Al Qaeda has a 48% favorability rating, so they go ahead and kill Bhuto and the fanatics blame Musharaf.

Thank God AQ is as dumb as ever. I just read that they claimed responsibility for getting rid of an American asset (BB).

By doing this, they absolved Musharraf from any responsibility instead of leaving it to BB's follwers to topple him.

Dumb they are, we're quite lucky that way.

Agreed, I almost wonder if this is a precursor to an “Al-Queda counter-offensive”. They’re losing in Iraq and Afghanistan, so open a new front. I also think folks ought to keep a weather eye out here. My spidey sense is pinging hard...

Sharif is much more openly sympathetic to radical Islam. In addition, there was an “attack” at one of his rallies yesterday, which didn’t injure him and which he immediately blamed on Musharraf. I think he’s in league with AQ and this is part of a concerted effort to overthrow Musharraf.

Whether people in his government made it easier for the assassination to happen or not, General Musharraf is now in a very tight spot, IMHO. Unless he acts decisively and convincingly, he’ll look like the guy who had the most to gain from Bhutto’s death.

As someone said in an earlier comment, this is a win-win situation for extremists, who weaken the government and decapitate the only viable alternative there ever was in one fell swoop.

Mrs. Clinton is giving a Bhutto eulogy.

“Sympathy and condolences”.....This has caught her off script.

Can someone please provide me with a “Pakastine-101 for dummies”?

About all I know is:
1. Musharraf is an ally of the US in terms of fighting extremests and maintaining security over nuclear assets
2. Al Qaida blows up everyone there, regardless of political party.
3. Bhutto was the opposition party leader about to run against Musharraf.
4. Lots of brainwashing madrassas in Pakistan

who the hell is on who’s side over there??

My prayers- and those of many others go to your country today. It’s difficult not to speculate and wonder at this and the ramifications it will have .. Be safe.

Thanks, but I'm not in Pakistan, just quoting from http://pakistanidefenceforum.com//index.php?showtopic=72245&st=240

And while everyone else makes a statement of condolence and talks about the National Security issues involved - Hillary turns it into a campaign stump speech.

OMG...she is a frightning woman. Listening to her in the midst of all this- she cannot help but capitalize on Bhutto’s assassination...she is clearly and openly using this as the reason why she must be elected.
