A delegation from the Judea and Samaria (Yesha) Rabbinic Council was blocked from ascending the Temple Mount on Tuesday morning.
Jerusalem police closed the Temple Mount to Jews, telling those who arrived that an ancient Muslim holiday was discovered to be taking place, thereby precluding entrance by Jews. They could not name the holiday when asked, however.
“It seems that the Temple Mount, Judaism’s holiest site, will be the first thing to be handed to [U.S. President George W.] Bush on a silver platter,” read a statement to the media by the Movement to Prepare the Holy Temple.
The statement called for Jews all over the world to fight the possible transfer of control of the site to the Palestinian Authority in upcoming negotiations.
"The Jewish nation must oppose in every way the abandonment of the Temple Mount and Jerusalem to foreigners. We must be faithful and act with self-sacrifice against the initiatives of our enemies, both without and within.”
I would hope that Bush would not stoop to this.
I find it outrageous that these Muslims, who have no real claim to this site, can block religious Jews from accessing such a historical and sacred place. Shame on the weak Israeli government for allowing this to happen.
Sigh... I would like to read more about this. It was blocked to the Rabbis but not ordinary citizens? Either way, this is not cool.

With stories like this, who needs satire? Nevertheless, this is a strange excuse. So odd, that it reminds me of the old jokes that Arafat would die on a Jewish holiday. What Jewish holiday? Whatever day Arafat died would be a Jewish holiday...

They close the temple mount to jews all the time. It is high time the Israel took control of Jerusalem and all of Israel, evict all arabs/palestians and give the whole world the middle finger.

Unfortunately, it's the Israeli government under Olmert who are doing it. I have no sympathy for what Bush and Condi are up to, but Olmert is inviting them to do it. And he's responsible for the orders to these guards.

God gave Jerusalem to the Jews for their captitol. King David paid Arrunah the Jebusite for the land. To close it to the people of the Book is an affront to 1,000’s of years of Hebrew history.

The Mount should have been stripped from the Moslem occupiers as a consequence of the Six Day War, when the Jordanian thugs were kicked out of eastern Israel. It wasn't. All the PMs since that time have let the waqf run the Mount. Blaming Olmert (or President Bush) for what has gone on there since the Moslem conquest of Jerusalem is disingenuous at best.
