Who Should Get the Conservative Vote? (Evangelical for Romney)
News Blaze ^ | January 21, 2008 | Eddie Huff

Posted on 01/21/2008 4:45:42 PM PST by Romneyfor President2008

I was in El Paso, Texas over the Christmas holidays when a pastor and dear friend told me he had expected me to write something about the upcoming Pesidential elections, and particualrly about Mitt romney. I have actually been working on something on this for about 6 months, I have just not felt the time was right to share it. Well I now feel the tiem s right and here it is.

Let me say from the outset that these are my personal views and opinions, and are shared as such. They do not reflect upon any ministry or organization that I may be affiliated with. My views are also from a conservative or Evangelical Christian point of view.

In the Democratic Party we have 2 frontrunners and one candidate that will not quit while in the Republican Party we have 3 or 4 still battling it out. Of these seven leading candidates I have come to the conclusion that Mitt Romney is the best overall candidate from the conservative and Evangelical point of view. I have also come to the conclusion that the only reason that a conservative Christian would have for not vote for Mitt Romney is his Mormon religion, and that is a legitimate concern. So how would I come to the conclusion that Gov. Romney is the best guy, especially since I studied cult apologetics, in seminary, under the late Dr. Walter Martin? For those who do not know or remember him, Dr. Martin was author of The Kingdom of the Cults, which is the bible of cult apologetics. He also founded and hosted the syndicated radio program The Bible answer Man. Oh, and Walter was also my Sunday School teacher for 2 years.

Since Huckabee, Romney, McCain, and Rudy were all for illegal immigration and amnesty until about 2 weeks ago, that’s what we’ll get anyway.

Mitt has run a strong anti illegal immigration campaign. So either you are lying or you are a dope.

Exactly—I read what he said too. MeanWestTexan clearly (and incorrectly) implied DeLay would only support Thompson.

With Duncan Hunter out, I can’t vote for any of them because none of them are Conservatives. No matter how much lipstick you put on a pig, it is still a pig.

Check your facts. Romney said that the Bush Immigration plan did not amount to amnesty. Here is a quote of Romney talking about it:

"That's very different than amnesty, where you literally say, 'OK, everybody here gets to stay.' It's saying you could work your way into becoming a legal resident of the country by working here without taking benefits and then applying and then paying a fine."

I just saw Hillary on the Dim's debate. Her Universal Health Care plan is identical to the one that Mitt passed in MA. Not only did he pass it, but he praised it in one of the republican debates.

it is a primary election and we all get our vote. Unless the winner is a clear opponent of the majority of your views, I don’t know why you wouldn’t support the one that will do SOME of the things you feel are important. The other party is likely to offer NONE of the things you value. In addition, there is likely to be a Dem majority in both houses, basically rubbers stamping most legislation for a new Dem president. This includes judges.

Me three. I am not giving my vote away to Liberal Republicans anymore. I won't be a party to this charade.

Me Four. I am not going to be reduced to a single-issue voter (voting against the Democrat). I won't be a Dem lite.

From evangelicalsformitt....an interesting site!

FROM CINDY, AN EVANGELICAL VOTER IN FLORIDA
I suspect there will be more like her:

I first became aware of Mitt Romney over a year ago, when I heard him interviewed on one of the talk radio shows I listen to all day. I noted that he was articulate, concise, bright, and what he said was conservative. I spent a long time trying to figure out how someone like this managed to get elected as governor by the same state which elects Ted Kennedy over and over to the Senate. I am still trying to figure that out—it defies logic, and I am one who is used to thinking outside the box.
As the primary election got closer, I started to pay close attention, being a political animal. One by one, I eliminated candidates on the Republican roster for one reason or many. I spent the last month literally agonizing, on the fence between Romney & Thompson. But, each time I heard Mitt Romney speak, I was more impressed. He exudes character. He responds to his detractors, who have been fairly snide in their various attacks, innuendos & accusations, with respect and humility. I note that his sons, who seem to really love and respect their dad, are active in the campaign. As a mom, that is significant to me—I see several other Republican candidates who have adult children who are largely missing from the picture. One of Romney’s strengths is that when he talks about family values, you can see right before your eyes what kind of family values he means. His family exemplifies it perfectly.

I am a conservative, evangelical Christian. I want the most conservative candidate, and faith is equally important as conservative philosophy in a candidate to me. I will honestly admit that I was concerned about the Mormon issue— there are many pre-conceived notions of the doctrines of that church in evangelical circles. I watched the Faith speech several times, and I was very glad that Romney gave it. My sense was that he is as sincere in his faith as I am in mine. I started to consider that this country was founded by people who were fleeing religious persecution; it is a profound irony and tragic to me if this wonderfully accomplished man is disregarded by some Christians because they disapprove of the church he attends.

As for me and my house, we will vote for Mitt Romney. I believe he will be good for America.

Regardless, the 37% was impacted by Perot. NINETEEN PER CENT of VOTERS voted for Perot in 1992. As 1 person who voted for Perot, I can say that I voted for Perot because George Bush and his “no new taxes” pledge violation ruined him when it came to reelection.

But your definition of the Perot voters as the "starting gun" is a false & arbitrary one. A bigger factor than the "37%" being impacted by Perot is the 19% who were impacted by the Bush negatives--including the "no new taxes" pledge. (Otherwise you can never blame an election loss on the actual losing candidate--it's always the voters fault in your eyes)

That sentence is pure BS, it like Rush said today, a president should have a vision, not this I look , my family looks, my illegal gardener looks good, I deserve to be president.

It is one of the things I most despise about this rino, Willard and his supporters. Were is the leadership, where is the plan, I damn sure don't want to see more of the whinny liberal positions taken when he was governor. Dyed hair and BS, just like the Huckster.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste. I know you have one of the best minds of anyone I met. It's a shame that you put any of the Republicans on the ballot in the same league as the Dems. That's what you do when you stay home and not put that wonderful mind of yours to work and do the math.

8 years of Clinton/Obama is a terrible waste.

Thank you David for saying it the way it is. All of us here in FreeRepublic have opinions and I certainly respect them. But I can’t imagine how anyone with all the stakes in this election could even contemplate sitting it out. We have the radical jihadists trying to kill us. The war on terror and the border.

We have the Supreme Court which will definitely have at least one to two nominations in the next four years. Never mind all the judicial appointments the next president will make.

We all saw what the conservative base of the republican party can do. We stopped Harriet Myers and we stopped that crazy immigration reform fiasco.

We can stop mostly anything that comes along from a president or congress. Between talk radio and the American people we can do it.

Why then sit at home, like a spoiled child and let this country fall in the hands of these two liberal communists. Because that is what they are. Any way you slice it they will destroy this country or do so much damage, it will take us years to reverse their destruction.

As I said I respect all the opinions on this board but for the love of God go vote. Don’t sit at home. It is too important.

Does Mitt's plan for illegal immigration offer any form of amnesty? (yes or no)

"(Otherwise you can never blame an election loss on the actual losing candidate--it's always the voters fault in your eyes)"

It is generally the voters fault when a candidate loses, and not just in my eyes.

If you are listening to the Dem SC debate, you will get a grave reality check.
We have to vote.
We can’t let these communists ....any one of them get in office.

I agree, but your & mine agreement on "generalities" doesn't change the reality of what I said, which I'll repeat: "(Otherwise you can never blame an election loss on the actual losing candidate--it's always the voters fault in your eyes)"

And you conceded this by saying that it was generally--not always the voters' fault.
