Should He Stay or Should He Go? (Fred)
The Corner at National Review ^ | January 20, 2008 | Kathryn Jean Lopez

Posted on 01/20/2008 6:57:50 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

An e-mail:

I see that some people (Adler, Geraghty) are calling for Fred to stay in the race. The practical consequence of Thompson's presence so far has been to hand South Carolina to McCain. It's seems unlikely that this dynamic will change in other southern states. All Thompson is managing to do is to split the conservative vote and clear the way for McCain.

Adler also makes the improbable claim that Romney has been revealed as a very weak candidate, even though the information is right there on The Corner that Romney has garnered more votes so far than anyone else in the race.

Lastly, Romney gets slammed for spending money. He is the only candidate running who is attempting to win or place in every state. Giuliani, who also has spent quite a lot, has abandoned most of the country. Fred made a minimal effort outside SC. I half expect a plea for campaign finance reform to follow some of these complaints that Romney is spending too much money. It's very strange.

UPDATE: Another:

Fred is "splitting" the conservative vote with Huckabee. Don't ask me why a conservative would vote for Huckabee, but without Fred, Huckabee would have won S.C. big. If all of Fred's votes had gone to Romney, he still would have been third. Fred should stay in. I'd rather see a brokered convention than Huckabee or McCain as the nominee before then.

If Hewitt were cheerleading any harder, he'd need pom poms.

WHAT!!!

Are you trying to say that Hewitt DOESN'T have pom poms? Come on, sure he does. All MITTens do.

“Lets get a grip.”

Grip this.......until my candidate ends it, it isn’t over. Some people put WAY too much ‘brain fart’ into matters that are completely outside of their control.

I have faith in my candidate (bet YOU can’t say that). Faith = let go & let God. He’ll do what he feels is best for the COUNTRY. I’ll support him in HIS decision.

I know a lot of evangelicals like myself who support Fred, and not a single one would vote for Huckabee

You could be right.... meaning Huckleberry supporters would vote for Fred if Huck dropped out, but maybe not vice versa.

He's the only one in the race speaking for conservatives and putting forth a bona fide conservative platform.

The only bona fide Conservative is no longer in the race.

“no matter how much you hate Romney surely he would be better than the other choices.”

I’m not totally convinced of that yet.

At this point it’s good to know I can plan on voting for Fred when he runs against Hillary or Obama.

I just finished listening to Fred’s SC confeesion speech.
It has never been about me.Ithas never even been about you.
I has been about our country.

It is all past tense. No going forward statement.

He is only running interference for John McCain at this point.

That is obvious to almost everyone.

That's right. Hunter has my vote because he has said many times that he is not a quitter and he's in it until the convention!

A Fred departure gives a big boost to Huckleberry.

True. However, Huck will be creamed in the end anyway. A stronger Huck, delays a McCain coronation. As distasteful as it may be, it is time to choose among those with a real shot, McCain, Romney & possibly Rudy.

______________________________________________________

God gives us the rope to hang ourselves with. He gave us His Son to get out of the mess we make of this life. He doesn’t give us presidents or we would have to blame Him for Clinton.

His decision was for us to obey Him, His decision as far back as Adam was to let us make our own decisions. I’m sorry that He won’t decide this election for us.

He didn’t select George Washington as our first president but He did raise up unusually good men at that time whom He trusted to do the right thing. If only now there were enough good, God fearing people in the country to do the right thing we would be ok. I think the level of righteousness is not going up but is going down. We may be in for a pretty bumpy ride.

It is possible that Huckabee is a good, God fearing man, but, he ain't the man we need as president. Truly, may the best man win.
