Plenty of conservatives actually supported McCain today, though.

Huckabee embarrasses me, personally (being at least nominally Republican).

Well I had it exactly WRONG before.

W R O N G.

I am glad to know that, because it is yet another meaningless exercise.

I cannot except that the Republican Party will ever nominate McCain.

“South Carolina wants somebody who’s tough on immigration so McCain and Huckabee are leading? Somebody is stupid.”

Hello,

Sorry to say, if any voter in SC is worried about the (huge and getting worse) illegal problem, and voted for either of these men, they are so past stupid, that there is no way to define stupid. I would say this regardless of my support for Fred, it is the definition of insanity to vote FOR what you are against.

It’s very early Fred supporters, don’t get sick yet:)

I'm so depressed already.....for two reasons.
1. is that Fred is not #1 where he SHOULD be....and
2. I can't believe this nation is turning RINO.

This year crossover Dems aren't a problem. Hillary and Obama need every vote they can get, and I don't know a single Dem here that cares less who the Repub candidate is. Most don't know who they are.

Good analysis.

The South Carolina Republican voters have made a fatal error, casting their lot with wacko Rinos McCain and Huckabee.

Unfortunately up here in Yankeeland the Republicans aren't any brighter.

:-(

You don’t get it... after tonight there is no coalition known as the Republican Party. It will fracture and die as we know it... if the exit polls are correct. There is no way that any other Republican but Fred could unite us... and divided we will fall... bank on it 100%! We may win the Congress and Senate... doubtful... but the Presidency (running a liberal) cannot beat the dims and independents that will vote for the beast. Rush Limbaugh stated this Friday... but others of us have been saying it here on FR for months. Any celebrations during these primaries will be fleeting at best. Doom awaits us just around the next turn.

“Yup. We wuz robbed. We’ll find out how it happened pretty soon.”

Because all the candidates treat McCain with kids gloves. Fred was the one who really needed to take McCain on - a close friend who believed that McCain’s vision for America is WRONG. But no one hammered McCain, instead they engaged in an infamous circular firing squad with each other. And the one man who no one bothered to take aim is, not surprisingly, probably the one who’s going to take the prize here. Fred has loyalty to his friend - that’s admirable. But if he truly believed McCain’s vision for America is not one conservatives should rally behind - he should have said so, and should have said so forcefully. If he had, things might have worked out very differently.

I don’t know if Romney really believes that or not. Who wants to take on the global warming bull while on the campaign trail....give the man a little credit.

You would have gotten the impression over the years that conservatives were a bit more into the idea of looking at candidates position more closely and were above fluff, PR, and image.

Please.

They are just as much into slick packaging as you average San Fransisco liberal.

Thanks SC for nothing.

I’m watching the numbers come in. Remember Fred said, at the beginning, something like he didn’t have a huge desire to be president, but was making himself available if people wanted him. He put everything he had into SC, worked the whole state, and his numbers right now don’t look good. This will tell him the people don’t really want him - that he can’t take any state, so I think he will stop if he is true to what he said at the beginning. I think that is the reality.
