Posted on 01/21/2008 8:13:53 AM PST by PurpleMan

Just heard on Laura Ingram (quoting Carl Cameron of FoxNews) that Thompson will drop out tomorrow.

Bad results, ill mother....

“Fred is gone. It’s over. Everyone can’t have their candidate. Conservatism has degrees. It always has.”

That is the problem with the Republican Party.. Compromise to “degrees”. Fred Thompson if you read his positions on the issues is in fact very conservative. More like what people have been trying to find since Ronald Reagan left office.

But because of detractors, media manipulation of reporting and non-reporting, and unfortunately Fred himself is starting the end of the campaign for him. I am saddened that I can not vote in Oregon until the 24th of May and will not be able to have him as a “viable” runner.

The Election is NOT a football game, but thats what everyone is trying to do with it. So you got, Rudy, Mitt, or John.. God help us.

Fox has not been pushing Huckabee. They edited out all of his best responses in the SC debate. Fox has been pushing the two anointed candidates, Giuliani and Romney. They never missed an opportunity to put down Fred or Huck.

Should the time come when Fred bows out, I will bow out as well. If I am directed by the parties to vote for a liberal(D) or vote for a liberal(R), I will write in a vote for a conservative. Screw the parties. Screw compromise.
>>

Well, like I said, there was FAR more of this in 2000 than now. It was post Clinton and there seemed to be outrage that “Clinton Lite” was being annointed by “the Party”.

Of course, there is no “party”. There are voters. If the voters don’t sway the way you want them swayed, it is YOUR fault. Your Personal Fault.

You did not construct adequately persuasive arguments. You did not spend decades becoming a skilled fund raiser and apply those skills on behalf of your guy. You did not take a job in the campaign and assert your superiority of philosophy and skill over your competitors.

So . . . the point is there is no cabal of shadowy “Party” to hate. The blame is your own, personally. If people are stupid and easily misled, you should have been able to lead them in your direction.

The reason Thompson failed is because he took bad advice. That advice was to get into an 850 million dollar race 6 months after his harder working competitors started.

And beyond the tactical realities of the moment, if you want to think philosophy, note that in a configuration where the Democrats have a LARGER majority than they do now, the last thing you want in the White House trying to stop them is a chest thumping idealogue, because such a President will galvanize opposition into veto overrides. What you want is a smiling, friendly, congenial, “reaching out” type who is fundamentally smarter than the other side and can water down and dilute all their initiatives to the point where they accomplish nothing while never, ever giving his own base something to cheer about — because of the simple reason that such cheering will galvanize veto overrides from the other side.

When you are faced with a majority against you the best weapon you have is genius, because that is what it will take to stop them. Resolve means nothing when you don’t have the votes.

You sell your soul at what ever price you want. My price hasn’t been met and resets higher by the minute.

Well said. Momma always said that trust and respect had to earned. None of these scallywags have what it takes to earn either!

Besides, I have already cast my vote for the best man running, Fred Thompson.

Fred had shown some real fire.

Show some real fire....show some real fire....show some real fire!!! Exactly what do you mean? Do you mean showboating like other candidates? Do you mean addressing issues like candidates should? Do you mean doing push-polls? Do you mean salivating at the thought of being President?

Good grief folks...this isn't American Idol!!!

Guess I should have read the entire thread before I commented...People really act as though this is just another episode of American Idol.

You're kidding, right? I guess you don't tune in to "Huck & Friends" every morning.

Rush has been going on today about him not endorsing any particular candidate. He even went so far to say he might be looking sitting out of it this year if the Republican candidate doesn’t fit his criteria of standards. I have heard him lightly entertaining this movement for the last few weeks, but this is the first time I have heard him say that he might sit out.

I heard the same thing.

He stills sound like he supports Fred Thompson — but is discouraged. The MSM has even gotten to Rush, I think.

You got that right. Fred thinks for himself and is not swayed by rumors and such. When and if Fred gets out, it will be his decision and his alone. Until I hear it from his mouth, I won’t believe it.

Prayers for his mother.

Oh well, I have always agreed with most of what Rush says, but am not in lockstep with anyone. I will still vote. I just wish something would happen to get everyone else out. This is not an election to sit out of, unless John Edwards wins the nomination. Then the Dems will have the same problems we have, but with women hating men and blacks hating whites.

Yeah. She does support Romney. I don’t. This is one election I guess I will stay home and let the world go to hell on it’s own :)

If Fred drops and Romney is the guy, I won’t be voting. Hunter is gone, and Romney is being pushed by the MSM.

I’d rather have a Democrat like Clinton in office so that if the world is going to go to $hit then AT LEAST A DEMOCRAT WILL BE IN OFFICE. I’m not going to let the reset button of civilization be pushed by an alleged Republican. I’d rather see A commie-crat do it.

And last week he said that of course he would vote for the Repub nominee (even McCain) to keep Mrs. Clinton out of the WH. I think Rush is just sick and tired of the Drive-Bys and pundits trying to influence the outcome of our primary.

I hope not! That leaves me voting for someone I don’t want.
First Hunter, now Thompson, sickening.

Even if Hillary wins and they reenact the Fairness Doctrine, Rush is set and would even gain listeners from those talk show hosts who lose their jobs. Neal Bortz and Michal Savage should be worried.
