Rudy Giuliani: 2008's toughest Republican
Human Events Online ^ | 12/27/2007 | Deroy Murdock

A jet passenger remembers seeing Rudolph W. Giuliani on a Dallas-to-New York flight. Heading home after a March 2005 speech, Giuliani perused a volume of Elizabethan literature.

Miles above Pennsylvania, a door-seal suddenly cracked. As the cabin depressurized, the pilot nose-dived from 38,000 feet to a safer 9,000. Oxygen masks swung above the heads of horrified travelers.

What did Giuliani do? As another, visibly rattled traveler recalled: "He put his mask over his face, picked the book back up, and kept reading Shakespeare." ...

Me too. With all his faults, I believe Rudi would make the best CIC during very perilous times, To me, national preservation trumps the need ideological purity. Fighting radical Islam and its domestic apologists and opportunists (liberal Democrats) requires a strong President. McCain comes in second. Then Thompson, followed by Romney. Any of the GOP candidates would be better than any of the Democrats. Sitting out this election because the nominee—any GOP nominee—is not perfect will result in a perfect victory for liberals.

Yeah, a tough guy with a lisp who has a penchant for nylons.

Has America really become *that* metrosexual when a guy like Rudy is portrayed as a "tough guy"?

Did he release the recent medical test results he promised after Christmas?

Deroy has been shilling for Rudy for two years.

I'm sorry, but a creampuff from Lawn Guyland should be handling divorce cases, not running for president. Getting cops to DO THEIR JOB and arresting squeegee men is common sense, no matter what New Yorkers think.

Besides, Rudy's Podhoretzian insistence on "spreading democracy in the mideast" should have died with the Scoop Jackson Democrats on West End Avenue that are his mentors.

You are of course correct about its vs. it's.
And yes we are a tough crowd. After all this is FR. *grin* I actually admire quite a few things about Rudy. I think he'd probably make a pretty good commander-in-chief. Unfortunately he strikes out on two fronts for me. First as a conservative he social liberalism makes me wanna puke. As a Catholic his dissent brings scandal to the Church. I really wish he would just leave the Church and go become a Methodist or something like that where his views are more in line with that denomination's beliefs.

I was asleep on my couch on a Friday night about 15 years ago. My wife woke me up, screaming that my 3 year old son was choking on a grape that was stuck in his windpipe.

I got up, did a nice, easy Heimlich maneuver on him, and the grape popped out. I then proceeded to return to the couch and resume my nap (after making sure my son was breathing normally, of course).

Instead of a congratulatory remark, my wife was angry at me for reacting as calmly as I did. To this day, I haven't figured out her reaction.

Does this qualify me as a "tough Republican"?

I posted this in another thread, but it seems to belong here, too.

Ah, I love you anti-Rudy fellas.

Anything to do with the guy...

1) Make fun of his name.
2) Insert obligatory transvestite joke.
3) Call anyone who doesn’t think he’s the anti-Christ a moron.

I’m not a Rudy supporter, but I almost hope he gets the nomination just to see how you people react.

I can tell you how I'll react right now. I'll head for the most viable conservative third party candidate.

Rudy is a liberal. I don't vote for liberals.

LOL - Cute legs thought! :)

If he is the TOUGHEST, then I can see who will be the TOUGHEST 'soldiers' in the future army!... Which we all know is coming... That is the big enchillada for the Fags...

Can you picture the army participating in the Fags-'pride'- parade with our TOUGHEST soldiers?

Stuff like that would keep me grounded for a while, and probably cause me to cringe every time I hear any aircraft overhead.

My biggest complain about Rudy’s campaign is that so many “Republicans” still think he’s a liberal. This is a completely inaccurate characterization, and he should have better used his time in the primary to fix perceptions.

For example, on abortion: he supports the Mexico City policy. He supports the Hyde amendment. He opposes partial birth abortion. He wants to decrease abortions. He wants to appoint judges that will repeal Roe v. Wade. The idea that this is the liberal position is silly. I could go on like this for gays and guns.

You could, but you'd only be further stretching the truth. I live in NJ. I got to watch Rudy's tenure in NYC up close and personal. He's most definitely a liberal. And he's taken money from NARAL, the National Abortion Rights Action League. You only get $$ from them if you're 100% pro-abortion.

Unlike Flip Romney, Rudy didn't play the card you laid out above because he knows it's a waste of time. We're not stupid.

I would love the election to come down to:
1)Rudy Guiliani
2)Barack Obama and
3)Mike Bloomberg. I would love to see who some of these people would vote for. Heads would explode here.

If he is the GOP nominee, I would have no problem voting for Rudy.

Portraying Rudy as “tough” doesn’t do a thing to change the fact that the man publicly cheated on his wife, had taxpayers foot the bill to “protect” his mistress, has trusted and partnered with some “ethically challenged” people, and has views on abortion, guns and gays that most socially conservative people cannot stomach.

Not to mention that he has NO foreign policy experience. I know a lot of tough people - but none of them would make a good President - you need a lot more than that. If his wives and children can’t depend on him - I know I sure as heck can’t.

One more thing:

Mitt and Huck would easily lose to Hillary. McCain, who has disappointed conservatives with his Gang of 14 deal, campaign-finance reform, amnesty for illegals, and opposition to the bush tax cuts, would likely lose as well because of the lack of enthusiasm in the GOP.

You may not like Rudy, but he has the best chance to win in the general. If we don’t make the right choice in the primaries, the November 2008 election will be over in February.

Rudy has TOO MUCH baggage. His only positive is all the press he received for being Mayor 9/11 (ie giving some great speeches in front of some burning buildings).

He is just another greasy urban politician who will lose Ohio and thus the presidency. There is not a chance in hell that he will win here in New Jersey, let alone New York, so the ideal that Giussolini will pick up blue states is bunk.

Remember, you do not win by saying "I am not the other guy/gal."

Rudy's Podhoretzian insistence on "spreading democracy in the mideast" should have died with the Scoop Jackson Democrats on West End Avenue that are his mentors.

N-i-c-e take, Clem.

The Podhertz-Krystal bunch, are hopped-up cheerleaders for the US' most disastrous policy initiatives including the Iraq debacle and the amnesty atrocity.

This half-baked bunch of power-mad elitists don't have a clue about democracy----they are bent on taking over the US government via religious cleansing of the Repub party by kicking so/cons to the curb.

Pakistan is yet another in a string of Mideast policy failures thanks to Rooty's handlers---and their irrational quest for Mideast (gag) democracy.

The "zany, fun-loving" neopukes got Bush to sink zillions of US tax dollars into Pakistan (as a pillar of US Mideast foreign policy). Bhutto's return to "share power" in this Mideast "bastion of democracy" would make "people throw roses at her feet."

Yeah, sure. We're still waiting for Iraquis to throw roses at the feet of US troops for "liberating" them into democracy.....and it only cost a couple trillion in US treasure and thousands upon thousands of young lives.
