This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:
"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of Americas industrial base."
"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.
This falls right in line with what someone else on FREEP was arguing, that Hunter was an anybody-but-Romney man.
Jesus Christ Himself could endorse Huckaliar OR Juan and they would STILL not get my vote!”

If Jesus Christ endorsed Huckabee...he WOULD get my vote.
Actually, when it comes to illegal immigration, I believe they ALL (with the exception of Hunter and Tancredo) had an epiphany ... about the time the Capitol Hill phone lines melted down over the McCain-Kennedy bill.
Huck has assuredly changed his tune on that issue ... but so have the others. He has not changed on being staunchly pro-life, pro-Second-Amendment. His fiscal record in Arkansas is mixed ... too much big government for my taste ... but also pushing some broad-based income tax cuts (which no Socialist would do).
And supposedly all this makes him the "devil in the flesh" ... while Romney is now the great conservative hope ... and Thompson (co-sponsor of the McCain-Feingold censorship bill) and Hunter (who voted for the Medicare Prescription Drug boondoggle) are pure as the driven snow ... I don't buy it.
Does anyone notice that none of the candidates like Mitt Romney?
You do realize Huckabee thought abortion should go to the states and only changed when he decided to run for President?
This explains why Fred dropped out!
He found out that Hunter was going to endorse Huckabee and it put him in the hospital with his mother!
It’s all Hunter’s fault!
That makes as much sense as anything else that’s been happening lately...
Here’s three reasons to vote for Romney, (maybe not the best but reasons):
1. Judge Robert Bork endorsed Romney (SCOTUS)
2. Tom Tancredo endorsed Romney (illegal immigration)
3. Romney’s economic package (all of it’s very good) but especially dropping the corp. tax rate from 35% to 20% and if anyone knows anything about economics, dropping the tax rate is a good idea.
4. Probably the most competent/talented in the bunch
LOL! Tancredo->Romney, and now Hunter->Huckabee ... I love the sound of FReepers’ heads exploding in the afternoon.
It’s all a factor. I do tend to care more about how the campaign is conducted than some people do. I like candidates who seem to focus on winning by pushing a better agenda rather than playing gotcha with their opponents.
But I should become more familiar with Huckabee’s positions on the issues.
BTW, I’ll have to say that as much as I disliked all the attacks on Romney, perhaps there is a silver lining. I spent so much time researching his positions and finding quotes and debunking all the nonsense that I probably know more about Romney than I’ve ever known about any other candidate in my life.
I think I could give his speech.
The Fair Tax leaves open the implementation of an income tax on top of it. It has happened in other countries where they’ve tried it.
Can you please inform me of the specific liberal laws Mitt Romney passed as Governor of Massachusetts.
Not the PC statements he made two decades ago during a debate.
But the awful non-conservative legislation he passed.
(And please don't include the items the Dem-controlled Massachusetts legislature forced into legislation, by over-riding Romney's veto)
I just feel it’s more about NOT endorsing Rooty McRomney. Like a voter might choose a protest vote. Just my take.
He is a great man from what I know.PERSONALLY.
I know several Democrats who are great men...but Hunter is a corrupt career politician.
When I say corrupt I am not saying he is personally corrupt...or on the take. I am saying he is totally corrupt politically. He IS WASHINGTON.
You understand what I mean?
What the...!!!
Just waiting for Thomspon to endorse McCain...
They can all bite me. I’m voting for Ron Paul.
If Huckabee had half the money of the ‘establishment’ candidates, the race wouldn’t even be close. The GOP is actually raising a lot of money now (Thank you, Mr. President). If Huckabee gets one more momentum shot and win, he will have plenty of money to win in Nov.
I believe the press is far more in favor of Mitt Romney, treating his religion with kid-gloves (until the general election), than Huckabee, where a bookshelf made headlines for its shape, and MSM debate questions often focus on difficult questions with Christianity, and there is no focus on difficult questions with Mormonism.
NPR, USATODAY and TIME, the core of the liberal media, have all started promoting Romney after polls came out indicating 47% of people will vote against Slick Mitt.
Oh please yourself,
McCain is Mr. Amnesty, Giuiliani ran a sanctuary city, and Romney didn’t crack down on the sanctuary cities in MA when he was governor. None of the candidates in the race have clean hand on the immigration issue. At least Huckabee is now campaigning on a conservative immigration platform and I can trush him on abortion unlike any of the other three candidates. He is also the only candidate to have expressed concern about China’s trade policies or given any indication that he is not totally onboard with NAFTA and the WTO. So, at the end of the day Hunter looked at all the bad choices and picked the least bad. Originally, I was leaning towards romney but I am leaning more and more toward Huckabee if for no other reason than to spite the Republican establishment that seems determined to jamn socially moderate (read liberal) Republicans down our necks.
Loser troll
