This is very bad.

Brave lady RIP.

This should move things around in our own political race. Foreign policy and the WOT just shot to the top of the conversation.

“They’re losing in Iraq and Afghanistan, so open a new front. I also think folks ought to keep a weather eye out here. My spidey sense is pinging hard...”

We are in agreement FRiend. But they have not given up in Afghanistan but merely brought the tactics used from Iraq. That means staying power.

And there will be more behind this. This is a great propaganda moment for AQ to show that home base is still home and they are on the move.

The President will no doubt place our people on alert here. He would be crazy not to. Europe also should be on alert. AQ already has followed up their recent savage bombing in Algeria with this.

They most likely have other ideas to activate as well.

Compare Hillary’s comments with those of Romney, Rudy and McCain.

She has NO idea what to think, what to say about the global ramifications of this. All she can do is talk about herself. So much for that “experience”.

She most certainly DID make it a stump speech! That freaking ghoul, wallowing in the blood of Bhutto, smearing it on herself—she reminds me of the Wellstone funeral—such a disgusting display!

Yes, BB will be eulogized forever as a supporter of democracy, but she was a leftist and cronyist, very similar to members of a certain party in the US.

Ouch, McCain just basically threw Sharif under the bus. Said he is not the person to take bhutto’s place as opposition leader.

Guess you missed the part where he said he didn't think Mushariff is behind this because he doesn't benefit from any of this and it would cause him even more problems

The anger in Pakistan will be the direct result of the refusal to provide her protection from the government even though hundreds died in the short time she had returned. AQ/the Taliban have made it clear they were behind multiple attacks to kill her.

My understanding is that there were hundreds of heavily armed police at the rally with metal detectors, etc.

You are right on point with the rest of your commentary. Too bad so many Americans are so poorly informed. This is very very bad. I seriously doubt Musharraf is behind this, it's a lose lose for him, and not just for him, but for the whole country.

“Tense times, eh?”

Maybe desperate may be more like it. Just a few months ago I was arguing with some Americans of Indian background in a pub. They were mouthing the typical anti-American third worldism they inherited from their parents.

I said that the US was trying to work with Bhutto to return/work with the Pakistani government. They insisted that was not true. As one guy was leaving he said that was propaganda. I said we shall see.

Not only did it turn out to be true, there was good reason behind it. I said it was a desperate situation.

And now it is just that.

Bhutto was safer under house arrest with Musharef keeping the people under strict marshal law.

MUsharref and SHARIF are different people. MUsharraf got McCain’s support, Sharif did not — Sharif is in line to take over the opposition mantle from Bhutto, and he is much more supportive of the radical islamists.
