HANNITY: And Senator John McCain is gaining momentum, but not all conservatives are jumping for joy. Senator McCain is a polarizing candidate for many. And critics point to his stance on immigration, his work with Russ Feingold. But with a potential Hillary Clinton candidacy on the Democratic side of the aisle, will true conservatives eventually fall in line and support the Arizona senator?

Joining us now, author of the "New York Times" best seller, "If Democrats Had Any Brains, They'd be Republicans," our friend Ann Coulter. How are you?

ANN COULTER, AUTHOR, "IF DEMOCRATS HAD ANY BRAINS": Fine, thank you.

HANNITY: I'm standing on substance here.

COULTER: Yes.

HANNITY: It's immigration. It's limits on free speech. It's not supporting tax cuts.

COULTER: It's Anwar. It's torture at Guantanamo.

HANNITY: Class warfare rhetoric. It's interrogations. It's Guantanamo. It's Anwar. These are not small issues to conservatives.

COULTER: No, and if you're looking at substance rather than whether it's an R or D after his name, manifestly, if our's candidate than Hillary's going to be our girl, Sean, because she's more conservative than he is. I think she would be stronger on the war on terrorism. I absolutely believe that.

HANNITY: That's the one area I disagree with you.

COULTER: No, yes, we're going to sign up together. Let me explain that point on terrorism.

HANNITY: You'd vote for Hillary --

COULTER: I will campaign for her if it's McCain.

Exactly right...Ann Coulter has become a loud-mouth embarassment to thoughtful Republicans. Without conflict; she’s nobody. She’s not thinking about unifiying the party or the country, but rather, about her next sound-bite or book. Ann says a McCain presidency will corrupt republicans who will remain loyal to a republican president. I agree with her on that. If Hillary wins at least the republicans will fight against her liberal agenda.

I won't vote for the Democrat, but I'll write in Fred Thompson's name rather than vote for McCain. If we're going to lose (and with McCain, we will lose), I'd rather lose on principle.

No one who truly believed in Reaganism - who understood his 11th Commandment (”Thou shalt not speak ill of any other Republican”) would EVER make the heretical statements she made.

She deserves to be shunned, and forever placed in the conservative dustbin along with the likes of similar phonies such as David Brock, Ariana Huffington, Elizabeth McCaughey Ross, and Kevin Phillips.

Meanwhile, the Democrats get a free pass - here and everywhere - because Freepers are too busy hating on John McCain.

November is coming, and the election of Hillary and/or Obama will make 1964 look like 1984 by comparison. Conservatism will be at a minimum irrelevant, if not extinct: the only purpose the GOP will serve is to vote on ultra-liberal legislation. You think McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, and McCain-Lieberman were examples of bad legislation?

Well, STFB.

Wait till you get a load of Schumer-Feingold, and Clinton-Obama, and Kennedy-Franken. And, oh yeah, that won’t be just legislation, it will become the law of the land. Filibuster, my ass: the GOP is running for the tall grass as fast as they can. There’ll be nobody left with the balls to filibuster, much less 40 senators.

And if you remember the Great Society 1965 debacle following 1964, there’s a good chance that will be the case for the rest of our lifetimes, and probably our children’s.

But, yeah, go ahead and campaign for Hillary.

Dissing Nancy Reagan:

I VERY strongly disagree with what Coulter said last night (I saw it, and was dumbfounded).

BUT.

She didn't diss Nancy. She merely stated that she didn't care for her politics - and I don't think that unfair. We didn't vote for her, we voted for her husband. I have a great deal of admiration for Nancy Reagan - and I'm glad that she consented to share a lot of her husband's time with the people of this country - but I don't care for her stances on guns or 2008 Presidential candidates. That's not disrespect, that's simple politics.

That being said, Coulter is completely wrong on the McCain vs. Hillary issue. I despise McCain's politics, and though I'd rather vote for Fred Thompson, to me it looks like the 2nd best to him is Mitt Romney - and I'm definitely in ABM (Anybody But McStain) mode. I think that only the Huckster is lower on my list than McStain (well, OK, Ron Paul - but I'm only discussing Earthlings).

BUT.

McCain, as bad as he is, is not even close to Clinton (or Obama). McCain has a lifetime rating of 82% from the American Conservative Union, vs. 9% for Hillary and 8% for Obama. While I never won a Nobel Prize in Mathematics, I think that my 720 Math SAT score qualifies me to state that 82 > 9, and also that 82 > 8. More to the point, any President nominates federal judges, Supreme Court Justices, issues Executive Orders, is the CINC of the armed forces, the molder of our foreign policy and the appointer of Cabinet officers. I simply cannot stomach the idea of Monica's Ex-Boyfriend's Wife doing these things, EVEN at the price of McStain in the Oval Office.

Definitely, it is a case of picking the lesser of 2 evils. Yeah, I know, either way you've got evil - but less is better than more. I'm not sure if our Republic can stand the stress of another Clinton term or 2. And Obama...I wonder if that SOB is going to be giving secrets to the Al Qaida types - I honestly don't know, yet this empty suit with nothing substantive on his resume has a good chance at becoming POTUS. The world has gone NUTS!

I see. “Party uber alles”! Screw McCain’s political record. All that matters is he has the “correct” party label next to his name. This sort of mindless party id worship is no more attractive when Republicans practice it, then it is when Democrats practice it. A guy who is only on our side of the issues about 10% of the time is NOT our political ally.

Good point, but I do remember a snippet on the news (ABC?) where McCain did say that and did not qualify it. Perhaps he meant what you're suggesting.

She definitely is not a team player. Defeated at the polls she approaches the problem with, "I'll take my ball and go home.." The amazing thing about the primary process thus far is that ad hominem arguments are failing to dislodge McCain.

She thinks McCain is so unworthy that she feels impelled to pull a Benedict Arnold and support Hillary; her supporters on FR cheer.

The problem is not McCain it is the cut-and-run conservatives who cannot tolerate not having complete and total control over the party. To be sure, all successful organizations have core values and there are fierce debates; however, when push comes to shove most real conservatives recognize that we have more in common with one another than differences. Consequently even after a disappointing primary, we join ranks agains modern liberalism and its candidates.

Well, Coulter and her followers can always support dunkin donuts or some other worthy candidate in a Constitution Party; if all else fails there is always Ron Paul. No one ever called either Ron Paul or Anne Coutler humble. So maybe this similarity augurs for the Paul option being better than cutting and running.

At least I know what The Nominatrix stands for. McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, The Keating Five? I can trust Hitlery to be a c-word, a thief, a Communist, power crazed, and a liar. I don't know WHERE Little Johnnie is coming from. I've got no problem with splitting my ticket.

He mentioned recently that he is against illegal immigration because of the amount of opposition from the population. That's not what he and Kennedy said back when. Was he that clueless and out of touch back then? He SAYS he would not sign a new AWB bill. How can we be sure? It's what worries me about him. We don't need another professed liar AND airhead in that office.
