A Hard Loss for Romney (He's all but doomed now)

A Hard Loss for Romney By John Ellis

It's one thing to lose as you are. What you lose is an election, but there's always another election and in the case of presidential primary politics, a new electorate that awaits you in the next state. It's another thing to lose as you aren't. Mitt Romney was never the 700 Club right-winger his campaign managers conceived. He was and is a man of business and a very capable one at that.

He's all but doomed now. Senator John McCain will beat him in New Hampshire, probably by a lot, and Romney's media coverage will evaporate and his candidacy will consequently die. On January 9, his managers will walk in and say that the campaign needs $10 million or $15 million to continue and that he, Romney, will have to write the check. Everyone who would contribute has maxed out. Everyone who might won't. Two-time losers don't get new money. It's a basic rule of politics.

You’ve heard the old Groucho Marx phrase, “I would never become a member of a club that would allow someone like me to become a member.”

Well, I could never choose, for president, a man who was able to legitimately be elected governor of Mass.

when he claimed ALL Christian denominations and the Catholic Church are apostates?

Are you telling me you don’t believe the Catholic Church is apostate?
I assume you are Protestant. If you believe they are not, how come you are not a member of the Catholic Church?

McCain is very personable and certainly capable in a number of areas, but why would your description not fit him as well?

“And if you think it’s stupid to oppose Mormonism” Typical of the Mormon-bashers to twist words ... you are not opposing Mormonism. Mormonism isn’t on the ballot is not the issue and voting for Romney wont advance that theology or sect. A man who adheres to that sect is. That man shares our Judeo-Christian values.

Voting based on abject prejudice against a religion like that is an abuse of your power to vote. You’ll allow Mormons to sign up and fight and die for our country but won’t let them serve in high office?
That’s just sad, and frankly as a fellow Christian I don’t see a lick of Christianity in that behavior. Guess you were sleeping during the lesson about the good Samaritan.

Can McCain attract $$$$ and does he have organization on the ground? Can’t Thompson attract more $$$$ but how can he develop organization and foot soldiers outside of Tennessee? Through old Senate pals?

Since my answering your tarbaby question will not in any way address the heretical claims of your peepstone prophet, I’ll save you the effort to spittle off into diversions. Have a nice day

No, the fact that Romney hasn't distanced himself from such comments is "sick."

NO, what is sick and demented is the damage you are doing to cosnervative ideals and Republican unity with your divisive and hateful Jihad against the LDS. It's not relevent to the 2008 race and its unChristian bashing. Leave them alone.

What you say may be true but why would that mean they would vote dem?

Depends on who the dem candidate is. They might vote for someone in a third party. They may do a write in. They may not vote. I for one would not vote for Huckabee NO MATTER WHAT.

If McCain wins and Thompson comes in 5th as expected in NH,
then, no, Thompson wont get the money, McCain will. McCain will then win.

Which RINO do you want to win, the McCain version or the Huckabee version? that why I say ...

Iowa gave us a CLUSTERHUCK.

“Romney has flip-flopped on virtually ever issue over the past five years.”
That exaggeration misses it by a mile. Romney changed on abortion, but on economic, fiscal, law and order, foreign policy, ie, jsut about everything else, he was and he is mainstream Republican.

Romney has been more consistently conservative than Huckabee, than McCain, than Guiliani... the rest of the field frankly, with the exception now of Thompson and Hunter.

The character of Mitt Romney is of higher calibre than Guiliani, Huckabee and McCain as well.

So you take Romney to task over issues where he is by far better than the other RINOs in the race.

And what’s worse is that Romney is running on conservative agenda - Guiliani, Huckabee and McCain are not. All three are deliberately deviating from conservative orthodoxy.

"... the LDS. It's not relevent to the 2008 race and its unChristian bashing. Leave them alone."

Do you expect this whine to work with the dnc goons and meida sycophancy should Romney somehow get the nomination? Or are you--as has been mistakenly revealed at FR by the Romney platoon shouting bigotry--just counting on Christian Conservatives voting for a Mormon because of the alternative? You Mittiac agitprops are so transparent after all these weeks of your efforts.

As for Romney, I’m not all that concerned with what someone’s ancestor said, especially since the descendent is going out of his way to be inoffensive.

See post #240...not just a "past tense" issue.

My problem with Huckabee is that he’s too liberal and offensive. One I can maybe get over in the general election, albeit with a large clothespin on my nose. But there’s no clothespin big enough to get me to vote for Huckabee.

If Romney could get 19% of the IA Evangelical vote despite being so liberal and offensive by believing we are apostates, then I believe Huck could get at least 19% of Catholic Republicans + a good chunk of pro-life Catholic Democrats who wouldn't vote pro-abortion in the general election. (And I say "at least" 19% because there's other Catholic Republicans who would vote on a pro-life, pro-marriage basis).

Keep telling yourself that Huckabee can win Catholics if it makes you feel better. But he can’t and he won’t.

I haven't said anything about winning & losing...only a warning not to make assumptions.

BTW, anything you say about Huck potential probs with the Catholic vote isn't going to be peculiar to him among Republicans. In 2006, Republicans lost a number of Catholic voters, anyway.

So you Mittiacs want folks to not realize that massive increases in fees the state controls are not equivalent to tax increases. Nice, simply typical of the Romney deceits.

Romney will drop out. He’s in it for the long haul. Super Tuesday is what he’s waiting for. Yes, McCain will beat him in NH and Romney will place probably #2.
