Duncan Hunter -- Yes, He's Still Running

Lest you forget it, Rep. Duncan Hunter of the 52nd Congressional District of California is still running for president. In recent weeks, the Republican congressman's presence in the campaign has all but evaporated. He was barred from appearing at the New Hampshire debate moderated by Charlie Gibson and more recently was excluded from the Fox News debate in South Carolina.

But Hunter is still running for president, even if his campaign appearances have now been reduced to opening acts for the big players still in the game.

Last night, Hunter delivered a pro-family, pro-military stump speech at what appeared—by most measures—to be a campaign rally for Mitt Romney in Taylor, Mich., near Detroit.

Romney, who had been campaigning earlier in the day in upstate Michigan, was late to arrive. The crowd was getting restless. Kids were crawling on the floor, crinkling empty bags of potato chips, and unpeeling Romney bumper stickers and slapping them across their mouths. The press platform became a makeshift jungle gym for the impatient.

The local politicians passed a few minutes showing videos of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, designed to rally the Republican faithful. The videos were simple pastiches, involving spliced video cued up to catch the candidates in a state of double talk. Clinton aroused more indignation than Obama, but the overall reaction was somewhat muted. Then the lights came back on but still no Romney. So they talked about the horrors of the tax increases passed by the state's current Democratic governor, Jennifer Granholm. They talked about taking back control of the statehouse. By this time, around 6 p.m., an hour after the rally had begun, Romney was still missing, but Hunter had conveniently entered from the back of the auditorium, along with two women holding a massive "Duncan Hunter for President 08" banner. They shuffled off to the side wall and stood quietly. A few more local politicians said some additional words. Meanwhile, on stage behind them, a nice scene was unfolding. The American flag, attached by a set of small rings to a lattice of gray poles, was carried from stage right to the center, so it stood behind two rows of otherwise empty chairs. Then the chairs were filled, mostly with healthy-looking kids of various ages. The audience, sensing something was happening, began to perk up. The event coordinator returned to the microphone and started on another introduction. Had Romney arrived?

"This is a man who decided to swim against the tide," she was saying—perhaps a reference to Romney's Mormon missionary work?—"who puts his body where his beliefs are"—a bit more cryptic?—"who went to University of California-Los Angeles"—what?—"And, of course, that man is Duncan Hunter."

Hunter got up, talked about some of the issues at stake, thanked a few people, mentioned his son's bid for Congress, and moved back to the wings. And the local politicians started talking again. Romney showed up around 7:15 p.m.

Since you view both Duncan Hunter and Fred Thompson as virtual anti-Christs who exactly do you support?

Romney, Gulianni, Huckabee, McCain, Paul...

There’s your line-up of disgrace...They are all liberal RINOs

Duncan Hunter is a conservative, the only conservative running...

Duncan Hunter is a gentleman and he has humility and class...

if that was Romney who was offered the mic while everyone waited for one of the others, Romney wouold have refused the opportunity because Romkney is classless and full of pride...He’s not humble...

Romney is not fit to be president..he has no integrity and he is not a leader and statesman like Duncan Hunter is...

The more I hear and see of Duncan, the more I admire and respect him..him...

He has guts ....It will take guts to lead our nation the next eight years..

Duncan Hunter will make a great President of the United States..2009-2017

“Pretty sick that you are full of it up to your eyeballs, MENSA.

I showed you yesterday Hunter voted against the minimum wage increase.

Aunt B showed you last week that your boy also voted to fund the war in Bosnia, as did the majority of republicans.

And there is nothing anti-capitalist about Hunter. Considering he gets 100% from the National Federation of Independent Businesses, a 93% from the US Chamber of Commerce, 100% for American for Tax Reform, and a big fat 0% from the enviros. Not to mention a 92 lifetime rating from the ACU.

Go shill your crap in the DU, troll”

It’s too bad liars aren’t removed from civil discussion when it’s habitual and compulsive. They’re using our time, the only asset we have, so we can’t promote Hunter, they know what they’re doing. It happens with any issue on FR of any consequence especially if it steps on the toes of the globalist/cheap labor crowd.

