Opposition leader Benazir Bhutto has been critically injured after a suspected suicide attack at a political rally in Pakistan.
It was believed to be a suicide attackShe is undergoing emergency surgery at a nearby hospital, Sky News sources say.
The explosion went off just after Ms Bhutto left the rally in Rawalpindi, minutes after her speech to thousands of people.
Yup. She’s dead.
sure, he has the most to gain

Freepers, if you happen to be in Pakistan...get out if you don't have to be there. Otherwise...get to the embassy. I don't think this is going to end well.
Musharraf was told on numerous occasions that he is essentially responsible for her safety. He knew that if anything happened to her, his power would be in serious jeopardy. This stinks of Al Qaeda.
There was also an attack at the rally of another candidate, Sharif, today (he was uninjured). He immediately blamed Musharraf. Personally, I think it’s more likely that the whole thing was engineered to point to Musharraf in order to stir up the people against him, since while he may not be great, he is the only bulwark against AQ.
What’s with so many FReepers ready to blame Mushariff?
Seems like AQ terrorists, to this poster.
I wonder if “shot in the neck” means she was sitting up in the car. You would think she would be on the floor. That is what the SS does to targets.
That makes me wonder if a bodyguard did it.
Totally agree with you
Well- there was a power struggle between Mushariff and Bhutto. She was going to run against him in the upcoming elections in January..
All the more reason to support a Presidential candidate that will aggressively pursue terrorists.
I’ve been amazed at how accessible she has always seemed in video clips these past few months. Even today, she was standing up waving through the sun roof.
I don’t think Musharraf would, because ultimately, it would undermine what support he has. I wouldn’t be surprised if dissidents in the army (that is, the AQ sympathizers who he has been tyring to purge) were involved, though.
Could be anyone. You’re right - it’s does seem like a terrorist attack but the coordination with the gunmen seems to add another twist.
People should understand that Musharraf, no matter how you feel about him, has to declare martial law, control the contry as a vicious dictatator and go after the AQ/Taliban terrorists.
If this doesn’t happen, AQ/Taliban will end with the bomb!
“Whats with so many FReepers ready to blame Mushariff?”
He seems to be a fair weather friend IMO. As long as we are sending money and he pretends to help find Osama & fight Al-Queda, everything is just peachy.
It would make sense if AQ had place people in her security outfit. They are always looking for targets of opportunity, and probably have several contingency plans going at any given time, especially on their home turf.
NY Post reporting Bhutto killed.
