HANNITY: And Senator John McCain is gaining momentum, but not all conservatives are jumping for joy. Senator McCain is a polarizing candidate for many. And critics point to his stance on immigration, his work with Russ Feingold. But with a potential Hillary Clinton candidacy on the Democratic side of the aisle, will true conservatives eventually fall in line and support the Arizona senator?
Joining us now, author of the "New York Times" best seller, "If Democrats Had Any Brains, They'd be Republicans," our friend Ann Coulter. How are you?
ANN COULTER, AUTHOR, "IF DEMOCRATS HAD ANY BRAINS": Fine, thank you.
HANNITY: I'm standing on substance here.
COULTER: Yes.
HANNITY: It's immigration. It's limits on free speech. It's not supporting tax cuts.
COULTER: It's Anwar. It's torture at Guantanamo.
HANNITY: Class warfare rhetoric. It's interrogations. It's Guantanamo. It's Anwar. These are not small issues to conservatives.
COULTER: No, and if you're looking at substance rather than whether it's an R or D after his name, manifestly, if our's candidate than Hillary's going to be our girl, Sean, because she's more conservative than he is. I think she would be stronger on the war on terrorism. I absolutely believe that.
HANNITY: That's the one area I disagree with you.
COULTER: No, yes, we're going to sign up together. Let me explain that point on terrorism.
HANNITY: You'd vote for Hillary --
COULTER: I will campaign for her if it's McCain.

Ann does her homework so I value her opinion. However, if the choices ultimately boiled down to McCain and Clinton I may just not vote.
She hasn't indicated that she's changed her opinion of Hillary or politics in general. She just sees Hillary as the lesser of two evils and she made a very convincing case.
Unfortunately, she probably ruined Hillary's chances with that spectacular comparison. MoveOn has voted to support Hussein.
She's right about McCain saying he's the only Republican to support the surge...an obvious lie, but he keeps on saying it. Also, McCain is simply wrong on amnesty for illegals. Finally, he is in bed with too many Dimocrat liberals for my liking. He's a RINO and I am so disappointed that this country can't find a GOP champion for what (I thought) the GOP stands for. I just don't trust the guy and I think he'll say anything to get elected. But then, so do all the other candidates, except Romney.
Ann is only saying what a lot of us are thinking. McCain is Bob Dole redux but without the sense of humor. Hillary can be opposed and tripped up - evil yes but insane no. She can be reverse triangulated, McCain however does not bring the base together (oddly Hillary does).
If the decent and intelligent people--including Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh--who have indicated that they may refuse to support McCain or any other Republican nominee--actually carry out their threat not to do so, Bill Clinton will likely be filling Laura Bush's shoes.
(Kinda reminds you of Cinderella's stepsister, doesn't it?)
These good, decent, and heretofore wise people have a loose screw in their heads. They need to get it tightened up--AND FAST!
If the vision of Bill Clinton lounging around the White House puttin' the moves on one babe after another while Hillary drags the U.S.A. down the Road to Perdition doesn't tightened these loose screws, nothing will--except, perhaps, the reality that could follow that vision, but by then, of course, it will be too late.
Another way for GOPers to look at it, who would rather impeach and remove, a Republican or Canklesaurus Regina?
I saw Ann on H&C - Colmes was loving it “I’ve won! My work is over” he said, refering Coulter saying she preferred Hillary over McVain.
However, I think Ann’s saying “Hillary is better than McCain” on this or that is the wrong argument to make. I see it more as McCain being the really wrong, even a dangerous person to wear the Republican mantle because he is not, in almost every way, a Conservative Republican.
I think the better rationale for not supporting McCain is like this: Next year, minority Republicans in the House and the Senate would fight a President Hillary tooth and nail every step of the way. Those same minority Republicans will mostly roll over for a President McCain’s same-as-Dimocrat agenda on higher taxes, moderate judges, un-free political speech, borders/immigration, global warming BS, the coddling of terrorists (no water board and they must get US lawyers), no drill in ANWR or Gulf Coast, opposed the Federal Marriage Amendment, he is for a massive energy green tax & carbon credits, etc. Even on the WOT and military matters, I have little doubt that McCain would, if it became politically or personally expedient, join his Liberal friends on legislation or issues that would be to the detriment of the military.
That being the sad reality, I’d prefer an energized group of Republican politicians, pundits/talkers and the base opposing Hillary than a group of go-along-to-get-along Republicans bowing to the faux-Conservative McCain.
Well look at the GOP. They’ve played every democrat card and used every democrat tactic in this election. We sit back and laugh at the democrats and their monolithic voting blocks that remain on the plantation. But ten seconds later the GOP is demanding that we do exactly the same like good sheep.
Obama most liberal voting senator of '07
I can’t believe so many here find this shrew attractive. If God is a just God, when Islamic terrorists die as “martyrs” they’ll be stuck with 72 shrews like her for eternity, nagging, complaining, and emasculating them forever.
I suspect that what she means is that she’ll trash McCain, and that will help Hillary.
What?? Are you looking for Webmd??
She’s drawing a line in the sand. I’ve already done the same.
The fact that McCain is even a contender speaks volumes about the sad state of the Republican Party.
I assume the transcript was copied from Fox News. Rather sad that they don't know how to spell ANWR.
No = it goes to the whole show - gotta scroll down to the Ann segment
“Hillary lies less than McCain and she’s smarter than McCain.”

