We may be burdened with a tax increase. We may be losing jobs. We may be losing our homes. We've been stripped of half our delegates.

But we still merit a live thread, dagnabbit!

I am a conservative holdout in liberal Vermont. Here, GOP primaries are often raided by mischief-making leftists who vote for the weakest RINO, or at least the most likely to lose Republican. Vermont’s primary is setup like Michigan’s. Democrats and left leaning independents are allowed to grab a GOP ballot and vote to hurt the chances of a Romney or a Thompson. Many leftists will be likely to do so in Michigan because there is no contest to speak of on the Democrat ballot. Polling is next to impossible under these circumstannces. Exit polling may be of some use. Romney may win, and I hope he does, but he will have to do so against a headwind.

Here’s hoping: Mitt or Fred Wins. Mitt or Fred comes in 2nd. Who Cares comes in 3rd, and....the people of Michigan WAKE UP and relegate McLame to “also ran”.

According to early exit polls, >17%< of voters for the REPUBLICAN primary are Democrats attempting to manipulate candidate results.

I can’t imagine them voting for anyone but McCain. Unless they’re voting strategically for the WORST candidate. IT could be literally anybody at this point.

People are saying that economy is one of the most important issues for the voters in Michigan and those who go to the polls. Michigan's economy has been hit very heart as the unemployment is above 7 percent in the state.

More precise results of the Michigan Primary will come out this evening.

"Preliminary results from exit poll by Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International for The Associated Press and television networks. Partial samples in 40 precincts around Michigan of 873 voters in the Republican primary and 588 in the Democratic contest. Sampling error plus or minus 5 percentage points in each primary."

I’m for Fred, but if I lived in Michigan, I’d probably vote for Mitt, since Fred isn’t competitive there.

Fred’s only chance (and I admit it’s a slim one) is for the race to be thrown into turmoil, as a Mitt win in Michigan just might do. In that event, you’d have a Huck win in Iowa, a McCain win in New Hampshire, a Mitt win in Michigan, and a chance of a Fred win in South Carolina and a Rudy win in Florida. Can you say chaos?

Common wisdom says that a long battle for the nomination (possibly extending to the convention floor) would hurt the GOP. I think the conventional wisdom is wrong in this case. We’d be able to train our fire on the Dem winner (and I think either Hil or BHO will have it locked up by Super Tuesday), but the Dems won’t know who to fire back at for a while.

If, on the other hand, McCain wins tonight, he’d be odds-on for the GOP nomination, and odds-on for making Bob Dole look like a political dynamo by comparison.

Go Mitt!
