Reagan Library Republican Presidential Debate: January 30, 2008
SIMI VALLEY, California (CNN) -- Republican presidential hopefuls will face off Wednesday night without a familiar face as ex-New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is expected to drop out and endorse front-runner Sen. John McCain.
The remaining candidates will take the stage in a debate -- sponsored by CNN, the Los Angeles Times and Politico -- beginning at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday.
The event at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, follows McCain's Tuesday night win in the Florida primary.
McCain topped former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 36 percent to 31 percent in the hotly contested race.
Giuliani placed third with 15 percent of the vote, followed closely by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee with 14 percent, and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas was fifth with 3 percent.
Giuliani is expected to end his White House bid and endorse McCain at a campaign event in California later Wednesday, Republican Party sources said.
Minus Giuliani, the debate will be a four-candidate affair -- McCain, Romney, Huckabee and Paul -- with CNN's Anderson Cooper moderating.

The MSM spin will minimize McCain’s poor performance. They’ll gloss over it and allow McCain to skate to the nomination.
He looks like that next to anybody :) But you're right.
Nothing wrong with a learning curve as long as they implement what they’ve learned. I would like the chance to vote for Romney and give him that chance over any other option.
I missed the whole debate...doggone....at this point i am baffled by what is going on..i have doubts about all the candidates now...
I just wish there were more choices...waiting til Feb 5th to see what happens next..

Here’s the best scenario:
Fred Thompson is loyal to his supporters, who almost all oppose McCain. He endorses Romney.
Romney taps Fred for VP. Fred campaigns in the South and Midwest; Romney in the North, East and West.
Fred would be a good VP...slap Congress around, preside over the Senate, judicial moninations. A very good adviser.
But, the Republicans aren’t smart enough to make it happen.
“Romeny is not going to win. He’s a phoney.. I can’t believe any conservative would support him over McCain.”

...and to help McCain take down Romney. The problem is that McCain could never choose Huckabee because it would verify their collusion. Just call it Huckabee's blaze of glory exit.

Well, that’s a wrap.
With Schwarzeneggar endorsement, Crist endorsement, and Guiliani endorsement, and a few hundred other national leaders, McCain is the nominee. Time to get on board and stop whining.
The dimpled Governor did better tonight than at any debate to date.
Regardless of how you feel about McCain’s politics, the personal venom being spewed at him is juvenile and says more about the poster than McCain. The man has served his country with honor, whether you agree with him or not, and he deserves respect.

probably very few. The DBM chooses a select few sound bites that fit their agenda and plays them over and over. That's how McCain won Florida, with a false accusation played over and over. Same as Billary winning in New Hampshire with her very human response to the question about her not being as likeable as Obama. It was played all day for the last couple of days before the election. Of course, they didn't play her much less flattering question that came 7 seconds after her appealing (to women at least) response. The DBM has power.
McCain is a certain loser in the general. His nomination must be aborted.
Paul did have some good things to say...but he is so off the wall about the war that I can’t stomach him.
