This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:
"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of Americas industrial base."
"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.
That all assumes that Huckabee is the nominee and wins the general. HUGE assumption. Actually, a downright scary assumption.
Wonder what pissant will think of this? Really comes as a shock to me! Course his 1% might put Huckachuck over the top!
Interesting. Time for a 2nd look at Gov. Huckabee.
The folks talking about the appointment of judges gave me some food for thought.
As others have pointed out, you can cherrypick the “conservative” parts of each candidate left and have a decent candidate. But each on his own? Hard to compute.
However there are really 3 big issues to me.
1) If the “big thing” goes down with Iran which one wouldn’t freak out? I would rank Rudy #1 there. McCain IMO would probably be better than Romney and Huckabee in that case if he isn’t too senile. But I could be convinced otherwise.
2)Illegal Immigration. I don’t trust anything any of them left have to say on this. I have a feeling what would actually happen is NOTHING..with any of them. If you put a gun to my head, I would suspect Romney MIGHT be best simply on economic reasons.
3)Judges. Which one of them is likely to appoint the most conservative judges? By default it is probably Huckabee, because of the Pro Life stance. Rudy and Romney probably aren’t going to insist on a certain level of “conservativeness” and McCain is an enigma on many different issues. The issues Huckabee is wobbly on don’t really play into a judge choice (for the most part).
So even looking at my 3 top concerns, I am still left with nothing to separate.
But one thing remains, I will vote for ANY of them over HRC.
But when Hunter didn’t endorse Thompson, many thought it was because Hunter had decided not to endorse anybody.
If he WAS going to endorse somebody, Thompson certainly was sincere, a true conservative, and understood the problems with China, right?
Now I really want Fred to endorse McCain, just to stick it to both McCain and Huck.
POPPED SQUIRREL!!!! ROFLMAO
That has got to be the reason, they can eat “popped squirrel” together.
Have you noticed your language has been deteriorating the last week or two? :p
My opinion of Huckabee just tanked!!
Yeah, right? Why does anyone think why he was so low in the polls.
Wow, what a team. It makes as much sense as anything else we have seen lately!
LOL

ps And that includes George Bush and Duncan Hunter. - Tom
Heh! I’ve allegedly had PMS for the past month. HAHAHAHAHAHAA!
Did this come from the Onion or Scrappleface?
If so, we lucked out big time that this guy didn’t get any traction.
If he can’t see through Huckabee, he won’t fair any better with Putin.
I know I was 1000 miles away on my couch, but I seem to remember the Huckster expressing his support for tuition breaks for illegal aliens during the first debate.
Hunter was actually at that debate, was he asleep?
Oh, well. I liked Hunter, but his endorsement means niothing to me.
Same here.
Huck? hahahaha. You have NO cred whatsoever
I’ve read enough FredHead threads lately that I believe I’ve perfected the reasoning:
-—Hunter really likes Mitt
But
-—Die-hard Hunter supporters insisted on writing his name in
So
-—Hunter needed to alienate them so they won’t waste their vote on him.
Therefore
-—Hunter p***’s them off by endorsing Huckabee (knowing they won’t do it)
Voila!
-—Hunter fans, appalled, don’t vote for Hunter, move to Mitt.
See. That’s how it works. Oh, and he’s in cahoots with Fred. If this works they’ll come up with some bizarro way to p*** off the FredHeads. (Though, if they weren’t mad about the way he dropped out, will anything make them mad?)
Think people, think. All candidates have an array of positions. If you analyze Hunter’s array and Huck’s array, the spots that coincide are obviously the most important postions to Hunter.
You thought you knew him, but you didn’t.
This is also a good lesson in politics. Few politicians think like voters. They are a club to themselves. Just as you have friends (even spouses) that are liberals, they have political allies that don’t agree with most of their positions. Using such allies is how things get done. Which is why the country always takes a middle course in general, it just leans a little left or right from time to time. Mostly it leans left from my perspective, but then, I’m a righty.
Thank you for a sensible post. Maybe the fact is that Duncan knows the real Mike Huckabee, warts and all, not the caricature we have fabricated in our little FR echo chamber.
