what in the hell are you thinking?

I'm thinking...well, what I said in my post.

As much as I regret it, those "dubious polls" all say the same thing: Fred has moved up, but not nearly enough. Is a miracle possible? Yes. But it doesn't look likely. :(

Given that, the most disastrous outcome would be a McCain victory. The media coronation train will be hard to stop.

Thus, I figure a Huck win in SC is the best we can expect today. Huck will never be the nominee. We can stop him in later states.

So, as I said before, that's what I'm thinking. Doesn't have anything to do with "letting the MSM" do my thinking for me.

Are we discounting Rudy? I think when he gets back in the game, the situation is going to muddy up considerably. Fred needs all the support possible, every vote to stay in the race; for I am thinking a brokered convention.

Trying to vote "strategically" is indeed a wasted vote.

I just don’t see McCain winning the nomination, regardless. It seems to me he tops out at 30-35% max. After that, too many folks despise him - I hope!

For me, it remains as it has for some time. If Huckabee gets the nod, I don’t vote for President. If McCain gets the nod, I vote for the democrat for President.

Likely no one can stop you by presenting counterpoints, or you wouldn’t have put your conclusion on FR. However, I need a clear conscience so here’s the counterpoint.

Fred Thompson cannot survive unless he does well in SC. How well, we don’t yet have nailed down. But better than “poorly or barely so-so”. If he does survive to fight later in other southern states where he might also do well, then we might have a conservative in the hunt come convention time, the way this thing is dividing up. If Fred goes away, that hope goes away.

This is your moment. It’s all you have. There is no tomorrow when all of these factors will line up for you with the stakes being what they are today. In addition to the conservative desperately needing your vote to stay viable, I have to say that Huckabee literally makes my skin crawl and he scares me to death. I could not in good conscience cast my vote for such as he in some shot in the dark response to perceived situations involving polls and stopping somebody down the line if not now, etc. And that comes from someone who deeply, deeply dislikes and distrusts McCain.

I’m a Hunter enthusiast and supporter. He’s a great, great man who is being sadly pushed aside and ignored. However, Fred is my second choice and if I lived in SC I’d have already voted for Fred, and THAT would be my way of stating my utter disdain for BOTH McCain and Huckabee, and my doubts about Romney.

You may be right. Hopefully Thompson will come in second. With McCain out Thompson can demolish Huck.

The Huckabee supporters who are begging folks to vote for Huckabee so McCain won’t win are desperate. They know that McCain won’t win even though the MSM has McCain ahead in all their news polls. Remember the MSM wants McCain first or Huckabee second to be our nominee. They know Hillary can beat either one. So folks who really like Fred but think they should vote for Huckabee because they think it will keep McCain from winning are foolish. McCain is being proped up by the media. He did not win SC in the past, and won’t now. And who would want Huckabee since he is just a pro-life liberal? Fred is the only conservative! I have hope that the folks in South Carolina who like Fred will vote for Fred! GO FRED!
