“Whether you like it or not, the conservative base of the REPUBLICAN party,”

Cali exit polls show Romney won the conservative vote hands-down against McCain.

“the base minus each one’s supporters has also savaged each one as a “liberal”. “

We will need to stop the negative cycle. But step one *would have* to not nominate the traitor to the cause so we could have a unifying nominee ...

“I pointed out that the base’s savaging of the front runners is not healthy to the REPUBLICAN party. “

I agree.
Low turnout now = tough race in the fall.

Yes, I meant the rock ribbed Hunter. Who with nothing but hard campaigning won some of the early straw polls and got some impressive endorsements. From the ‘conservative’ media: Silence.

I know Mitt’s record like the back of my hand. He was a liberal who veered way to the right to try to secure the nomination. But his true colors came out time and again on the campaign trail.

Hunter has had more conservative accomplishments in any of his two year terms than Romney has had his entire life.

Hey, quit your bellyaching. You wanted a RINO, you got one. One RINO’s as good as the next.

There's always a silver lining in a black cloud. I won't have to worry about scraping any campaign stickers off my bumper or getting the glue off. I don't support any of the remaining field enough to deface my bumper.

how the hell will a Republican win in November if they can't win the South?

Same way Kennedy did. Pick a Southerner for V.P.

Time for a new party. The GOP is going to lose.

Terribly.

The House and Senate are going to see huge losses.

I can’t believe the American people are going to elect a Senator as POTUS, much less that they will choose from a pool of three Senators.

Well, I’ve been an Independent since ‘94. I switched to R so I could vote for Hunter. I’ve always voted for any conservative I could find on my ballot. If there wasn’t one then I skipped voting in that race.

I don’t know what the answer is for Republicans. I would say staying in a party that obviously doesn’t want you isn’t a smart thing to do.

I hope Ron Paul runs third party. I’d rather vote for him than what’s left.

I suppose a gloating post...

Not at all. An "educational" one that no vote is ever "wasted." I get tired of the talking heads like Hugh Hewitt & some of the cable "pundits" who forever wax on that instead of voting for the primary guy based upon your convictions, you should vote only on an anti basis (& vote for who you dislike the most).

Those who vote for the #3 person--even if that was Romney--IMO didn't "waste" their vote. But what's happened over the past week or more is pundit after pundit, or FReeper after FReeper, who kept insisting that a vote for Huckabee (as the then #3 candidate was a "wasted vote"). Well, I want to declare it right now that all this was consisted of a propaganda effort to stampede Huck voters into the Romney camp...a shameful hard-nosed, desperate political ploy & grab for any voters they could scrounge for...

But this wasn't the first time I've seen it. (It happens every election cycle) And voters should stop listening to this nonsense in the primaries and vote their convictions and their conscience.

I liked Flipper a lot better than the backstabbing McPain. McPain has been awful these past seven years.

And now the Clinton/Obama ticket can look forward to a landslide come November.

I think you can kiss victory in Iraq and Afghanistan goodbye.

Al Qaeda will look upon the Democratic Victory as their victory and be emboldened. Clinton/Obama will be busy talking and talking instead of defending us.

Now what were you saying about Flipper?

I guess you don't realize this is a Conservative, not a Republican, website.

You think a GOP candidate pushing a $ 50 a gallon gas tax is distinguishable from a Democrat candidate pushing tax hikes?

If the GOP cannot even hold the line on tax hikes, what DO they stand for?

Go look who voted FOR your GOP front runner. McCain has not won the bulk of Republican/Conservative votes anywhere. He is winning the bulk of Independent/Cross over votes. In a three way, or more way, race that is enough to put him over the top since the Anti McCain vote has been always split.

Read McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Leiberman. Try actually learning something about McCain. The McCainiacs are positively insane. They are all so pissed about W they want to elect McCain who spent the last 8 years agreeing more often with Ted Kennedy then Bush!

McCain talks tough about spending but has NEVER backed any legislation to do anything about it.

Does anyone who has watch John McCain over the last 8 years really think he is going to fight with his good friends John Kerry, Ted Kennedy and Russ Feingold over the war?

Ever heard of John McCain’s Baker Commission plan to surrender Iraq to Syria and Iran? Plan to close Gitmo? Plan to extend US Constitutional protections to Terrorists?

Over Judge Appointments?

Ever heard of John McCain’s Gang for 14?

What has McCain ever done about Fed Spending but talk a good game?

Yet we have seen McCain fight tooth and nail for disastrous Anti Conservative legislation. McCain-Finegold, McCain-Kennedy and McCain-Leiberman

So basically what the so called “Conservative” pundits are telling us is ignore the McCain record, ignore his habit of twisting in the wind with every new political breeze and trust that the John McCain of the early 1990s will suddenly emerge to replace the John McCain of the last 10 years once he wins the WH.

Name for me any politician who moved to the right after wining the WH in the last 70 years?

Conservatives absolutely must stop McCain even if it means enduring a Clinton 2 Administration.

At least with a Leftist Administration the GOP Establishment would finally realize they must actually advance our agenda rather then be Democrat Lite if they want our votes. Right now they hold Conservatives in contempt. They think “We can do anything we want and the sheep will show up and vote for us”.

At some point, Conservative are either going to have to make a stand or quit being Conservatives. The time is now. The way to stop it is to make sure McCain is never elected President.

This is what the Party Uber Alles types have got to learn. At some point Conservatives are going to make a stand. We have to teach the Republican Establishment that there are lines they cannot cross. John McCain is that line.

Politically Hillary and McCain are virtually the same. They may have minor difference on this issue or that but ideologically they have the same authoritarian big Govt mindset.

In 2000 Conservatives were so desperate to control the Congress and the Presidency we grit our teeth and accepted Bush had to move Left. So since we were still getting about 70% of what we wanted we made peace with it.

Now, with McCain, the GOP Establishment are telling us “Hey if we want to win we got to more 35% father Left”. If Conservatives accept that, then in 2010, they will tell us “Hey we got to move 15% father Left to win” and the same in 2012-2014 etc etc etc forever.

The Party Uber Alles types have got to be taught a lesson. The lesson is that we actually want our political agenda advanced. We are not willing to become Democrat Lite just to keep THEM in office. The time for that stand is now. The person who best represents this leftward drift in the GOP is McCain. He must be defeated either in the primary or in the General Election

It is also notable that Huckabee won his home state by a much larger margin than did Romney in his. A referendum on the better governor by those that were governed.

I really wish Hunter had done better, but you cant blame his non-success on the media, even though the MSM was in the tank for McCain and Huckabee for some time. ...
*candidates* have to win.
