AP | Jan. 19, 2008 | Breaking News

Sen. John McCain won Saturday's South Carolina Republican presidential primary, AP projects.

Fox News and NBC News exit polls ranked the economy as the top concern among South Carolina primary voters, followed by illegal immigration, the war in Iraq, and terrorism.

Columnist and Weekly Standard Editor William Kristol commenting on Saturday's results on the Fox News Channel said that the Republican field is now winnowing down to just three viable candidates: McCain, Mitt Romney, and Rudy Giuliani.

I use to fear a replay of Dole with McCain.

However, Dole still was respectable during the good economy of the mid 90s.

McCain will be seen by as a relative outsider (yes, I know he has served in DC forever.) but don’t underestimate people not wanting another heir to a dynasty to preside over this country.

24 years of Bush/Clinton families if she is elected....politics as usual.

That would be a great campaign ad :)

McCain is the antidote for Clintonitus.

Facts are not propaganda.

Facts?

Yes facts. You consider poll results to be opinions?

I told you where to find the polls. Realclearpolitics.com. Here is the link. Go there and look up all the demographics you want. Of course, these are national polls. More compelling are state data. McCain is currently ahead or competitive even in some of the blue states. Pay attention: Norman Bates posts state head to head results regularly.

Second, look at the posts on this board and describe for me the Republican base support for McCain.

LOL. This board is not representative of the GOP base.

A dem friend of mine is so mind boggling. He used to live in Michigan and moved away to get away from their Governor. He said “ we can’t afford another Republican in the WH. It must be a democrat. He has the balls to call me and laugh about Fred losing SC.

Didn’t he vote for all of the judges put forth by Bush. He supported his SC nominations.

I agree and I have been emailing the media — all media this evening telling them they are totally misreading the GOP and GOP Voters if they think this is who we want for President of the United States... I suggest everyone better do the same to anyone and everyone they can think of before they shove the man down our throats with phony polls and pundits with an agenda that is not the GOP agenda.

It was predictable. In fact, I predicted it. Thune always was a Bush rape and incest exception Republican. Even voted for McCain-Feingold.

Thanks for setting the record straight.

McCain deserved this win, and I hope that when Thompson endorses him (and he will) his supporters will listen to what Fred has to say.

Polls are not facts. Your Maniacs ignorant is almost as amazing as your habitual unwarranted arrogance.

You people seem incapable of realizing that you need these peoples votes for to win. They have no need to vote for your political god. Frankly John McCain has show he has utterly nothing to offer Conservatives. His political record shows it.

You think running a worn out, broke tired old barely coherent DC Machine politician with a war record against the Clintonites with their $50 million war chest has a hope in hell of winning? Ever heard of Bob Dole?

10 months ago the only guy who could beat Hillary in all the polls was Rudy G. Where is he now? Are you people honestly dumb enough to think polls 10 months before a General Election can tell you who will win? Before any General campaign is even started?

Now let us look at that historic record.

Really tough for the party in the WH to win 3 elections running. Who has a better chance beating a Democrat Senator? Another Senator or someone NOT tied to the DC political machine?

Let us look at the historic record of the last 30 years.

1976 Carter ran as the populist outsider against DC. Carter Won.

1980. Reagan ran as an outsider going to DC to clean up the mess. Reagan won

1984. Old Machine politician and former Senator Mondale ran by the Democrats against Reagan. Reagan won.

1988. VP running on the Reagan legacy against a DC outsider barely won.

1992 DC outsider ran against sitting President. Outsider Clinton won.

1996 Old career Senator named Dole with a stellar war record ran against Sitting President. President Clinton won.

2000 DC outsider ran against sitting President's VP, outsider Bush won by a few hundred votes.

2004 Old career Senator named Kerry with a supposed stellar war record ran against sitting President. President won.

2008. The GOP Establishment plans to run an old tired worn out career Senator with a war record against the former 1st Lady or a 1 term Senator.

Based on that historic record just why would anyone be so hopelessly naive to think McCain has any chance at all against Clinton Inc? Ah yes, the magical "polling data" the same magic data 10 months ago who told you your only choice was Rudy G.

I cannot decide which is more amusing. The McCainaics almost total political ignorance, or their wholly unwarranted arrogance.

When Fred drops out, and I say when rather than if advisedly, I, for one, want nothing to do with Romney. He has never been a plausible candidate for the Republican nomination and he never will be, even if he wins it. I want no part of him or his candidacy and I very much doubt I stand alone in this regard.

The enemy within is more dangerous to America than a bunch of raghead nutjobs with blood in their eye.

Great thought. We face two enemies: within and without. The ultimate irony would be in a clash between the two: Bin Laden in a light plane loaded with explosives crashing into a podium with the 'Predestined One' placing her hand on the bible. Satan working in unpredictable ways.

Hunter dropped out earlier this evening, and Fred can’t be far behind. It’s over and done for a real conservative this time around. Better luck in 2016.

We're screwed, plain and simple.

By the time 2016 rolls around, we'll have 50 million illegal aliens in country, by then they'll have made them all legal to vote, and most all will vote liberal/socialist...

We're screwed.
