McCain Is A Train Wreck For The GOP
America Talks ^ | 1/20/08 | David Zublick

Posted on 01/20/2008 1:58:52 PM PST by AmericaTalks

John McCain's clinching of the primaries i n New Hampshire and South Carolina indicates that the GOP has serious problems. McCain is the least conservative of all of the Republican contenders, yet somehow his message appears to be resonating with disenfranchised voters.

McCain's win puts him in a position to trounce all comers in the Florida primary January 29th and Super Tuesday on February 5th. But his lack of the values conservatives espouse could spell disaster for Republicans who want to make sure that a true alternative to the liberal rhetoric of Hillary and Obama is offered.

Until now, there has been no frontrunner in the GOP race, with Huckabee winning the Iowa caucuses, Romney winning lower-profile Wyoming, Michigan and Nevada primaries, and McCain taking New Hampshire and now South Carolina.

Now admittedly Romney has the highest delegate count so far, but things could quickly change in the days ahead, which could spell trouble for those of us who wanted almost anyone but McCain.

How much longer Mike Huckabee will be able to hold on is uncertain. But Huckabee was counting on a clear victory from conservative Christians which he didn't get, largely from the undecideds. He's still a contender, but he is beginning to falter. Depending on how Giuliani does in Florida, his campaign could tank, and Fred Thompson is now on life support.

Which leaves us with McCain. He is a true war hero, and a fine man. But he is not a fiscal conservative, not a hawk when it comes to foreign policy, not a friend of those opposed to illegal immigration, and his campaign finance reform bill soured many in his party to anything else he might have to say.

Should McCain survive and become the nominee of the GOP, he will have truly risen from the dead. But like the old saying goes, his light at the end of the tunnel could be the headlights of an oncoming train wreck which might propel a democrat into the White House this November.

Rudy is doing just fine here from what I see

Originally pretty even, McCain will get a bump from SC, and dont forget its winner takes all. I have no confidence in Florida "moderates" like you do, apparently

If Mctrainwreck wins the nomination, I could just see the televised debate before us. Mcain looking old, tired and beaten and Obama, a Kennedy-esk looking young, energetic and strong contender. This is exactly what the dems need and want a Mctrainwreck nomination! GET OUT AND VOTE!

No, I must have just fallen down in my analogy. Was putting Mitt in the same category as the others.

Most of us agree.

But what would we do if it comes down to McLame or the Hilda beast in the general?

Agreed. If you look at the current FR poll, you can see that FReepers are gradually settling on Romney as the least bad of the candidates other than Thompson. Over a fifth of FR members are now supporting Romney.

If it comes down to McCain vs. Hillary, I'll vote against Hillary. However, if it comes down to Rudy vs. Hillary, I'll be forced to vote against Rudy.

It might be an ugly year.

Speaking of Medved, I made the mistake of listening to him for a few minutes last week.

Medved said that McCain was the only one who is telling us the truth about immigration.

Medved said that you cannot deport “12 million Americans”. I kid you not. He called the illegal aliens Americans.

McCain is a major train wreck. No way I will vote for him. If he is the nominee I’ll vote third party or do a write in.

Given McCain as the MSM candidate, what else can we do?

It would be a big help if the Thompson voters would pick another candidate. Voting for Fred only helps McCain at this point.

“McCain is a major train wreck. No way I will vote for him. If he is the nominee I’ll vote third party or do a write in.”

McCain’s train has not wrecked yet here in Florida, but it will on January 29th. Fred will do well here from the support I have seen. The debate Thursday will only help Fred and will knock out McCain and Huckabee. Giuliani has all his hopes on Florida, but time will tell on that. I just don’t think he will take Florida. GO FRED!

Medved's urging us to suck it up and welcome the illegal aliens is akin to telling a rape victim that since you can't stop her from being raped, she should just lie back and enjoy it.

The key to the FL primary would be where do Huckabee and Thompson voters go. If the NH and MI primaries are inat indiction, those who called themselves “conservative to extremely conservatvie”, broke for Mitt Romney. McCain and Giuliani split the “moderate” RINO vote. If Mitt can convince Thompson and Huckabee supporters to back in FL, then Mitt could win FL.

What a load of bravo sierra. McCain hasn't a conservative bone in his body. He gives lip service to the prolife position only, and consistantly campaigns for pro-abortion RINOs against prolifers. While the NY Slimes constantly hammered Guiliani while he was mayor of NYC, it does nothing but puff McCainiac on the editorial page. That ought to tell you all you need to know about McCain's phony "conservatism."

McCain must be beat, and it is possible to beat him. Remember, he does not have a lot of money, and Feb. 5 is going to require big bucks.

McCain’s determination to “get bin Laden” places shallow political theater within the heart of his campaign, and reveals that even on the issue of national security he has no value. Our real enemy is Wahhabi jihadism, not the latest sociopath prophet emerging from the Wahhabi/Salafi heresy.

Wahhabi/Salafi heresy not only justifies oligarchy, but also empowers stateless terrorism. This heresy considers Jews, Christians, Sunnis, Shi’as and secularists sub-human, legitimate objects for slaughter. These terrorists suborn traditional Muslim loyalties valuing family, tribe and country, and substitute limitless murder and destruction. Terrorist converts are not all stereotypical primitives, but also university graduates accommodating fanaticism within academic excellence in sciences and engineering. Hence, frightening capabilities emerge from fifty-year-old worldwide technologies and stockpiles for weapons such as Davy Crockett missiles firing 51-pound nuclear 0.02-kiloton warheads, and Astor torpedoes carrying Hiroshima size warheads. Chemical and biological agents can now emanate from dual-use facilities, and cottage industries.

State Department reports many African, Oriental and Asian countries becoming allies against Wahhabi jihadism. Yet they remember our pathetic responses to fifteen terrorist actions by four successive Presidents. Minimum penance demonstrating credibility obliges persistence for Iraq representative government. Credibility requires thwarting al Qaeda determination for Babylon to become the rallying point for the Caliphate.

Sustaining initiatives of African, Oriental and Asian countries brings Global War on Terror victory by frustrating plans, breaking alliances and fracturing organizations of Wahhabi jihadists into ever less effective units. Without cities, countries or armies they live out unnaturally shortened lives as pariahs. Sun Tzu would consider mobilizing allies to minimize our own bloodshed an extraordinary warfare achievement.

While McCain is less conservative than Fred Thompson, he's definitely more conservative than Giuliani, Romney or Huckabee.

LOL

Only in theory. In practice, he's more liberal than any but perhaps Giuliani.

He voted against Pres. Bush's modest tax cuts, for crying out loud!