Just like the State of California knows what they’re doing. I just got a look at the “CALIFORNIA PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY ELECTION GUIDE” for Feb. 5, 2008.

Page 7 US PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES

“For information about the candidates running for the office of United States President, please visit the Secretary of State’s website or call our toll free Voter Hotline for information to be mailed to you.”

I KID you NOT! No names, no pictures, zip. No one but an internet/political junkie will bother and THEY know it! The media is picking our president. That’s all the information people will get.

What was that old phrase about the 3 boxes....well the ballot box is of no consequence any more, might as well save the money for elections and give it to Mexico or buy ammo. This isn’t about “Duncan Hunter” any more, it’s about a lot more than any one man.

---What state has Romney won?

Wyoming.

---MI is winner-takes-all. There is no prize for being in 2nd place

Not exactly.

Michigan should have 60 delegates but the RNC cut its delegate count to 30 because it is out of compliance with the national party's Feb. 5 "cut-off" for scheduling presidential nominating contests. Under the old allocation (with 60 delegates) Michigan Republicans would have: 45 district delegates, 3 RNC delegates, 12 at-large delegates. RNC delegates are uncommitted; the district-level delegates are winner-take-all for the three delegates for each congressional district; and the at-large delegates are allocated proportionally with a 15 percentage point threshold to qualify.

So it looks like about 20 delegates will be allocated to the candidate receiving the most votes in each of the state’s 15 districts; 10 are allocated proportionally to the candidates based on the statewide vote. Three additional unpledged delegates are selected from among party leaders at a state convention Feb. 15-16.

That’s it, laugh it up, fuzzball. Enjoy that fact that your fellow Americans have been disenfranchised from participation in this election. None of us have voted, but you’ve decided we’re not even going to get the chance if you have your way.

That’s something to be proud of. Does your mother know what you do with your time?

Sorry, I should not have asked a question, because I won’t read your garbage reply.

“Romney, Gulianni, Huckabee, McCain, Paul...”

I think even Romney would be ashamed of this poster! Smells like a Paul groupie to me or the temperment of McCain or the pseudo religiousity of Huck, or the mob like behavior of Rudy.....yeah, he could be just about anybody. I’ll bet he doesn’t want the borders secured though.

If he’s on the PA ballot, I’ll be more than happy to vote for him.

I’ll try not to be too discouraging: conservatives are screwed in this presidential election and for the foreseeable future.

OK MENSA.

Another refutation.

Bill 5120 Amendment from 2002 that had across the board cuts included such ‘non essentials’ as the COUNTERTERRORISM FUND, Unite States Customs Service (that prior to being consolidated with the Dept of Homeland Security a year later, was THE method used to keep out illegals and illegal products, such as explosives), the Secret Service, the National Security Council, Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, the Air and Marine Interdiction Program, the Intraagency Law Enforcement, and the new Office of Homeland Security. Not exactly things that should have been cut following 911.

HR1. Hunter did vote for the prescription drug bill, as did 204 Republicans. 189 dems voted against it. Should he have voted for it? No, IMO. Now tell me which of your boys opposed it.

HR 4614, proposed by Bernie Sanders for alternative energy.

AMENDMENT PURPOSE:

An amendment numbered 5 printed in the Congressional Record to increase funding for renewable energy programs by $30 million, to be offset by a decrease of $30 million from the Advanced Simulation and Computing program in the Weapons Activities budget.

Failed by recorded vote: 150 - 241 (Roll no. 321).

Hunter voted NAY

You are a lying SOS

H Con Res 95. from the Substitute spending bill for 2005:

“Defense: Accepts the President’s and Budget Committee’s levels that provide for a 4.4% increase over last year”

Hunter would accept no such limitations on Defense spending in the middle of two shooting wars. Subsequently, Bush requested a 7% increase over 2004, and Hunter pushed it even higher than that, from 401.7 billion to 445 billion, not including war supplementals.

Thanks for playing, now go back to the DU, dipstick.

Ditto.
