Reagan Library Republican Presidential Debate: January 30, 2008
SIMI VALLEY, California (CNN) -- Republican presidential hopefuls will face off Wednesday night without a familiar face as ex-New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is expected to drop out and endorse front-runner Sen. John McCain.
The remaining candidates will take the stage in a debate -- sponsored by CNN, the Los Angeles Times and Politico -- beginning at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday.
The event at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, follows McCain's Tuesday night win in the Florida primary.
McCain topped former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 36 percent to 31 percent in the hotly contested race.
Giuliani placed third with 15 percent of the vote, followed closely by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee with 14 percent, and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas was fifth with 3 percent.
Giuliani is expected to end his White House bid and endorse McCain at a campaign event in California later Wednesday, Republican Party sources said.
Minus Giuliani, the debate will be a four-candidate affair -- McCain, Romney, Huckabee and Paul -- with CNN's Anderson Cooper moderating.

Luntz’s focus group are split between Romney and Huck as the winner.
Your husband's right! First of all it's that Mormon thing...I've experimented with LDS and when they talk about golden plates we here think they are either wealthy folks eating on some kind of expensive dining apparatus instead of our Walmart dinnerware or speaking about Jimmy Joe's new set of teeth after he hit the lottery.
Then Romney's from M'achussets (M'chussetts 'cause their ass is running for the presidency) and naturally he's suspicious. When we say y'all he'll be thinking of some kind of sailboat instead of a Southern speech pattern and I don't think he'll much cotton to grits, or collards, or cornbread and I know our caffine-laden RC colas and big moonpies are a no-no.
Then there's his wife, whose name is Anne instead of Annie-Sue and his five strapping sons ride around in the "Mittmobile: instead of a pickup and ain't none of them ever toted a gun on their shoulder in wartime or in the huntin' field.
Nope, Romney grew up in Michigan and then migrated to Boston; he don't know nothing about SEC football or fishin', probably never saw a pond cooter or a 'gator, been coon huntin' or pulled a plug off a square of Brown Mule and I don't think he's gonna do well here.
If people saw, you’re 100% right.
He’s UNFIT FOR COMMAND!
Halfway listening to cnn’s panel. Not one person has commented on McCain’s lack of energy tonight. He was practically leaning all the way across his desk.
“Why doesnt somebody form a 527 and swiftboat McSlime with the horrible Keating Five Scandal? “
The Dems will certainly do it if the time comes.
Sorry. I cannot get on board with McCain. If that’s the direction of the party, it goes without me.
If nothing else, we are all learning who are true Conservatives and who are not.
There is a difference between “benchmarks” and “timetables”.
Benchmarks are event driven, timetables are of course time based.
Romney talked about setting timetables.
And no, the seating was no accident, nor did I suggest it was. I said there was probably no “they” that decided where Nancy Reagan was going to sit without her input; and if she didn’t want to sit next to Arnold she would have said “I want to sit HERE.” pointed to a seat, and that would be THAT. It is her husbands Library after all.
So someone should be endorsed for flattery? What a joke.
Good question.
If the future of the country is more important to him than his friendship with McCain, he should endorse Romney.
“and he deserves respect.”
No, he doesn’t. He’s a disgusting person and he proved it without a shadow of a doubt tonight.
Your first mistake is using ABC to support your point of view....Romney was pointing out McCain’s blatant lies...not going into detail of what his strategy on Iraq is.
Man, did Bill Bennette gain so much weight?
Arnold may be having second thoughts about McQueq. But I doubt if he will act on them.
Bill Bennett is a tool.
And his hair is so poofy!
If McCain is the nominee I’d seriously consider not voting.
Because voting for him in 2008 means that if he wins I’d have to vote for him again in 2012.
If he goes down in flames at least I can have a real candidate in 2012.
That almost sums him up.
Ugh, I really think he is so odious. He is a horrible speaker . I bet he would act like he was a little “dicktater” too. LOL
Hillary won’t have to crush McCain.
The Mainstream Media will do it for her.
Bait and Switch. Divide and Conquer.