No. I’m pretty sure they were talikng about this guy.

If the frog doesn’t recognized it’s going to be boiled because the heat is gradually going up, and if the heat won’t be turned down, the only way to save the frog is to turn the heat up fast so it jumps out before it’s too late.
Pataki wreaked havoc on NY because he was a RINO: sympathetic to leftist causes, and got the support of the right because of the (R) after his name. I don’t want to see the same thing happen to the nation.
Sometimes voting for the greater of two evils is preferred - at least people recognize it for what it is.
You Party Uber Alles types really have got to try thinking instead of emoting for a change. A politician who is 10% on your side, 90% on the other is still your enemy no matter what party label you slap on him.
No Conservative should ever consider voting for McCain. We worry the others will betray us. We know McCain will betray us. Look at his record for the last 8 years? Been nothing but betrayal and obstruction.
With any of the other candidates we have a seat at the table. We know John McCain will never listen to us on anything.
With McCain Conservatives would get maybe 10%. That would not be worth the enormous long term damage McCain would do to both the GOP and the Conservative Movement. With a McCain Administration we would have a mislabeled Conservative Administration pushing Democrat Party polices while the GOP took all the political fall out of the consequences of those disastrous decisions.
Just what could Conservatives expect to get from a McCain Administration? Based on McCains record for the last 8 years, we could expect to get tough talk on foreign policy and spending with no real action on any issue.
Do people forget the Democrats trying to get McCain to flip partys in Jan 2006? Forget that Dems wanted McCain as their VP candidate in 2004?
How quickly the supposed Conservatives for McCain forget McCains political record. From Tax-cuts to the War to Judges McCains whole strategy has been to be as Liberal as possible and stay in the GOP.
Politically there is very little difference between Hillary and McCain. You get minor variations on this and that issue, like abortion, but over all McCain and Clinton share the same political philosophical outlook
McCain has done nothing for the Conservative movement in 8 years. While talking a good game on spending, he has done nothing. This is particularly galling considering all the issues CFR, Judges, Immigration Anti Torture Amendment-Gang of 14 etc etc etc issues which McCain was more then willing to throw his weight behind an issues to get legislation passed.
McCain has actively worked against the Conservatives on Social issues, on the WOT, on Iraq, on Gitmo, against Rummy, on Immigration and on Judges, on Global Warming etc etc etc etc etc. McCain has far more in common with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama then he does with any Conservative.
Funny how the Talking Heads miss this. Out of 49 Republican Senators McCain has been ranked 45th by the American Conservative Union for his voting record!
McCain would be the worse of both worlds. A mislabeled Conservative Administration actively advancing the Democrat Partys agenda while knifing Conservatives in the back daily. You could even count on a McCain Administration appointing Leftist Judges in order to avoid fighting with the Democrats in the US Senate.
Tough on Foreign Policy? You think Mr Close Gitmo and extend the same legal protections US Citizens have to the terrorists McCain is going to have a tough foreign policy? The father of the Baker Commission and the plan to surrender Iraq to Iran and Syria is strong on Foreign Policy? Not based on his recored. The wrost thing that a McCain Administration would do is it would fracture the few remaining GOP Congress critters into pro and anti McCain factions. McCain would be the worst of all world politically for the Conservatives.
At least with a Democrat Leftist Administration, as opposed to a McCain Leftist with a GOP Label Administration, the Democrats would get all the political fall out of their disastrous political decisions and the GOP would unite in fighting them. The worst of all possible worlds for Conservatives in 2008 would be McCain getting elected President.
