Reagan Library Republican Presidential Debate: January 30, 2008

SIMI VALLEY, California (CNN) -- Republican presidential hopefuls will face off Wednesday night without a familiar face as ex-New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is expected to drop out and endorse front-runner Sen. John McCain.

The remaining candidates will take the stage in a debate -- sponsored by CNN, the Los Angeles Times and Politico -- beginning at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday.

The event at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, follows McCain's Tuesday night win in the Florida primary.

McCain topped former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 36 percent to 31 percent in the hotly contested race.

Giuliani placed third with 15 percent of the vote, followed closely by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee with 14 percent, and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas was fifth with 3 percent.

Giuliani is expected to end his White House bid and endorse McCain at a campaign event in California later Wednesday, Republican Party sources said.

Minus Giuliani, the debate will be a four-candidate affair -- McCain, Romney, Huckabee and Paul -- with CNN's Anderson Cooper moderating.

It disturbed me that he couldn't even prevent that angry look and demeanor when he was giving a victory speach in Floriduh last night. The man scares me.

If McAmnesty wins the primary, I will write-in Thomas Jefferson.

I saw McCain rip into a witness in a committee hearing.

It was disgusting. Like he was trying to prove how powerful he is. The witness was a peon getting berated for his personal gratification of his ego. Disgusting.

I cant stand the man. A real dirt-bag.

You know the true character of a man by how he treats people who he has power over. McCains character is garbage.

“Sentiments”.

Just because Rush mistakenly uses “sediments” in place of “sentiments,” doesn’t make it right.

This is correct in my opinion, not to mention McCain is an agent for elites, not the people.

***If Romney will just keep hammering McCain and his lies it might happen. Unfortunately...he can’t get the press McCain gets.***

I can’t, and won’t, vote for McCain either. Just can’t do it. C’est la vie.

Well...after watching this "debate" and previous republican debates I have only one question: "Is this the best the republican party can muster up?"

My vote is too valuable to be wasted on this collection of _______________(fill in the blank).

Does anyone remember how hateful McCain talked to Arnold’s wife, Maria Shriver during the 2000 campaign?

Oh my yes and I recall she was beside herself with how he embarrassed her.

The problem... is that most members of Congress don't pay attention to what's going on.

Paul had some good points....it seems like we have gotten away from our constitution and rhat it really says and what it really means. While Paul is a bit too much on somethings....we do need his voice to remind is about what our constitution and what it means to government and our citizens. I guess any good, legitimate conservative has to have a touch of libertarianism in their make up.

Me three. I am tired of being told I have to choose between socialism and less socialism. I want to vote for the Free Market, to rollback the welfare state, the RKBA, to vote for Free Speech, for a strong economy, and to empower Individuals and not the State.

I am voting for Ron Paul, and have sent him some money.

The press is waiting until after McCain secures the nomination to reveal how poor his health really is.

Yep, that is why they are definitely pushing his nomination. His age and health will be made into a big issue come Novemeber, especially if against Obama. He is not the best choice to be the nominee, for innumerable reasons, but that one is going to be the most apparent if not the most debated.

I’m surprised he didn’t endorse Obama.

LOL...it is surprising. I wish these guys would just let the candidates run..and just shut up and endorse the final winner. They all have to get their face on the news. Sickening.

The whole scenario tonight was staged by CNN to make McCain come off looking like a combination of President Reagan and Adm. John Paul Jones, hero of the American navy.

Setting, Air Force One looming over the candidates.

Candidates seated, to the advantage of the stooped shrimp, McBonaparte.

Surrounding setting, the aura of the Reagan Library.

Nancy Reagan, widow (and RINO) sitting stage center. Ahnold Schwartzenegger, symbol of muscle and might (and RINO), sitting stage center, next to the widow.

Coming attraction, Ahnold endorsing McQueeg tomorrow.

All very cunning of CNN. Romney, Huck and Paul undoubtedly figured this all out, but the commie news network ran the show and picked the venue. Clever AND cunning.

I hope in future debates, candidates boycott media-run debates and agree to participate in them only if non-media sponsors run the show.
