Bob Knight, the winningest NCAA men's division I basketball coach in history, has retired as Texas Tech's coach effective immediately.

Knight, 67, won his 902nd game Saturday when the Red Raiders downed Oklahoma State. He will be replaced by his son, Pat. Knight informed athletic director Gerald Myers of his decision Monday morning.

Knight won three national titles at Indiana, in 1976, '81 and '87. In all, he took the Hoosiers to 24 NCAA tournament appearances and reached the Final Four two other times.

During his tenure at Texas Tech, Knight was 138-82, and he led the Red Raiders to the NCAA Tournament in four of his six seasons, reaching the Sweet 16 in 2005. The Red Raiders are 11-8 this season and 3-3 in the Big 12, tied for sixth in the conference with Oklahoma

don’t think that Knight is unique in his intensity

Certainly not. McCain comes to mind immediately.

And I really like Bob Knight. One of the last non-feminized men to roam the States.

There’s a better joke in that concept, but that’s the best I could come up with on the fly.

College basketball will never be quite the same for me. Truly a hollow feeling. A remarkable coach and man. Not enough around like him any more.

Since Knight has been in Lubbock, we have seen many of his friends come out and support him, one of the best imho has been Justice Thomas. Knight stands strong for Republicans and our military. HE will be missed but he is already out fishing... as of today.! Good Luck Coach, you will be missed. I will always cherrish the three times I have been able to talk with you since being in Lubbock.

Word from the Texas Tech Chancellor last night is that Coach Knight will step up his fundraising work for the University.

The “victim” in question is a known malcontent and troublemaker here in Lubbock.

hey neighbor.... You are right but you know people.... they like to live by what MSM tells them and don’t try to listen to truth and what we here in Lubbock have seen.

I am sad, but understand, and as I said.. Coach is out fishing today..... he will have lots of time to do just what he loves, fishing, hunting, reading and travel. He will do much more for Texas Tech and bringing in money for Library. Hopefully, we will re-name library after Bob Knight!!!!

There is another story posted at www.newsradio1420.com that he assured the coaching staff as they started to get emotional, “Hey guys, I haven’t died....I’ll still be around.”
His grandkids are here, and he’s pretty close to them. I don’t see him leaving for any length of time, though I do suspect he’ll take up some kind of dual residency somewhere.
Face it, though, if you are of retirement age, you kind of want to be close to medical facilities, and I’ve heard we have the best and biggest between Dallas and L.A.

Thank God for Coach Knight, a real ambassador or Lubbock instead of those Dixie Twits.

TennTuxedo,

You can tell people this until you drop and they still wont get it. When it comes to Coach Knight, the very people who preach not to swallow everything the media spits out, do exactly that, hook, line, and sinker.

It will never change.

I hope he has a long and healthy retirement, but, by resigning in this fashion (even though it was all set up ahead of time o happen at some point) I fear some health issue.

I like Bob. I have followed him for years and spent many great days at Assembly Hall in Bloomington.

Bob has the rough edges, but he is smart and a good motivational speaker.

No doubt he IS a character, but at the same time, many rabid IU basketball fans miss hoisting those chairs up on their flagpoles on Sunday afternoon gameday!

Please, you cannot compare 10 titles and the players that came out of UCLA.

No doubt. Wooden had the best players that money could buy. I would have expected nothing less from him.
