WASHINGTON, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Judie Brown, president of American Life League, released the following statement concerning an order by Delaware Court of Chancery Master Sam Glasscockon to give guardianship of Lauren Richardson to her mother, who wants to remove Lauren's feeding tube.
Lauren is 23 years of age and, due to a heroin overdose, is now in a persistent vegetative state. At the time of the overdose, Lauren was expecting the birth of her baby and reports indicate that she was kept alive to allow her to give birth, which she did in February of last year. Her daughter is now about to celebrate her first birthday, but Lauren may never have another birthday.
Of interest is the fact that, during the pregnancy, Lauren relied on feeding tubes and a breathing machine to keep her alive. Today Lauren has a feeding tube only. But there is a struggle going on regarding whether or not Lauren will live or die.
Lauren's case is more than a sad commentary on the plight of a family battling over what each of the opponents believes would be in her best interest. Her story is a testimony to the growing philosophy in this country that some, because of their condition, are better off dead than alive.
Like Terri Schiavo before her, Lauren is not dying nor is she in a terminal condition. She has been diagnosed as someone in a persistent vegetative state, someone who is very much alive but locked in her body and unable to express her desires to anyone. The only thing Lauren is relying on is a feeding tube without which she will starve to death. Lauren's mother, who is Laurens guardian, wants the feeding tube removed while Lauren's father is fighting to keep Lauren alive.
This family is in our prayers. We hope that, in the interest of respecting Lauren's dignity as a human being whose future improvement or lack thereof is known only to God, the court will listen carefully to those who argue in favor of Lauren's right to life. It is a tragedy beyond description when any human beings fate rests solely on the subjective opinion of others, some of whom truly believe that patients like Lauren have no quality of life and therefore are better off dead.
In debates for the presidential nomination, JUAN MCCAIN said he would't have done squat.
Juan McCain said HE WOULDN'T HAVE INTERVENED, MY FRIENDS.
“Lauren is 23 years of age and, due to a heroin overdose, is now in a persistent vegetative state.”
Terri Shiavo was not in a purposefully SELF INDUCED state of vegetation. This womans’ family has my sympathies while she herself does not.
If you mean this past Saturday, prove it. If you meant some Saturday you can't pin down, FORGET ABOUT IT.
And all too many people who claim to be conservatives look for reasons to rationalize killing the disabled.
If it costs so little, why the fuss?
They family SHOULD be allowed to just take her home and care for her.
Juan McCain said his colleagues were motivated to help Terri. He didn’t say he was because he was one of most callous re: Terri, one numerous occasions.
So you believe that drug addicts who overdose should just be left to die?
Forgot to add, IF they pay for it themselves, or get someone to fund it.
“So you believe that drug addicts who overdose should just be left to die?”
It is my opinion that they are comitting suicide anyway. If this woman was magically transformed back to full health, she would likely be dead by overdose within a short time.
I have dealt with addicts much of my life. My compassion for the self-destructive ran out long, long ago.
In short, yes that is what I believe.
Read the article, her mother and father are battling over whether or not to kill her.
This situation IS NOT about cost, don’t try to make that an issue.
The culture of death is very well funded and they pick their cases carefully in pursuit of their agenda. Their agenda is to euthanize the disabled and infirmed. Terri Schiavo was awarded more than enough money to provide for her care for the remainder of her life, that money (HER money, not her estranged husband’s) was used to kill her.

Senate Passes Legislation on Schiavo Case
Monday, March 21, 2005
WASHINGTON - The Senate passed a bill that could prolong Terri Schiavo's life while a federal court considers her case while House Republicans, stymied by Democrats, scrambled to bring enough lawmakers back to the Capitol for an emergency vote early Monday.
There is a great deal of difference between compassion and a willingness to continue enabling.
“There is a great deal of difference between compassion and a willingness to continue enabling.”
Acording to the addict, both are suckers.
AG Gonzalez was in charge of Terri's rescue and he cancelled it. They're all responsible for her death from the prez on down.
It's about someone stupid overdosing.
There is a price for stupidity.
Many whole nations are so stupid as to reject capitalism, and especially capitalism for their food production. As a result, as a nation, they are always one day away from starvation. Many do starve to death.
Sometimes, the price for stupidity is death.
What you seem to ignore is the FACT there there is a centuries-old medical technique to keep her from dying.
I've never before read such a succinct or precise summary of the foundational facts surrounding Terri Schiavo murder.
Thanks.
In the national starvation case I cited, it's capitalism.
It's really hard to have much sympathy for her.
HEROIN, while pregnant?
Better a millstone be tied around her neck, and she be thrown into the sea.
They need to pick a case that involves a human.
