Carl Cameron says it'll become offical sometime later this week.

Oh well, we're doomed. Let's hope it'll be minimal damage until 2012.

Damn!! Oh well, I guess this simplifies things. I can support Romney. He will be notably better than McCain or the Witch. I think most Fred supporters will switch to Romney.

And let's face it: even Fred had some weak spots (too cozy with McCain, Campaign Finance, moderate pro-life position) There really was no terrific candidate this time, besides Hunter. This election cycle is just going to suck for us.

Sometimes you have to define success as "avoiding the worst." Uninspiring, but I will do anything to keep McCain from being the nominee or the Witch from returning to the White House.

When faced with the real prospect of another Klinton in the White House, I'll bet many will pull the lever for the "R," in spite of what people now say.

Paul as flawed as he is, is the closet thing to a conservative left in the race.

Last straw. I no longer have a conservative to vote for in the GOP.

If this has to do with his mom, then everyone of us, even those who have trashed Fred left and right, should respect his decision, as family ALWAYS comes first.

Godspeed to you, Fred. I am proud to have voted for you and contributed to your campaign. If you get one vote from Michigan in November, it will be me writing your name in.

“In other news, police in dozens of cities and towns across America are investigating mysterious ‘heads exploding’ deaths. These deaths occurred with the victims sitting in front of their computers, logged on to a website called FreeRepublic.com, and viewing what is commonly called a thread on the site titled ‘Fred Thompson quits.’ “

In other news Thompson supporters heads exploding were followed immediately by Zombie type creatures arriving on the scene with I'm a Pualie moonbat signs.

I think the States that had early Primaries, and allowed Independents to vote for a Republican nominee are to blame for this.

Yup, it’s true what you said about Hunter. It was only a matter of time before this happened. The writing has been on the wall, it is a shame though. I liked both Hunter and Fred, but always knew deep down it was more of a symbolic thing.

What! Who are we going to vote for now? This sucks.

Huck can't beat Hillary. Romney has the money to got the distance but I'm not sure he can beat Hillary either. Rudy is not even an option for social conservatives given his pro-choice stance. McCain thinks Americans won't and can't work for $50 an hour picking lettuce. It looks real bad right now for having another Republican take the White House. Romney appears to be the only one left that might have a chance while still being somewhat conservative.

“Conservatism in the GOP doesn’t die with any particular candidate. Fred, as it turns out, was an incredibly poor vehicle to attach anything to. But that doesn’t mean that we are done. We will live to fight another campaign cycle and hopefully we will find somebody good next time, or, ideally, several good guys and let the best man win. Being right on the issues is not enough. You have to be able and willing to campaign. And Fred was NOT the man in that regard.”

I have a Fred 08 coffee mug. He was my candidate. His ideas were all good, are still good. He just didn't get out there and campaign. Sad.

Support Romney and ask him to choose Duncan Hunter as VP.

Fred was a great candidate, a great conservative candidate who didn’t play by the MSM rules and got burned. I will miss him in the race and I hope he jumps back in if we have a brokered convention.

Give Hillary some thought. If she changes her party affiliation she’ll find a following on the right. Every other democrat hiding behind the skirt of conservatism has.

Bull crap. We are not doomed.

A presidency of Mitt Romney would be BETTER than 4 years of Hitlery or B. Hussein Obama or John McLame. Those three have megalomania, inexperience and pacifism out the REAR.

In a REAL sense, we are at 1976 again...do we choose a President whom some of us see as imperfect (Gerald Ford/Mitt Romney) or do we allow a real piece of CHEESE WHIZ to become President (Jimmy Carter/the 3 Stooges I mentioned earlier)?

Frankly, America would've been better with Gerald in office--the United States would not have been made to look impotent with Islamic facists in Iran, we would not have had double digital inflation and unemployment, either.

We all know it hurts.

I appeal that you folks think about Romney NOT in the context of “advancing the Conservative agenda” because I know you all don’t believe he will, but rather in the context of what is his image and what is very likely, or certainly true. Uber competence.

He was valedictorian of his undergraduate school. That means he was top of the class. He simultaneously worked on and received a law degree AND an MBA from Harvard. My recall is he did both in the top 5% of his class.

I submit for your consideration that uber competence in 2009 is more important than “advancing the Conservative agenda” because, simply, a Democratic Congressional majority will allow no agenda of any kind to come from a GOP President, no matter who he is. All that can happen is dilution of the left wing agenda. A slowing of it. I submit that a strong stalwart conservative would galvanize left wing hatred and generate veto overrides from that larger majority they will have then than they have now.

A genius or near genius inclined if not powerfully rightward, then at least somewhat rightward of the Democrats will be more effective stopping that.

So that’s my case for Romney. He is rightward of McCain and smarter than McCain in the financial area, which is now looming as the biggest challenge ahead. Huckabee . . . intellectually, does not play in the same league. And Guilliani is essentially overtly pro Choice.

We welcome your thoughts in considering Romney after you have come to acceptance of the unpleasant news.
