This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:
"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of Americas industrial base."
"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.
It is probably true.
I think he made the right choice.
He always looks out for whats best for the USA.
Huckabee has been mischaracterized as a ‘liberal’.
Hunter and Huckabee are from the same conservative mold.
Funny you should say taht- even Byron York was so surprised- he called Hunter’s office TO BE SURE IT WAS TRUE.
More on Hunter/Huck [Byron York]
The endorsement of Huckabee just doesn’t seem to fit, given Hunter’s national-security orientation, concern about China, all that. I thought it seemed so odd that, when I got the email a few minutes ago, I called Hunter’s spokesman to make sure it was right. It’s not huge news Hunter got all of 1,048 votes in the South Carolina but a number of conservatives who paid close attention to the race liked Hunter, and they usually weren’t the sort to support Huckabee.

None. Shows he is a typical Californian. Not too smart. By shutting up at lease he would still seem intelligent.
Wheee.
Candidates and their supporters who expect voters to be smart are a lot more ignorant than the average voter.
Well, this is definitely his Harriet Myers moment.
Nope. What he proposed was letting the children of illegal aliens in Arkansas, who had no say over where they lived and whom the state is required by federal law to educate, be eligible for state college tuition breaks provided they spoke English, had been in the schools since grade one, maintained A-level grades, and followed the rules to become US citizens. This was, of course, a very small pool, maybe 50-100 a year. The idea was that they were so Americanized, they'd never fit into Mexico, and it was a waste of state resources to have to educate them for 12 years, then say, "No, you can't go any farther, now go get a job mowing lawns instead of becoming a productive, tax-paying citizen." But the point is moot because it never became law anyway, it was just a proposal.
Like most of the charges against Huckabee, it was taken out of context, distorted wildly, then put through a partisan media amplifer turned up to 11. Hunter knows the difference between reality and the Club For Growth's bought-and-paid-for garbage. A lot of people around here don't. Hence, all the exploding heads and their sudden realization that, OMG, Duncan Hunter is also "a tax-loving, illegal-immigrant-coddling SOCIALIST!!!" Couldn't possibly be that they allowed themselves to be swayed by misinformation from loud partisan sources, and then, like Leacock's famous knight, rode off in all directions.
And you base assumption that on.........
I thought your source was “scrappleface” or something at first. Wow...just.......wow.
I am not stunned by Hunter endorsement of Huckabee. Huckabee is solid on the social issues (pro-guns, pro-life, etc) and they both want the Fair Tax. Hunter called Romney, Rudy G, and McCain the Ted Kennedy part of the Republican party also Romney in a debate stated that he did not think a border fence was really necessary while Huckabee has been supportive of the border fence despite his failures on the immigration issue as governor. Romney by the way raised fees on everything in Mass. which is a tax but it seems only Huckabee gets any slack for raising taxes I think Romney has better spin doctors than Huckabee. I have not decided on who I will vote for but I am not yet ready to buy into Romney is conservative and Huckabee is a socialist when looking at there record they are only different in that Huck is a better social conservative while Romney is the better fiscal conservative.
A 20 plus year career as a professional politician has alreadt done that. I'm sure the dozen people that voted for him in the primaries are scratching their heads.
That seals it...I hope Romney can get a win in Florida this weekend.
I would rather vote for Hillary or Obama than the Huckster. Why? Because after four years of Hillary/Obama, there's a really good chance that the masses will see the light and elect a Republican House, Senate, and POTUS (or hopefully, at least two out of three). If the Hucketer wins, I foresee the RAT's winning the POTUS in 2012 and controlling Congress for a generation.
And to endorse the Huckster? Darkness overcometh the land of conservatism. Tis sad. So sad.
What are you talking about?... Without knowing Duncan would endorse Huck I was already leaning toward him!... So I am delighted.
I know that some people have tried 'linking' Thomsom/Duncan as if their principles were identical. The are not! 'Duncanistas' never bought it. For the same readon FT heads never accepted Duncan..... Because they are DIFFERENT.
I know that many here in FR paint the Huck as a 'baby-killer' :)... but I don't buy it... we have plenty of time find out the 'real truth.' Some here are 'fantical' against him and that makes me suspicious...
I am primarily a SOCIAL-CONSERVATIVE and very proud of the title. Social-Conservatives are 'conservatives' who care about the culture (values) besides simply fiscal / ecomic principles. Yes MONEY IS IMPORTANT but is not the ONLY IMPORTANT thing. The culture, our values are very important too.
“I cain’t quit you, Duncan Del Mar.”
“Nor I you, Mike Twist!”
“If you pair of deuces are lookin’ for work and are through `stemming the rose’,
I suggest you get your scrawny asses in here pronto.”
`Brokeback GOP’, a rump-wrangling good show, rated R.
Reagan could come back from the dead and endorse Huckabee and people here would just lose respect for Reagan.
I guess Hunter was not as much of a conservative as everyone thought.
