CASPER, Wyo. Mitt Romney grabbed the early lead in Wyomings Republican caucuses Saturday as the state had its brief moment in the political spotlight sandwiched between attention-getting contests in Iowa and New Hampshire.
The former Massachusetts governor gained the first four delegates while California Rep. Duncan Hunter won a fifth.
Romney easily led the overall vote with more than 50 percent. Hunter was second with 21 percent and Fred Thompson, who hadnt won any delegates, was third with 17 percent. Results were expected throughout the day.

How does this work? How many delegates are to be had?

I believe only 12 are up for grabs, and 12 alternates. Wyoming was punished for moving up their primary date.

Wyoming was punished for moving up their primary date. Do their delegates count or not?

The Republicans of Wyoming seem to be real conservatives unlike those of New Hampshire or Iowa.

The article says 12 are at stake. More than the delagates at stake (which the RNC slashed from 28 because Wyoming moved it’s caucus to an early date) is getting the momentum/attention from winning the event.

12 if the GOP party refuses to seat half of their delegates.
24 if they do.
Zero if the remaining 12 walk out.

Mitt has a built in advantage with the LDS vote there, like Huck had an advantage in Iowa because it has enough Evangelical voters that in a crowded field they can push their candidate over the top.

Good to hear Hunter is 2d in WYO. Ahead of McCain, Rudy.
Wonder if WYO has a large Mormon population, and is that helping Romney

You can read anything into this at all. The three candidates getting votes are the only ones who campaigned there.

Wonder if WYO has a large Mormon population, and is that helping Romney They're in close proximity to Utah, so that's helping Mitt.

That should have read cannot read anything into this at all.

They probably do. Idaho does.
