at That The Battle Of The Bulge. Another that was a turret gunner on a B-24. One recently died. They came home from the war and went on with thier lives. They rarely talked about what happened and would never say their service qualified them to be senator much less president.

“Perhaps you do as well, but to label those of us that disagree with your “party principle” as traitors is despicable.”

Hear ye, hear ye! Well stated. It still just amazes me that we are now down to one faux preacher man, one crazy man, oops, that’s two crazy men (Paul and McInsane). And the one that is going to be our candidate is the only one I could never vote for from the gitgo. Amazing.

People should hold there horses until the fall, and stop acting like knee-jerk libs, to see how this plays out.

I agree, thank you.

As another conservative CFI friend of mine says when faced with a crisis: "First, wind your watch."

THINK, rather than FEEL, before you vote.

Yepper...drastic times call for holding one's nose and not letting emotions over old wounds dictate your thinking, and pulling the d**n lever.

Yes sir and proud of it. The Reagan resurgence!

Unfortunately from the looks of it right now, your generation will be gone before it happens.

Please don’t get me wrong. I do not like John McCain. I do not support him in any way. I see him as the lesser of two evils, one that will damage the country and one that will destroy the country.

I will not ever allow Hillary into the white house.

I am out for the night, but for now, lets stay optimistic. McCain has not won yet. These possibilities may never come to fruition.

I can't speak for anyone else but voting for McCain is not the right thing, has nothing to do with emotions and has been my position since he authored CFR.

Good night folks.

We can deal with our rino problem.

There are a lot of wimps on this forum.

The voters have spoken and have again proved themselves to be idiots. You're dreaming if you think you can re-educate sufficient numbers of them to get any meaningful future electoral victory.

Faulty analogy. The Patriots relatively quickly (and rightly) resorted to ball and powder rather than concede their ideals. We're still dealing with diplomacy.

Better late than never, right?

Not necessarily. We need to focus our energy on productive efforts, not spinning off at the edges. Start the groundwork for the future, but that horse won't run this time around.

" I don't buy the argument that Carter got us Reagan, so therefore, Clinton or Obama will get us the next Reagan. Don't forget - Carter also got us Islamofascism that was unafraid of the USA. Clinton let it continue. It took W to slow them down. They're raring to go once W's out.

Never forget that!

Not me, I wont forget, we dont want our families living under an Obama or Hillary WH. We have some salvage work to do before November Bootless.
