Jack Kemp Endorses McCain (thought Kemp was a conservative)

Monday, January 7, 2008 8:01 AM

U.S. Senator John McCain's presidential campaign today announced that Jack Kemp has endorsed John McCain for president.

"I am proud to support John McCain for president," said Jack Kemp. "John McCain is the only candidate who can be trusted to cut taxes, eliminate wasteful spending and enact conservative pro-growth policies to expand the economy. John McCain is the best choice to lead America to a more prosperous and secure future."

John McCain thanked Mr. Kemp for his support, stating, "I appreciate the support of my friend Jack Kemp. As an architect of the Reagan tax cuts and champion of pro-growth policies, I value Jack's advice and counsel."

Jack Kemp served as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under President George H.W. Bush and as a member of Congress from New York for 18 years. A strong proponent of supply side economics, Mr. Kemp co-authored the 1981 Reagan tax cuts and later co-founded Empower America, a free-market think tank. He serves as a nationally syndicated columnist on economic and foreign policy issues.

WOW!!! I didn't know Mccain was for tax cuts. The last time I read he voted with Ted Kennedy.

"I am proud to support John McCain for president," said Jack Kemp.

this is even more disappointing than his performance in the Kemp/Gore vp debate back in 1996...

Well, there you go. We have our candidate.

Kemp is so 1996. He was pathetic in his debate with Al Gore. Whe Al Gore was calling the GOP a bunch of racists, and was making an exception for Jack Kemp, Kemp stood there like a goofus and thanked Gore. What an idiot instead of defending the party of Lincoln.

Kemp is an open borders doofus like McInsane.

Jack Kemp was a great quarterback. Should have stayed in sports.

If I had to bet money today, my cash would be on McCain to win the nomination and the presidency.

As VP McCain would not go with Kemp but with Huckabee.

An endorsement from Kemp is like an NFL coach getting the “vote of confidence” from the team owner - the kiss of death.

Was Jack Kemp tackled one too many times? Is he the Mohammed Ali of the Conservative movement?

On Fox's Republican forum the other night, I think I heard McCain play the war hero card about five times too many. I've known some combat war heros in my time, and generally they don't even refer to their veteran status. McCain gets tied up for his country and he writes his own guitar-ballads about it.

See that road apple over there. It’s really a bowl of strawberries. In fact it’s the best looking bowl of strawberries I’ve seen all year. Folks, I hope all of you drop the cherry pie and have some of these strawberries instead. I’m an expert on strawberries and this is a great bowl of them. Take my word for it. Honest.

That’s my view of Kemp selling McCain as a bonified conservative Presidential candidate.

Steve Brown says something to the effect of “if you live long enough you all your heroes let you down”

*sigh*

Anyone check Jack for Alzheimer’s?

"John McCain is the only candidate who can be trusted to cut taxes"

Huh?! I thought McCain was asked about his vote against the Bush tax cuts and said that he'd do it again if he had the chance. What kind of tax-cutting supply-sider is that?

Kemp, yawn. Another left of center Republican endorsing one of their own.

Republicans (Phyliss Schafley) warned Kemp when he seriously desired to run for Prez that he had a "woman problelm" that they couldn't get beyond.

Well, except for the fact that a “bumb knee” kept him out of Vietnam but not out of the huddle, this is good news.
