AUGUSTA, MaineRepublican presidential candidate Ron Paul said Monday he is hoping for "a grand showing" in this weekend's Maine Republican caucuses.
Stopping at the State House on a brief visit to the state, Paul was enthusiastically cheered by supporters throughout a rally that drew more than 150 people.
Sounding his themes of less government and more freedom, the Texas congressman said he is optimistic about many things happening in the country, but pessimistic about its leadership.

"We have to live within our means"
"Our good jobs are overseas. Our debt is worse than ever. ... Our national defense is weaker not stronger. ... We have lost confidence as a nation that freedom really works."
"They always talk about how you're going to run the economy when you're president. And I tell them flat out that I don't want to run the economy. I don't know how to run the economy. The president's not supposed to run the economy,"
. "The government is supposed to provide freedom of choice so that you have an incentive to earn your own money. But you keep your own money, that's the important thing,"

While the media will focus on the results from Florida, and probably take down the campaign of my friend Rudy in the process, those results are less important to you and me. Let them fight in Florida while we bring our message to Americans in other areas, like the economically hard-hit state of Maine
We're competing very strongly in all the caucus states, and in all other states where delegates are up for grabs. And we're going to keep picking up delegates. Our strategy is already working
Instead of a coronation of one of the establishment candidates, the delegates, influenced by the people, will decide. And I am afraid that this will take place in a time of heightened economic crisis. That means even more Americans will be ready to hear our message.

Mainer to watch address from First Ladys box

A Mainer will have a prime view of Barbara Bushs hairdo tonight oh, and also the State of the Union Address.
Staff Sergeant Craig Charloux, a Bangor member of the U.S. Army, was invited by Sen. Olympia Snowe to President Bushs yearly speech. His seating assignment is in the First Ladys box, right behind Bushs wife.
Charloux served as a squad leader in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, based in Eastern Iraq. He served for 14 months, coming home in Nov. 2007, according to a press release.
He was injured after two grenade blasts, but still completed a raid of Baloor, Iraq, where they collected enemy weapons and caused the demise of eight al-Qaeda operatives. He received a Purple Heart.

It’s refreshing to see a politician who has read and understands the Constitution (and economics)!
If he had sane foreign policy stances he would probably be the front-runner right now.
Ron Paul’s problem is that he’s too darned honest. We American’s love being lied to far too much to elect such a man. We’d rather face 1000 nukes that have the lies stop.
He knows that he doesn’t know how to run the economy, which is part and parcel different from all the other candidates, who apparently DO know how to run the economy. (All differently from each other, however. Can they all be correct? Is it likely that any is correct?)
He is correct about that, and other thing as well. But sorry, it is 2008. We are at war and the barbarians are at the gate. His foreign policy positions are suicidal.
Typical Ron Paul. Being honest.
Ron Paul is to 2008 what Dennis Kucinich was to 2004. Someone who just didn’t know when to quit.
That is he is correct on. I would vote for him at this point (considering we are left with RINOs) if he wasn’t so nutty on Iraq.
Which gate would that be? I didn’t think we even had a fence.
Why would Paul quit? He’s still bringing in millions of dollars and has tons of grassroots support. He came in 2nd place in two consecutive caucuses. Kucininch never had the type of support that Paul has, so the comparison is disingenuous.
>>Someone who just didnt know when to quit.
Why? He has plenty of money, and ideas born of conviction rather than focus groups. This is more than can be said for McCain or Giuliani.
Everybody says they want SC justices that hold an “original intent” interpretation of the Constitution, but nobody seems to want politicians that practice it.
Hey you - I remember when you posted that stupid Ron Paul Revolution picture of Paul with the words "OVER" over the reverse LOVE part, with Paul sitting alone in that chair.
Are you ready to eat some crow?
I said it’s 2008, a metaphorical gate of course :-)
Paul does not believe in sugar coating any issue. I have to admire him for that. He keeps the passion and does not shed a tear if he suffers a loss. He keeps his focus and works the rest of the crowd no one wants, because they are considered not important enough in voting/delegates/poll numbers for the superstars. I loathe the fact knowing I might vote for a candidate I am not strongly in favor of just to keep Obama, Clinton or Edwards out of office.
Yep, exactly. That's what they do in socialist countries, where they call it "Central Planning."
