“PUH-ease, that kind of hyperbole on a supposedly conservative website is getting really tired. You think ONE AND A HALF PERCENT INFLATION is bad?? This is NOTHING, it’s STILL a pretty damned robust economy.”
Tell me smartie pants.
What is included in the inflation number... and what’s left out of it?

How is having a central bank, rather than the market, setting interest rates capitalist? I've always wondered about this. How can one trust the Fed to fix problems it created.

Soon well be using dollar bills as toilet paper. No matter how worthless they become, I think they'd have to make the dollar bills a little softer too.

I asserted no such thing. You’re getting me confused with someone else.

Anti-capitalist FReepers deeply saddened. So has Central Planner Ben Bernanke ever spent a single day of his life in the private sector?
Didn't think so.

Even at a trillion $ it'll be a great deal. Or would you prefer Iraq's oil money and future were devoted to supporting global terrorism or a militaristic dictator? There aren't any other choices in that region -until now.
Yes, there are terrorists and Al Queada in Iraq, just as in most Arab nations but only in Iraq do they fight for their existence and are killed on a daily basis.

You seem to have some market savvy. My 401K is heavily into global stocks, about a 70-30 mix.
Should I re-balance at this time for more domestic stuff? Or just ride it out...?
I have a moderate allocation, which Schwab defines as 35% Large Cap Equity, 10% Small Cap Equity, 15% International, 35% Fixed Income, 5% Cash or Equivalent. (Sorry for the caps, but I copied it from their site). So far, the DOW has lost about 16% from its peak of ~14,300. My portfolio has lost ~5.5% from my peak. Of course, I'd like to have lost less, but since retirement is a decade or two out, I'll ride it out.
Now might be a good time to start buying in, slowly - using dollar cost averaging in case we fall even futher this year.

What effect will this have on the value of the dollar?
Another deflated dollar pay cut for you and me, of course!

Most regular Americans dont play the stock market, but invest in safe CDs
I would guess that the majority of households have at least one 401K account and that most of those with 401K accounts have some portion of their money in the stock market.

Actually, Saddam was killing Al-Queada terrorists as well - they wanted to overthrow him as well. Al-Queada’s Iraqi “base” was in the Kurdish area of Iraq.
Saddam = Sunni
Al-Queada = Shiite.
