“I think that Jason Lewis was thinking that the party apparatchik would over power the state parties and change the rules for a one day primary.”
Well, every state legislature would have to pass a law to change their date. I don’t think Iowa and New Hampshire would ever change their date. They have had these dates for a very long time and they’re not going to give up these historic dates when they can be the first and second states to do this. Our Texas date is so far from these states and even the big February date that the final presidential candidates of the two parties are already chosen before we vote. That is why the legislature tried to change it to the Super Tuesday February date but couldn’t get the bill passed so we are still the pig tail primary. I sure hope you other states give us (Texas) a good final candidate.
Are you sure, I thought that Iowa moved their date forward this year?
I live in WA state, we don’t have any say in the choice, either. That’s why I am so angry with the choice of Huckabee by the Iowa voters and plan to protest the system to the national party.
Huckabee and his supporters are like a fifth column, running within the party. They have no political ideology in common with Republicans, and if it weren’t for the fact of the early caucus Huckabee would be on the level of Ron Paul.
Thanks for the info, Marcella. I wonder why the legislature couldn’t pass that? Texas has a large number of delegates and should be part of Super Tuesday.
However, as another poster was pointing out, this is a primary season of mathematics over momentum, and a clear winner may not emerge from the Super.
TN changed ours to Super Tuesday, Feb 5....
We used to be way after Super Tuesday...
