President McCain
Renew America ^ | 01/21/2008 | Adam Graham

Republican voters are trending towards John McCain in recent primaries. What would John McCain do as President? Many of his supporters are ignorant of his record, or overlooking it. This column will project what a John McCain presidency would look like. If you still vote for him after reading this, the pain that comes on this country will be on your own head:

Social Issues: John McCain will appoint liberal judges to the federal bench. He will make the defense of his unconstitutional campaign finance law a priority. Those judges who will rule for that unconstitutional abomination are very unlikely to see the error of Roe v. Wade as that requires a strict constructionist judicial philosophy, which those who support McCain-Feingold would not have.

John McCain would fund Embryonic Stem Cell Research. The McCain Administration, by doing so, would not relieve suffering, as recent advances have been able to develop embyronic stem cells without destroying human life, but would rather lead to ennobling abortion as a way for women to take an unwanted pregnancy, get an abortion, and use the stem cells to help those suffering from various diseases. McCain would turn abortion into a noble choice.

Economic Issues: John McCain can be expected to increase the payroll tax as part of a social security fix. He will do nothing to reform our out-of-control federal tax system.

He will rightly strain the gnat of pork barrel spending, only to swallow the camel of overly excessive environmental regulation. Even now, Americans are suffering with higher gas prices, and consequently higher prices on everything, in part because of John McCain's refusal to support drilling in ANWR.

This would deepen as McCain would implement environmental proposals similar to Kyoto with the support of a Democratic Congress. This would further increase the price of energy and fuel for all Americans, and raise prices on everything else.

Sovereignty: John McCain has no respect for America's sovereignty. This shows most prominently in his support for illegal immigrant amnesty, but will show in other areas as well, such as his backing of the Law of the Sea Treaty and the International Criminal Court.

American sovereignty will retract under John McCain Administration in the name of expanding the powers of International organizations that have already failed us.

Havoc on the Republican Party: John McCain will take a wrecking ball to the Republican Party.

Republicans will lose seats under McCain as Republicans loss seats under Eisenhower (the president most similar to McCain), beginning with McCain's own Senate seat, which will be filled by the Democratic Governor of that state. With McCain's policies appealing more to liberal and moderate voters than conservatives, many McCain voters will continually elect Democrats to Congress. If McCain were to serve two terms, by the time he ended his tenure, Republicans would certainly have less than forty senate seats and less than 175 House Seats.

In addition to this, his amnesty for illegal aliens will lead to a host of new Democratic voters, as immigrants tend to be with the party of bigger government that provides more services until they move up to the middle class. If John McCain is President, the 109th Congress may be the last time in our lifetimes we ever see a Republican Majority in Congress.

These are a few of the likely consequences if John McCain is elected President. If Republicans love liberty, they will band together to stop this man. If they do not, John McCain is someone they richly deserve

McCain is only getting about 1/3 of the vote and hat was only in 2 states. His highest margin of victory was only 5.5 points. Romney is actually leading this race if you look at actual votes.

We need to beat MCCain like a piñata and hand his campaign back to his MSM handlers. In a nice way, of course. Go Mitt!

So, in other words, it does not matter if you elect McScream, Hillary or Osama Obama, you get exactly the same thing. Well, that is what Amerika wants now. Amerika wants to be socialist. They want everything free. We have gone from America, home of the brave to America, home of the free stuff. Our new national moto. This web site should be flourishing in the new Amerika, FREE Republic. Fits nicely in.

While I’m not enthused with Romney, he’d be a heck of a lot better than McCain and someone I could vote for. One poll is nice, it’ll be interesting to see if other polls confirm this.

Yes, I agree, Romney would be better, but NOT good enough! I think if Romney, McPainintheass, Guliani, Huckabee are nominated, you will see Obama or Hillary win the WH. Why should anyone vote for another Bush moderate, we've had 8 years of it already and people want change.

MCCain will never be President. Actually in South Carolina, 2/3rds of the voters voted for someone other than McCain.

Many were probably Dems and Independents. The McCain train is going to derail very soon.

I sincerely hope that the train derails soon. I am left amazed at the results from South Carolina.

The purported victory of McCain is merely an illusion reflecting a deeply fractured polity; he won a narrow plurality, not even nearly a majority.

But the McCain-Huckabee total is 63%. These two candidates are pro-"Comprehensive Immigration Reform" and they were the top two vote getters in a state that supposedly would vote for a candidate with a strong immigration policy. They did not.

