Grandma Arrested At McDonald's Called Officer 'Evil,' Report Says
MSNBC ^

CLEARWATER - The 75-year-old grandmother who was arrested Thursday at a McDonald's on a charge of disorderly conduct gave an officer lip, according to a police report. Jean Merola swore at the officer and said, "You are an evil man. Your wife is going to divorce you. Your kids probably hate you too. You are going to hell," according to the report.

Officer Matthew Parco was behind Merola in line and had received his drink; he asked her to move up so he could get around her but she didn't respond. Parco spent about 20 minutes asking Merola to move the car before she was arrested.

I don’t understand why so many people feel they have a right to be mean, impatient, and inconsiderate to the point where someone they perceive as “in their way” deserves to be arrested by the police. You’re asking the police to enforce YOUR selfishness.

You guys who enjoy being rude and abusive will get yours someday.

And if you block me in at a drive-thru for 20 minutes, and your car will be a lot thinner.

No one was blocking anything.

She was blocking the the path from the drivethru window to the street so that no other cars could exit the McDonald's parking lot.

Google's satellite map reveals that the area she was blocking was the exit point for both drivethru customers and regular customers exiting the McDonald's parking lot.

But the dumb cop had no patience and no brains.

He was quite patient - he gave her 20 whole minutes to move her car one foot.

That's approximately 1000 times longer than was required.

I'd say it was intelligent of him to wait long enough for her to prove what an unhinged jackass she was before he took her in.

I.m guessing here, since I don’t know the layout.
...........................
Granny car at window.
cop get served by outside runner.
cop can’t swing out, cuz cop has one inch clearnce from front,
about two feet in back.
...............
granny is anxious, does not want to move ‘ahead’
of the (food supply) window,
fearing to be pushed up from the back, thus not getting
food already paid for.

Say Hi, I don’t know him but dream of being so well connected.

" he asked her to move up so he could get around her"

Just going on the evidence presented and apparently verified by the manager at the store. He asked her to move up because he could not get around her.

Not saying this was handled properly, but I wouldn't champion her as anyone's hero.

You ARE being facetious in your post, right? I mean NOBODY could be serious when posting the above! 20 minutes times a couple of dozen people who were probably on lunch breaks, trying to get to class, or off to meet someone at an appointment! Good Lord!

And we thank you.

Only if the officer issues a legal command.

And he did.

People in a place of public accomodation are required by law to observe the rules of the road and to obey the traffic directions of a peace officer.

I see the selfishness every day and that’s why I enjoy being a hermit.

Based on your responses on this thread, if I'm ever in your neck of the woods I'll enjoy the fact that you're a hermit as well

“Help me out with your logic. If the cop wasn’t there, then it was ok for the woman to block the drive-thru?”

Put it this way; was it ok for her to wait for the product she had paid for to be delivered? Yes it was ok. IF MD cannot deliver the product they are offering in a timely manner they need to either refuse the order OR ask her to park and enter the building to place the order.

IMO she has a legal basis to receive what she paid for. Doesn’t matter if it was a $2 french fry or a $3000 Plasma TV.

Or since she’s old should we tell her to wait in the back by the garbage bins?

I think “guessing” is the keyword. I’m amazed at all the speculation that goes on in one of these type of threads.

She was well within her rights

No, she wasn't. There is no "right" to obstruct the flow of traffic.

and as a dignified human being

A dignified person does not say the things she said about the officer's family. Only gutter trash speak like that.

does not wish to be pushed around.

She was pushing others around by rudely blocking them in.

I imagine the younger men posting on this thread are the same ones who are rude to me on a daily basis if I am perceived to be “in their way.”

And here you reveal that your argument is not based on the facts of the matter, but because of your emotional identification with the perpetrator.
