Looks like Ron Paul is eating some of McCain’s lunch! Fox earlier said he was going to draw independents.

I was getting ahead of myself, celebrating a Romney victory when i saw it was 39% to 30% but it looks like McCain is catching up. Hope this doesn’t go down to the wire. Was hoping for at least a 5% margin for Romney. But hey, I’ll take 1% as long as it’s a win for him!

This cross-voting crap is ridiculous! Many of the votes that would have gone to Mr. U have now gone to Shenator McLame and Huckleberry.

Don’t know but some blogs are already calling it for Romney with CNN as a source but it looks like there’s a way to go yet.

Romney said a few weeks ago on Meet the Press that Abortion should be left up to the states. He has the same stance as Fred Thompson.

Dirty secret: Huckabee said the same thing just a few months ago.

Isn't that the guy who used to trounce Bush in the polls all the time? I think his name was called Unnamed Democrat back then.

Maybe some of those Michigan Democrats are on to something! He would have been President for 8 years if they'd nominated him in 2000!

Its still much too early but if Romney actually wins even with all the cross-voting then McLame is TOAST.......as well he should be!

McCain was approached for comment, but snarled at anyone who might take away his ball bearings.

“If I were black and she dissed my favorite candidate I’d be ticked. Don’t know what I’d do, but I’d be really angry.”

So what do you think would happen if Fred chose JC Watts or Michael Steele as a running mate?

Hmmmm...that's a good question. I actually think they would cross party lines to vote for Fred and Mr. Watts or Mr. Steele.

Maybe I'm naive, too.

Fox, CNN and Drudge are only announcing preliminary numbers whereas in 2000 I believe they declared Gore the winner an hour before parts of Florida closed.

I suspect they know it will be difficult for McShame to catch up based on the exit polls but are cautioning it is far too early to call. Only 3,000 votes separate them at this point. The internals must be telling the candidates how they fare as McShame left for SC earlier today and Huckabee is getting ready to concede.

Early returns are usually mostly absentee ballots. The most common pattern is for some of the absentees to be counted first, in the interval between closing of the polls and opening of the precinct returns, then the clerks put the rest of the absentee ballots aside as the rush of precinct returns hit, then they get back to the majority of still uncounted absentees when they have more time.

In some states most of the absentee ballots are counted before the polls close and the majority of absentee returns are released first.

I have no idea which pattern Michigan follows. It might vary from one county to another - that is true of some states.

Hopefully some one from Michigan will tell us which of these models Michigan follows.

If I remember correctly, the RNC was going to strip half their delegates. No telling if they’ll follow through, though.