Have you made a decision who you’ll support Travis? I think we’ll see a compassionate/economic-fueled amnesty in the first year regardless of who among all the remaining contenders becomes POTUS.

Any SOB who calls the traitor John F’in Kerry “my dear friend” will NEVER get my vote, not for all the gold and riches in the world.

Kerry is a scumbag, and so is McCain.

I just do not believe this line of thinking right now. People want change, but for some reason, they want really weird, freaky change. McCain is grabbing a butt-load of independent votes. I think Bush's "Compassionate Conservative" coin phrase is hurting the conservative movement.

The fall of the U.S. is on our doorsteps....all we have to do is not stop McCain from becoming POTUS.

Ironically, Romney is *less* conservative than McCain. The support of talk radio hosts towards Romney is really a stab in the back to conservative ideas.

There is no way in hell I’m voting for Romney, almost any of the other candidates is better than him.

Just watch Romney on his abortion and gay marriage positions and tell me with a straight face they are compatible with Republican values! His “conversion” to the pro-life side is *NOT* credible.

I’m disappointed in Glen Beck, he’s just following the herd in this case.

South Carolina voters quite possibly wanted strong controls on illegal immigration but didn’t vote that way because they prioritized other issues. I don’t think of illegal immigration as the most important issue confronting the country, and no President since Eisenhower has done anything substantial to stymie illegal immigration.

For the record, I don’t think Huckabee ever supported “comprehensive immigration reform” in its Senatorial propositions, and insofar as I can determine, he stands essentially for stasis in illegal-immigration policy but wants to build a fence and other structures to enforce some immigration laws at the border at least occasionally.

No, look, all these primaries have been about crossover indep. voters. Not real conservative repubs voting. The reason right now these rino's are leading is precisely because of crossover primary states. I think (more, hope) that will change with the next primaries.

I just do not believe this line of thinking right now. People want change, but for some reason, they want really weird, freaky change. McCain is grabbing a butt-load of independent votes. I think Bush's "Compassionate Conservative" coin phrase is hurting the conservative movement.

People don't want freaky change, they want good solid leadership, and the until a conservative steps ups and LEADS then you're going to get rino and moderate votes.

Bush's "CC" ruined the conservative repub party. Bush started the debacle!! As much as I appreciate Bush's values, I despise his moderate politics!

Mitt Romney brings a lot to the table. He’s been married to the same woman for some 43 years (he’s a Mormon too). He has five sons faithful to their marriages, no drugs, no criminal background, steeped in faith. He will work with democrats and republicans to reach the best possible solution to our nations’ problems avoiding stalemates like the past year. He presents a commanding presence when negotiating with world leaders. He will end McCainiac/Kennedy open borders. Work with him, folks. He will not be in that cesspool called massachusetts. Let’s give this ‘outsider’ a chance to clean up Washington as he promised.

He is being pimped by the drive bys...and the dems and indys like him because he is a RINO, but he lost the conservative base with McCain/Feingold, Gang of 14 and the hideous McCain/Kennedy AMNESTY BILL.

I remember him saying a Rosie remark too....
“Evangelicals are very dangerous”

It seems that around here (FR) there are more than a few whom both despise McCain, but still sing along with the little ditty, regardless of whether or not McCain want to "bomb Iran right away" as you put it.

Personally, I think bombing is a lousy idea. Lousy-er even, than feinting support for the Shia's in the South of Iraq, and the Kurds in the North, then practically abandoning them. Then, continuing under the Clinton administration, our enforcing no-fly zones, North & South (Iraq), then sending million dollar cruise missiles to blow up $50 tents in Afghanistan, etc.

All of it, stem to stern, top to bottom, first to last, all was directly leading to us going to war in both Afghanistan, and Iraq. It was building inexorably to that point, for YEARS.

I'm flabbergasted that the critics of either or both conflicts, cannot see that dimension of reality. They'd rather just blame George Bush? Ha. What about Operation Desert Fox, conducted by the Clinton Administration? That was the logical continuation, was it not? Which then, (after Desert Fox) basically left us very little choice, but to then finally remove Saddam and his regime from the picture.

Bomb Iran? No, not unless we intend on following through...and considering the horrors that would undoubtedly go along with all that...let's do everything in our power to NOT have to do such a thing...while also steeling ourselves to the possibility of having to do such a thing.

Rumsfeldian "light footprints", would not get it done, and keep it that way, I'm afraid.

Sorry for all the unasked for opinion, but bombing Iran is not a laughing matter, not when we get past the joking around part of switching the lyrics to "Barbara Ann".
