Romney is clearly the optimal choice at this point. The end of a campaign is always painful for supporters. Folks have to assimilate and process the new configuration.

It is traditional for campaigns to pick up at least a few of the ended campaign’s people. Romney is the only one with money to do that.

Well, least sub-optimal anyway.

Why Romney? Why not back Paul, or Huckabee, or any other whack job running as a conservative?

Just because the candidate has an R after their name doesn’t make them optimal, or conservative.

If the party doesn’t want to put up a credible candidate, I don’t have to support it.

“Romney is clearly the optimal choice at this point.”

Ditto....

I don’t personally care for Romney all that much, but the Pope will get married, and invite Muslims and Jews to Celebrate his wedding with a Pork Chop Feast before I vote for McCain, Huckabee, or Guiliani...

Romney is the only one with money to do that.

Romney is the ONLY candidate who makes sense, and the only won with winnability.

Put Romney and his wife and family alongside sHrillary or Bomb-o Brack-A, and Romney just LOOKS like a winner before even opening his mouth.

With his intelligence, business smarts, and conservative promotion - Romney will win over the majority of Americans.

Sorry Owen, I respect your decision, but Romney is not a conservative by my standards and he will NEVER get a vote from me. It is quite irritating to see folks suggest he is and, ‘...ask folks to come on home to Romney’ in effect.

I wouldn’t come on home to stay in the democrat party, and I will not come on home to support a man who agrees with them more often than I can stomach.

The narrowing field is bringing agreement among the Freepers. I started out with Giuliani, abandoned him for Romney. Now Fred’s out, and hopefully his supporters will coalesce around Romney. If so, then it was a round about route, but we got there.

As long as it’s not McCain or Huckabee, I’m still a Republican.

"Romney is clearly the optimal choice at this point."

Sorry Owen. I see nothing 'optimal' in Romney. Dismal yes, optimal no.

I would be ok with a Romney/Thompson ticket. There isn’t another candidate that I can see myself voting for. I told my husband that if it ended up being Huckabee or McCain, it would be the first time ever for not voting for a president.
No third party will do and I’ll just about never vote D, unless they were a Conservative Dem, which I just about don’t think is possible these days.
