My question is, "why are there still 'liberal' Republicans?!"

They are Dems that re-registered to the Republican Party to vote for McCain. In FL the delegates were removed for the Democrats so they had nothing to gain by voting in their own party. Mischief makers. It worked. Now they will register back to Dem so they can vote Dem in the general election.

There is a great book out there, circa 20 something years ago.. called “America’s Secret Aristocracy” by Steven Birmingham. I think you would find it fascinating.

You wonder if these are the same "snow birds" that have residences in another state. Specifically, New York.

Romney was never the “champion” of abortion, your protestations notwithstanding. He used to believe a woman should have a right to choose for herself whether to have an abortion, which of course means he didn’t oppose abortion. But he wasn’t it’s “champion”, and the hyperbole does nothing to advance the discussion. NONE of our candidates were 100% pro-life, except possible Keyes which is just one of the many reasons he had no chance of getting elected.

By 2002, he was more giving lip service to the right to choose than anything, since there was nothing he could do anyway to stop it.

But when he COULD do something, when it was within his power, he realised too late his error, and he did what he could to be pro-life. When almost half of the REPUBLICANS IN THE SENATE were supporting EMBRYONIC STEM CELL RESEARCH, and spending our money on it, Romney stood up in a liberal state and opposed spending money on it.

Abortion is legal, and in fact many pro-life people support abortion, be it to save a mother’s life, or for rape or incest. So long as there is ANY reason for a person to have an abortion, it WILL be covered by medical health insurance plans. If it is legal to have an abortion, and a woman’s health is in any way in danger, and the woman decides to have an abortion, the insurance will have to be there.

When it is illegal, the insurance won’t cover it. Until then, it will, and the demagoging about the 85% democratic mass. legislature covering medically necessary abortions in a health care plan is stupid, and destructive to the pro-life movement.

Look, the pro-life movement has enough trouble keeping from being painted as extremists, without so-called “lifers” running ads against pro-life candidates who aren’t sufficiently pure, or complaining about health insurance that people pay for covering a medical procedure that is legal in this country.

Especially when those same people are also up in arms about the plan-b pill, which at worst is only SOMETIMES an abortion pill, and which is used primarily in cases of rape, where most of our pro-life elected officials still SUPPORT abortion, which mostly gets doctors out of the procedure, which is not seen as an abortion pill by most people which means it does not contribute to the coursening of our culture like medical procedure abortions do, and which many people see as a way to AVOID having to have abortion.

I realise the Catholic pro-life community also opposes contraception. We could make that into ANOTHER chasm in the conservative movement, or we could stop tearing down our mostly-conservative brethren and realise that even if we are all UNITED we can not win an election on our own.

You are still wrong.
I live around 3 miles from the oldest church in Calif.
Mission San Diego de Alcalá, founded 1769 and still an active church. and founded by Father Junípero Serra of Spain.
Ships from Spain and their military set up base.

At that time there were and still are Indian tribes in the east and NE county, Indians not Mexicans.

You’re correct for the most part, but didn’t McCain do well in the panhandle? That should have been Romney territory.

So are we just going to have one party now? I can’t see any difference any more. Or rather, how will two parties differ?

She is, however, a Marxist with an insatiable appetite for power. Once president, she'd do as she damned well pleases. With a demoncrat Congress, just who is gonna stop her?

If the Liberal Mind Fog were erased from even 10% of the population, the Democrats would be toast. If Hillary were careless enough to let that happen, she wouldn't stay in power very long.

The other big shocker is that Hillary beat Obama by nearly 300,000 votes 853,533 to 566,421 or 50% to 33%..would love to see the stats on how those votes break down...

If Florida is a mirror of a national election, that may be an indication of how close the general election will be in Nov....it could be a razor thin margin..

Here’s my take on how things play out.

Unless there is a big conservative backlash against McCain coalescing around Romney, McCain will continue towards victory.

Giuliani is going to endorse him. The press will increasingly anoint McCain while ignoring Romney.

More and more of the Party bighats will come out for McCain. He’s been fed money since New Hampshire and now he’ll get a lot more.

The Party doesn’t work on ideology or electability even. It works on the buddy system. Even if McCain loses he’ll be in the Senate to pay back favors.

What can the Party bighats get out of Romney? If he wins he doesn’t owe the jerkwads a thing. They supported Giuliani and McCain and represent the old discredited Republican Party.

People better get smart real fast.

Duval Co. democrats had a 55% voter turnout in the ‘06 Texas primary. Wasn’t Celis a Duval County Deputy Sheriff back then?

Don’t you wonder how many ILLEGALS voted?" I sure do. Fox was talking about the exit polls earlier and said Romney won 2 to 1 over McCain among voters who called themselves Very Conservative. McCain won among moderates and liberals....and this was supposed to be a closed primary.

I guess that is the new code word now

1- If you are independed or lefty you can be considered Conservative

2- but to be a conservative you have to be Very Conservative!

LOL
