conservative radio is voting for Romney

Mainly because they all hate McCain, and sense that Huckabee is now acting like a McCain lackey. And no, Romney is not more conservative, he's just conveniently changed his stripes to run for President.

“Abortion should be a non-issue in presidential politics.”
***On the contrary. The president can set in motion policies and nominees who would save lives. What we saw in debating against the tootyfruityrudybots is that they AGREED with his stance on pro-abortion, and they used this line of argumentation to try to get us to give up due to the “inevitability” of rudy’s election. It is simply a lie.

At least the previously {cough} pro abortion former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney was politically astute enough to realize that a pro abortion candidate cannot win the Republican nomination, so, wisely, some say cunningly, adjusted his core bedrock principles accordingly."

Is there a GOP candidate left that was never pro abortion?

Oh, Jim, why’d ya have to go blow a good opening by throwing a jab at my guy? You had me going and I was with ya but then Whammo right in the gut. Romney is a good family man.

“This election shows that there are different kinds of conservatism, and they may not necessarily agree with each other.”

Exactly.

In the end, what made Ronald Reagan so great was the he was able to hold together the various strains of conservatism. No one has been able to do that since. No one. And, I gotta tell you, there ain’t another Reagan on the horizon.

Though the die hard social conservatives are likely to disagree, the conservative movement in the 1980’s was a lot more libertarian than it is today. The splintering of the conservative movement has actually been a long time coming. Well, that time appears to be here now.

Hucklebee had a convincing win in West Virginia, I see. Lots of people must be applauding that, I’d bet

Are you kidding me? You need to take a good look at how this happened.

"May God have mercy on our nation and on our children."

I pray for that but I fear that if McCain is our choice then God is about to judge our nation.

I say that this country is in for a ugly 40 years if not longer! The Republican Party is finished, and U.S. conservatism will also follow the Republican Party to almost non-existence. Leftist politicians in the majority allowing both full enactment of the Fairness Doctrine as well as legally allowing illegal immigrants throughout the U.S. the right to vote in all future U.S. elections will help kill off U.S. conservatism for awhile.

I am going to try and be polite in this discussion so that my comments are not removed by the moderator. You need an education in how the American Political System works. It really does not matter if the president is for or against abortion. He/She CANNOT do anything about it! Can you not get this through your thick skulls! The only way in which a president can conceivably do something about abortion is to nominate strict constructionist judges to the Supreme Court. If (and this is a big if) a case were to come to the the supreme court where Rowe v. Wade decision could be overturned the abortion decision goes back to the State Legislatures. Some states would probably outlaw abortion but the vast majority would not.
I can assure you of one thing, if Clinton or God help us Obama were to be nominated you will NOT get Supreme Court Justices who will overturn Rowe v. Wade.
Just to go on the record, I am against abortion but we a fighting an incredibly STUPID battle against it. By voting for Buffoons like Huckster and Co. you will assure a McCain victory and most likely a Clinton victory.
To win the battle over abortion we will first need to win the culture war. Then we can win the political war. How to do this? Well that is beyond the scope of this blog. However it is possible but it will be a long and difficult struggle. However defeating Romney will be a disaster. You may get some perverse satisfaction from this but it is cutting off your nose to spite your face!
This is why H.L. Mencken will again be proven correct when he stated that nobody ever went broke betting against the intelligence of the American public.

Well, the bottom line is you’re wrong. The Republican party is still a pro-life conservative party and the pro-abortion RINO candidates have been soundly rejected by the GOP primary voters.

Thank God!

...I like Rudy Giuliani. He was my second choice behind Thompson...

I don't mean to attack you, and you are certainly not the only one who has said it... But this is an AWSOME statement you just made. And people wonder why Social-Conservatives did not give a second look to Fred Thompson? And why we feel we are so incredibly divided with 'other' conservatives?

Just a reflexion of how different the two groups are... incredible.

I can see that this is going to require therapy. Did you not see my comment that I’m against abortion? Man get a brain! Being a pro-life conservative party means very little when you are not in power! Are you going to be happy with Clinton or Obama? Get a grip...

Salvation,
Look at my byline: good intentions are not enough. I have been against abortion since the Rowe v Wade decision. It is not good enough to have the right ideas you have to put them into motion. When you just state slogans you put yourself into the same company as those on the radical left. If Clinton or Obama win, the battle against abortion will be set back AT LEAST 20 YEARS! Think about it!
