If there's no FRed and no Hunter and we're left with the four headless RINOs, then what?

The question was posed to me last night, if the only two conservatives in the race were to drop out, leaving the hapless RINOs Giuliani, Romney, Huckabee and McCain to ward off the Evil Witch of the East then, Jim, what do we do?

Well, I think four issues that most of us conservatives will agree on that are at the top or near the top of our priority lists are National Defense, Border Security, Guns and Life should be considered. We can argue all day long on whether or not these guys are constitutionally minded, small government fiscal conservatives, and I don't believe any of them are, but we'll leave that for another day. Let's concentrate on National Defense, Border Security, Guns and Life.

Well, I can see right off that that rules out Rudy, the draft dodging, gun grabbing, sanctuary city abortionist. At least the other three claim to be pro-life, although Romney has been a pro-choice abortionist for all of his elected history until he decided to run for president. I think Romney's pro choice, big government nanny state (RomneyCare) record gives him two big black eyes and should knock him out of any further consideration. That leaves Huckabee and McCain.

Now, all four of these guys are terrible on border security even though they're all claiming now to be border hawks. McCain led the charge for amnesty and the rest fell in line like dutiful RINO troopers. Can't really make a distinction among these guys on the border issue. All fail, though I think most conservatives would rank McCain at or near the bottom.

Guns. Rudy's definitely out. McCain's out. Romney's not much better. Guess Huckabee the big duck hunter outshoots the others in this category.

Rudy fails in all categories, McCain and Romney fail on guns, and all fail on borders. So I guess Huckabee has more to offer over the others at this point as he is at least pro-life and pro-gun.

Now comes national defense. Sorry, but I can't see the draft dodging, gun grabbing, gay loving, cross-dressing, illegal alien pandering abortion activist Rudy Giuliani as a very appealing or effective guy to head up our military, even if he did make some rousing anti-terrorist speeches on 9/11. The "gays should be allowed to serve openly in the military" Romney (no military or national security experience that I know of) doesn't give me goosebumps either.

So, again, we're down to Huckabee and McCain. Now you all know that I like Huckabee as he is a likable fellow, and I hate McCain, but wait. If the whole shebang is going to be decided on which of the still standing Republican wannabes should defend America from the terrorists and the surrendering Democrats, I think I'll have to go with McCain over Huckabee. At least McCain served in the military and has a whole lot more military and national security experience while serving on various committees in the senate than does Huckabee. Huckabee has none. And I doubt Huckabee can defeat Hillary. But then, McCain probably won't either, so guess that leaves plan B. Squat down, tuck your head down between your knees and kiss your ass goodbye.

Here's praying that the only two all around consistently reliable conservatives hang in there and one of them gets the nod.

Go Hunter!! Go, FRed, GO!!

Well, Jim, my plan for now is to support Fred and to vote for him on Feb. 5th, and to hope that he gets the nomination.

Once we have a nominee, I will certainly support that nominee if it is Fred, Mitt, or Rudy.

I would have a very hard time voting for Huckabee; I think he would be the worst possible nominee because of the harm he’d do to conservatism. My overarching political worldview is that almost all politics in America and the West boils down to socialism versus freedom and the Huckster is fundamentally a socialist and a statist.

I would probably vote for McCain, though I’d be miserable doing so since he is so wrong on so much (amnesty, taxes, Gitmo, “global warming”, etc.) and he is fundamentally unstable and untrustworthy.

And Jim, respectfully, while I agree with every bit of your criticism and dislike for the gun-grabbing, cross-dressing, gay-loving, pro-abortion, pro-amnesty, adulterous crook from Gotham, I have a different view regarding how America would fare under a Giuliani presidency. I think he would likely appoint mostly good judges, and when it comes to defending the sanctity of life and our God-given right to self-defense this is what counts the most. I think he’d be good on taxes, tough on Islamists, and give our military the latitude and respect they need to do their job. I will certainly vote for him if he is the Republican nominee and my present estimation is that I would prefer him to Romney.

Me too, I am watching their campaigns now, (not NYC internal politics), interviews by Estrada, Louie Freeh, Olson, town halls, pressers, ect, and I see only his and FT campaigns as the right direction. Of course FT not even a slight question at all.

The rest of our guys are running way to left for my taste, save Romney who is a mixed bag.

(my secret hope is a brokered convention, if only for the history and excitement of it all,lol)

Well, he certainly talks the talk now, but did he walk the walk then? I can’t find anything supporting Romney enforcing immigration laws while he was governor. In fact, I see there were and are several sanctuary cities in Massachusetts. True, he made a head fake right at the end of his term, but it went nowhere. He’s also on record saying good things about McCain-Kennedy, though he denied it being amnesty. Maybe you can point out where Romney was an anti-illegal immigration crusader as governor?

Man it is a freaking sad day in our nation’s history when only two out of seven canidates on the REPUBLICAN side of this shindig need to be avoided and written out.

We’ll do the best we can do, and what I saw someone said earlier:

Hope that Fred or Duncan get the nominee, and, regardless, vote against John Fraudwards, Obamalamanutjob, and Billary

We've been discussing this situation here on FR since 11/2004. The left has been busy too. They took George Allen out. Ditto Rick Santorum. I can't think of a prominent conservative who would make a great nominee who is not in the race. Can you?

Sarah Palin? Mark Sanford? Tom McClintock? Herman Cain? J.C. Watts? Janice Rogers Brown? All would also make for some decent possible choices for V.P. on the GOP side.

It all doesn't matter. The GOP simply does not have the money or numbers to defeat the Democrats.

If you believe that, then stop posting on this forum for a moment and spend your time writing a check to the GOP.

YOUR country? We are all a part of this country and we should pray for OUR country, not just yours. I know a few soldiers that could enlighten you, but I doubt you'd listen.

No, but I'm saying he's bringing a lot to the table and it would be counter-productive to ignore or demean him.

I don't agree with some of his foreign policy views, like the fact that he doesn't recognize Islam for the evil it is and wanting to pull the rug out from under our troops. But on some of his other views, he's right. We don't need to be giving 3rd-world countries all of this foreign aid and we don't need to intervene in their affairs. Look what Bush is doing to Israel today, for crying out loud.

You don't agree with SOME of his foreign policy views? Hell, he's the sort of President that will destroy this country with his namby-pamby foreign policy vies. Oh, but you like him for his other views? Those views don't mean a tinker's dam if we do not stand strong against our enemies and support our troops. I can't even believe someone like you is on a forum such as this. Amazing.
