Comeback of the season could belong to McCain

For those who believe in miracles, there is the legitimate possibility that John McCain could win the Republican presidential nomination. If so, he’ll make Bill Clinton’s comeback kid of 1992 look like a piker.

Of course, the Republican senator from Arizona needs a series of events to break his way, but things are moving in that direction.

Remember, McCain entered the 2008 presidential race at the head of the pack.

But there was significant resistance to him in the grass roots, his early campaign was poorly managed and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani zoomed past in the polls while political insiders were declaring McCain’s candidacy as good as dead.

In addition, he was tarred with being the presidential field’s perhaps biggest supporter of an unpopular war in Iraq, and then upset GOP conservatives on immigration.

By last summer, McCain’s campaign was broke, amid predictions of his withdrawal from the race. But was able to raise enough money to keep going, and the tide began to turn his way.

My point exactly! Our new Bob Dole. I will not vote for McCain. As far as I’m concerned he is a no good traitor. End of discussion.

Right, got that, veterans such as Dole and McCain, who bore the brunt of battle, are traitors...

It was less than two weeks ago that the polls were supposedly showing Romney “surging” in Iowa. Whatever happened to that? Iowa, being a caucus state, is hard to predict but I don’t thing McCain will win there. He may be moving up in New Hamsphire right now, but Mitt just had a horrible week. I look for McCain to run second or third in New Hampshire, with his campaign running out of money shortly thereafter.

McCain is the next guy in line and that is who the RNC Establishment always chooses.

The Republican Establishment doesn't choose anyone. The voters do.

And as a matter of fact, the leader in the polls during the summer before the primaries start is always the winner.

And that would be Giuliani.

History will have to be made to reverse that streak.

Remember, McCain entered the 2008 presidential race at the head of the pack.

If he entered the race first, then he was ahead of the pack. If not, then no, I don’t remember him actually being ahead of anyone with a pulse (and I’m pretty sure he still behind a few people who have passed into the state of eternally voting “D”.)

Thank you for your service to your country Sen McCain. I would have thanked you more if it had ended about 10 years ago.

Anyone was free to file campaign papers, and the RNC doesn’t give assistance to candidates during the primaries.

So while the conventional wisdom said it was Bob Dole’s turn, it was only that. No candidate was chosen in a smoky back room.

I am no fan of McCain but he will come in no lower than third in Iowa.

That will be viewed as a victory and he will do very well in NH and SC.

Not if Rush speaks up and backs Thompson.

I do not want 96' all over again. The Blue Hairs gave us Dole, we could have had Forbes.....

If he finishes third in Iowa, Fred Thompson is in deep doo doo.

McCain will do well in NH, I think, and he might even beat Romney.

South Carolina is a puzzle to me. I don’t have a good appreciation for who the electorate is, and how easily they are influenced. Geogrpahically, I’d think it would be a good state for Thompson, but if he’s on the ropes after New Hampshire, I really don’t have a guess.

I figured he was finished months ago.

But he's prospered because he's the only adult in the race.

The others all seemed to be children or adolescents involved in one food fight or another.

Okay, I know, Fred Thompson.

Fred's half a dozen years younger than McCain, but he seems to have arrived in old age before him.

Duncan Hunter? Which one is he again?

Number one we have to stick with our convictions when voting.

If Hillary and McCain are the main choices we don’t have to support them.

If Hillary or McCain get in because the mainstream media is pushing them, then what we have to do is fight like we did during the Amnesty battle this summer. Become involved.

We didn’t have the Republican house to stop Amnesty.

But, we must support who we believe in. Voting for Hillary or McCain is what the mainstream media and elites want us to do. Either choice is not our choice. We must support who we believe in no matter what!

***Hillary?***

I think I agree with your first two states.

I don’t know about SC.

If Fred only finishes third there, and your other picks are correct, I think he’s done.

I guess the good thing is that we won’t have to speculate about this for too much longer.
